The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea (CBCK) released guidelines to help the Church carry out its pro-life activities effectively.
The bishops’ conference posted the Guideline for Pro-Life Movement on its website, stressing that “There must not be any discrimination in respecting life. Human life must be respected from fertilization to natural death.”
The bishops say it is contradictory to approve abortion or allow research using human embryo while crying for anti-war or death penalty abolishment.
Father Casimir Song Yul-sup, secretary of CBCK’s Pro-Life Activities said the guideline will serve as a “base and compass” for pro-life activities carried out by Korean Church. It also asks each parish and diocese to establish a committee for the matter.
The Korean guidelines was derived from the precedent one in the United States – Pastoral Plans for Pro-Life Activities: A Campaign in Support of Life.
It addresses current issues about life and provides its relevance to Church teachings on artificial contraception and natural birth control, abortion, external fertilization, stem cell, suicide, euthanasia, death punishment, brain death and organ donation.
