Two South Korean food companies, Orion and Pulmuone, are expected to surpass 3 trillion won ($2.09 billion) in sales for last year on the back of the growing popularity of Korean cuisine and snacks, industry data showed Sunday.
한국의 두 식품 회사인 오리온과 풀무원이 한국 요리와 스낵의 인기에 힘입어 지난해 매출 3조원(20억 9천만달러)을 돌파할 것으로 예상된다고 업계 데이터가 일요일 밝혔다.
 
Orion, a major confectionary company best known for its iconic Choco Pie, is forecast to achieve sales that rose 6.6 percent year-on-year to 3.1 trillion won and operating profit that advanced 11 percent to 546.3 billion won in 2024, according to earnings data compiled by Yonhap Infomax.
연합인포맥스가 집계한 실적 자료에 따르면, 상징적인 초코파이로 잘 알려진 대형 제과업체 오리온은 2024년 매출이 전년 대비 6.6% 증가한 3조 1,000억 원, 영업이익이 11% 증가한 5,463억 원을 달성할 것으로 예상된다.
 
Orion attributed the sales growth to rising demand from China, Vietnam and Russia.
오리온은 매출성장의 원인으로 중국, 베트남, 러시아의 수요증가를 꼽았다.
 
Pulmuone, renowned for plant-based food, such as tofu and soybean sprouts, is also expected to see a 6.5 percent increase in sales, reaching 3.19 trillion won, with an operating profit of 83 billion won.
두부와 콩나물 등 식물성 식품으로 유명한 풀무원도 매출이 6.5% 증가하여 3조 1,900억 원에 달할 것으로 예상되며, 영업이익은 830억 원에 이를 것으로 예상된다.
 
The company credited strong sales of tofu in the United States for the growth.
이 회사는 미국 내 두부 판매 호조를 성장의 원동력으로 꼽았다.
 
Including Orion and Pulmuone, a total of 11 South Korean food and beverage companies are projected to report annual sales exceeding 3 trillion won in 2024.
오리온과 풀무원을 포함하여, 총 11개의 한국 식음료 회사들이 2024년에 연간 매출 3조 원을 초과할 것으로 예상된다.
 
CJ Cheiljedang, the No. 1 food company in South Korea, is expected to log 29.3 trillion won in sales and 1.56 trillion won in operating profit last year, maintaining its dominant industry leadership.
국내 1위 식품기업인 CJ제일제당은 지난해 매출 29조 3천억원, 영업이익 1조 5천 6백억원을 기록하며 업계 지배력을 유지할 것으로 예상된다.
 
Other major players included Dongwon F&B and Daesang with an estimated 4.45 trillion won and 4.22 trillion won in sales, respectively.
다른 주요 업체로는 동원 F&B와 대상이 각각 약 4조 4,500억원과 4조 2,200억 원의 매출을 기록했다.
 
Lotte Wellfood is expected to have posted 4.07 trillion won in sales, and Lotte Chilsung Beverage Co. is forecast to mark 4.04 trillion won.
롯데웰푸드는 4조 7천억원의 매출을 기록할 것으로 예상되며, 롯데칠성음료는 4조 4천억원을 기록할 것으로 예상된다.
Nongshim, SPC Samlip, Ottogi and CJ Freshway are each projected to report sales of around 3.5 trillion won. (Yonhap)
