Today’s guest is David Sinclair, the renowned biologist, entrepreneur and bestselling author who has made it his life’s mission to help as many people as possible understand how our bodies work, why age and get so sick, and what we can do about it.
David has spent over 30 years researching, experimenting and pushing the boundaries of our perceived scientific limitations, revealing incredible breakthroughs that show how we can slow down and even reverse aging. What if everything we’ve been taught to believe about aging is wrong? What if we could choose our lifespan?
David’s credibility in the field is beyond question. He is the Professor in the Department of Genetics and co-Director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for Biology of Aging Research at Harvard Medical School. He is the co-founder of several biotechnology companies including Sirtris, Ovascience, Genocea, Cohbar, MetroBiotech, ArcBio, and Liberty Biosecurity and is on the boards of several others.
His work is featured in five books, two documentary movies, and Morgan Freeman’s popular series, “Through the Wormhole”. As a recognised inventor with over 50 patents, David has received more than 35 awards and honours including the Australian Commonwealth Prize, Leukemia Society Fellowship, Ludwig Scholarship, Harvard-Armenise Fellowship, and American Association for Aging Research Fellowship.
He has been listed in the Top 100 Australian Innovators, and TIME magazine’s “100 Most Influential People In The World”. His groundbreaking bestseller “Lifespan – Why We Age and Why We Don’t Have To” dives deeper than ever before into the complex workings of the human body, addressing the fundamental aspects of how and why we age, how that process has evolved over time, and most importantly, what we can do to stop it.
It’s an incredible insight and covers decades of tireless research David and his team have conducted at the Sinclair Laboratory. David points out that only 20 percent of our longevity is genetically determined. The rest is what we do, and how we live our lives. If we make small changes to our daily habits, we can extend our lives beyond what has been previously considered.
From caloric restriction, regular fasting and cold exposure to specific supplementation and short bursts of exercise, there are so many simple changes many of us can make to increase our potential lifespan. In the modern world, we have become convinced that three meals a day are necessary and beneficial, but for David, this overconsumption is not beneficial and in fact, could be damaging us in ways few of us could imagine.
“This is the kind of life I want for everybody… We should be able to live to our 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond in a healthy way, contributing to society, contributing to the community, educating our kids…”
David believes that a world where people can be healthy beyond 80 or 90 years creates a much more prosperous and productive society. A world where we no longer spend billions tending to so many frail, weak disease-ridden citizens.
We need to reprogram our bodies and make lasting changes because guess what? We only get one shot at this and if we continue down our current path of self-destruction, it’ll be over far too quickly. As David points out we’ve always viewed aging as just a natural part of life, but it needn’t be that way.
“Aging is a disease, and that disease is treatable.”
I can’t wait to sit down with David and pick his brains. There really is no need for so many to be so sick, and when you look at the numbers things are only getting worse. All of us are capable of changing our lives for the better, having more energy, and being happier and more productive.
If you want to start that process right now, then I commend you. I know that come the New Year I will be bombarded once more with messages from people around the world who feel run down and rotten from the excesses of Christmas. But, there really is no better time than today to make a positive change in your life. If you want to know exactly how to do that, then get started with my free 3-part video series and get a headstart on the New Year, New You brigade.
In the meantime make sure you tune in and share this episode with all of your family and friends because this is important information and we’ll be sharing the kind of advice that could transform your life for the better.
