그리하여 기독교 사회는 유물사상의 온상이 되었다. 공산주의는 이 온상에서 좋은 거름을 흡수하면서 무럭무럭 자랐다. 저들의 실천을 능가할 수 있는 능력을 잃어버렸고 저들의 이론을 극복할 수 있는 진리를 제시하지 못한 기독교는, 저들이 바로 자기의 품속에서 싹트고 자라서 그 판도를 세계적으로 넓혀 가는 것을 보면서도 속수무책(束手無策)이니 이 어찌 한심스러운 일이 아니겠는가?

그뿐 아니라 온 인류가 한 부모의 후예(後裔)임을 교리로써 가르치고 또 그와 같이 믿고 있는 기독교국가의 바로 그 국민들이 다만 피부의 빛깔이 다름을 인하여 그 형제들과 자리를 같이할 수 없게 된 현실은, 그리스도의 말씀에 대한 실천력을 잃어버리고 회칠한 무덤같이 형식화해 버린 현하(現下) 기독교의 실상을 드러내고 있는 그 대표적인 예라 하겠다.

이와 같은 사회적인 비극은 인간의 노력에 따라서는 종식될 날이 올는지도 모른다. 그러나 인간의 노력으로는 도저히 수습할 수 없는 사회악(社會惡)이 또 있다. 음란(淫亂)이 바로 그것이다. 그러므로 기독교의 교리는 이것을 죄 중의 가장 큰 죄로 다루고 있으면서도, 오늘의 기독교 사회가 현세인들이 몰려가는 이 윤락(淪落)의 길을 막을 수 없게 되었으니, 이 또한 얼마나 눈물겨운 실정인가!

かくしてキリスト教社会は唯物思想の温床となったのである。共産主義はこの温床から良い肥料を吸収しながら、すくすくと成長していった。彼らの実践を凌駕する力をもたず、彼らの理論を克服できる真理を提示し得なかったキリスト教は、共産主義が自己の懐から芽生え、育ち、その版図を世界的に広めていく有様を眼前に眺めながらも、手を束ねたまま、何らの対策も講ずることができなかったのである。これは甚だ寒心に堪えないことであった。

のみならず、すべての人類はみな同じ父母から生まれた子孫であるという教理に従って、それを教え、かつ信じているキリスト教国家の国民たちが、皮膚の色が違うというただそれだけの理由をもって、その兄弟たちと生活を同じくすることができないという現実は、キリストのみ言に対する実践力が失われ、灰色に塗られた墓場のごとく形式化してしまった現下のキリスト教の実情を、そのまま浮き彫りにする代表的な例だということができよう。
 
しかし、このような社会的な悲劇は、人間の努力いかんによって、あるいは終わらせることができるかもしれない。けれども、人間の努力をもってしては、いかんともなし得ない社会悪が一つある。それは、淫乱の弊害である。キリスト教の教理では、これはすべての罪の中でも最も大きな罪として取り扱われているのであるが、しかし、今日のキリスト教社会が、現代人が陥っていくこの淪落への道を防ぐことができずにいるということは、何よりもまた嘆かわしい実情といわなければなるまい。

Western society became a hotbed of materialism; it was the fertile soil in which communism flourished. Christianity lost the ability to equal the successes of either communism or materialism and failed to present the truth that could conquer their theories. Christians watched helplessly as these ideologies budded and thrived in their midst and expanded their influence all over the world. What a pity this is!

What is more, although Christian doctrine teaches that all humanity descended from the same parents, many citizens of Christian nations who profess this doctrine will not even sit together with their brothers and sisters of different skin colors. This illustrates the actual situation of today’s Christianity, which has lost much of the power to put the words of Jesus into practice. It has become a house of lifeless rituals, a whitewashed tomb. 
 
There may come a day when human efforts bring an end to such social evils, but there is one social vice that human efforts alone can never eradicate. That is sexual immorality. Christian doctrine regards this as a cardinal sin. What a tragedy that today’s Christian society cannot block this path of ruin down which so many people are rushing blindly!
