그러면 그 새 진리(眞理)는 어떠한 사명을 다해야 할 것인가? 이 진리는 위에서 이미 논술한 바, 종교가 찾아 나온 내적 진리와 과학이 찾아 나온 외적 진리를 통일된 하나의 과제로서 해결해 줄 수 있는 것이기 때문에, 모든 인간들을 내외 양면의 무지(無知)에서 내외 양면의 지(知)에로 완전히 극복할 수 있게 하여야 한다.

그리하여 타락인간으로 하여금 사심(邪心)이 지향하는 그 악의 길을 막고 본심이 추구하는 바를 따라 선의 목적을 이루게 함으로써, 선악(善惡) 양면의 지향성을 가지고 있는 인간의 모순성과 위에서 이미 논한 바 종교인들이 당면하고 있는 도(道)의 생활의 모순성을 극복하게 할 수 있어야 한다. 

타락인간에 있어 앎은 생명의 빛이요 또한 소생의 힘이 된다. 그리고 무지는 사망의 그늘이요 또한 파멸의 요소인 것이다. 무지에서는 어떠한 정서(情緖)도 일어날 수 없으며, 무지와 무정서(無情緖)에서는 어떠한 의지(意志)도 생길 수 없다.

이렇듯 인간에게 있어 지(知) 정(情) 의(義)가 제구실을 못 하게 될 때에는, 거기에 인간다운 인간의 생활이 있을 수 없는 것이다. 인간이 근본적으로 하나님을 떠나 가지고는 살 수 없도록 지어졌다면, 하나님에 대한 무지야말로 우리 인생을 얼마나 비참한 길로 몰아내고 있는 것인가? 그러나 하나님의 실재성(實在性)에 대하여는 성서를 보아도 명확히 알 도리가 없다. 하물며 하나님의 심정(心情)에 대해서랴.

그러므로 이 새 진리는 하나님의 실재성에 관하여는 말할 것도 없고, 하나님의 창조의 심정을 비롯하여, 하나님이 자신을 반역하는 타락인간을 버리지 못하시고 유구(悠久)한 역사의 기간을 두고 구원(救援)하시려고 애써 오신 애달픈 심정을 우리에게 알려 줄 수 있어야 한다.

それでは、その新しい真理は、いかなる使命を果たさなければならないのであろうか。この真理はまず、既に論じたように、宗教が探し求めてきた内的真理と科学が探し求めてきた外的真理とを、統一された一つの課題として解決し、それによってすべての人々が、内外両面の無知を完全に克服し、内外両面の知に至ることができるようなものでなければならない。

また、堕落人間をして、邪心が指向する悪への道を遮り、本心の追求する善の目的を成就せしめることによって、善悪両面への指向性をもっている人間の矛盾性と、前述のような、宗教人たちが当面している修道の生活の矛盾性とを、克服できるようなものでなければならない。

堕落人間にとって、「知ること」は命の光であり、また蘇生のための力でもある。そして、無知は死の影であり、また破滅の要素ともなるのである。無知からはいかなる情緒をも生じ得ない。また、無知と無情緒からはいかなる意志も生ずることはできないのである。人間において、知情意がその役割を果たすことができなくなれば、そこから人間らしい、人間の生活が開かれるはずはない。

人間が、根本的に、神を離れては生きられないようにつくられているとすれば、神に対する無知は、人生をどれだけ悲惨な道に追いやることになるであろうか。しかし、神の実在性に対しては、聖書をいかに詳しく読んでみても、明確に知る由がない。ましてや神の心情についてはなおさらである。

それゆえ、この新しい真理は、神の実在性に関することはいうまでもなく、神の創造の心情をはじめとして、神が御自身に対して反逆する堕落人間を見捨てることができず、悠久なる歴史の期間を通して彼らを救おうとして心を尽くしてこられた悲しい心情をも、我々に教えることのできるものでなければならない。

What missions must the new truth fulfill? The new truth should be able to unify knowledge by reconciling the internal truth pursued by religion and the external truth pursued by science. Consequently, it will enable all people to overcome the two types of ignorance, internal and external, and fully comprehend the two types of knowledge.

Next, the new truth should lead fallen people to block the ways of the evil mind and to pursue the goals of the original mind, enabling them to attain goodness. It should guide people to remove the double-mindedness that sometimes seeks good and sometimes evil. It should empower religious people to overcome the contradiction which they face in their struggle to live according to the Way. 

For fallen people, knowledge is the light of life holding the power of revival, while ignorance is the shadow of death and the cause of ruin. Ignorance cannot beget true sentiments, and in the absence of knowledge and emotion the will to act cannot arise.
 
Without the proper functioning of emotion, intellect and will, one cannot live the life of a true human being. If we are created in such a way that we cannot live apart from God, then surely our ignorance of God consigns us to walk miserable paths. Though we may diligently study the Bible, can we really say that we know clearly the reality of God?

Can we ever grasp the Heart of God? The new expression‎‎ of truth should be able to reveal the Heart of God: His heart of joy at the time of creation; the broken heart He felt when humankind, His children whom He could not abandon, rebelled against Him; and His heart of striving to save them throughout the long course of history.
