** Saving Money on Gas **

We always try to go to the "no name" gas stations in our town .. they're able to buy
gas from whoever's cheapest and don't have to follow pricing guidelines like chain
stations. They're usually 5 cents (at least) cheaper than everywhere else for the same gas!
That being said ... Speedway stations have a rewards program where you earn points
based on what you spend .. there's a station on my husbands way home and one close
to our house so we usually stop there for anything that we need and I gave my sister
one of the keyring cards to use too. When prices were super high here we redeemed
our points and got 25 cents off per gallon of gas up to 25 gallons .. filled my husbands truck and half filled mine for alot less! Something to look into!

If you take your foot off the gas pedal when you go down hills and just glide, does it save gas? Since you pick up speed going down, you can usually glide at the speed limit for a ways even after the road has leveled off.

I've heard from local mechanics that riding with your windows down uses almost gas
as running the Air Conditioning because the wind coming into the car causes it to go
slower (?)
Also, change your oil as scheduled, every 3,000 miles...I never go past 5,000 miles
between oil changes. Also make sure you get your tune-ups every 50,000 miles for the
late model cars.
Also, if you drive a truck....let the tail gate down when driving.

Keep in mind, cars are more fuel efficient with the air conditioning on than with the air off and windows down while zipping down the freeway so cool of if you feel the need without worry.
Are your tires properly inflated? You will save so much money if you will keep the air "just right" in those tires. For examples, your won't have to replace your tires so soon, you will use less gasoline to make your care move, you will have a smoother ride.

I saw on the news that if you want to save a few cents per gallon of gasoline, buy
your gas before 10:00 a.m., as that's the average time the gas prices go up. They also said,if at all possible, do not buy your gas on Mondays or Thursdays. The reasoning was that because most people start their family vacations on Monday or Thursday.

Tires that are just a few pounds underinflated can waste 25% of your gas milege so
keep them properly inflated. It is important to know that changes in the weather
(mostly a sudden temperature swing) can really affect the pressure in your tires. Make sure your cars allignment is correct- if it pulls to the right or left it will waste gas. If you have a slow leak in a tire it only costs $10-15 to have the leak patched. Also-be careful about the type of tires you buy- off road truck tires suck gas. The other tip is not to run your defrost unless necessary- it uses the compressor which takes more gas.

My Daddy gave me this tip 20 years ago. Instead of using STP Gas Treatment (or
other brands of gas treatments) pour one bottle of rubbing ahcohol into the tank. Much cheaper and works the same. This is essential if you've gotten a tank of "bad gas".

Try to have 1 day a week that is a 'no drive' day. No errands, etc are allowed. If you need something, make do.
Have regular tune-ups and oil changes.

We try to conserve gasoline in our vehicles by combining as many trips as possible so
we are not going in and out so much. The more trips you have to make, the more gas
you use so it is wisest to make a list of all the places you have to go and figure out the best route to use and only go out one time for everything you need to do.

Buy your gas very, very early in the morning after the tank at the station has had time to chill out. Cold gasoline has many more molecules per gallon than warm gasoline so you will get much more gasoline for the same number of gallons. The volume of gas expands with heat.
Also don't run your heater nor your air conditioner if you can do without it. It costs a lot in terms of gasoline usage.

Keep a blanket or 2 in the car so if you have to wait for someone to go into the store or library or wait for kids after school - you don't have to run the engine the entire time !
Our Walmart sells giftcards here that are good for any Walmart gas station and when
you put your cash on the card, you then save about 3 cents a gallon Anytime over the
regular cost of the gas !
Don't be too shy to ask people when they ask for a ride and it's out of your way for a couple dollars for gas !
Carpools didn't DIE did they ? An 80's thing ??? haha
Walk or bike when ya can !

Avoid racing up to stop signs or stop lights -- you are going to have to stop when
you get there so just slow down a ways back from the stop signal. Then when you
leave a stopped position, don't slam your foot down on the gas pedal.
And take the junk out of the car and trunk.

Try to eliminate unnecessary trips. Keep a list of your town errands. Try to coordinate trips with your significant other or neighbor. Ask yourself, when does this need to be done? Can it wait? Find out where the other person's errands are and if you might tag along and do a couple of your own. Even if you have to wait for someone to come back and pick you up, you can catch up on reading, etc.

4.USA
Matt and his mother usually do their shopping together. When they go to the
supermarket, they always make a shopping list. That way they save time and don't buy
unnecessary things. They always bring coupons, too. Today they used three coupons
and saved two dollars. Matt and his mother are smart shoppers.

**The growing appeal of used book**

Used book lovers make pilgrimages to secondhand bookstores to find rare books. To
meet the demand, online used bookstores have opened up and a used book bestseller list is being issued.

It was in Japan that the industrialization of the secondhand book market began. Well
known for their love for books and frugality, Japanese people frequent secondhand
bookstores, but the rows of such shops in the Kanda district of Tokyo are well-known
to Koreans as well.

The latest trend in the secondhand book industry is large chains. One of the most
successful ventures is Book-Off. Established in 1991, the chain has 700 branches all
over Japan, and last year's revenue was 33.4 billion yen ($300 million).

In March, Book-Off went public and was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. What
are the secrets of Book-Off's success?

Most of all, the company has revolutionized the business model for secondhand
bookstores. Book-Off has a simple system for pricing used books. Once acquired, all
used books are priced at half of the original price. Books that are not sold in three
months are priced at 100 yen, just under a dollar. This system accelerates inventory
turnover and lessens the burden of overstocking.

What sets Book-Off stores apart from individually run secondhand bookstores is the
bright interior that reminds one of a convenience store. Shopping carts and baskets can be found at the entrance, and books have been neatly shelved by genre and author.

To make the used books more appealing, they are trimmed and polished. The covers are
wiped with a special detergent that gives the books the gloss of new ones. Book-Off's
success has triggered the startup of other chains.

A month ago, Book-Off opened a branch in Paris, where Japanese books are sold to the
local Japanese population. Book-Off estimates a store would be profitable in any major city with more than 5,000 Japanese residents.

The five-day workweek has begun in earnest, and the vacation season has arrived.
Now that we have a little more free time, why not plan a visit to a secondhand
bookstore with family members? You might find only one magazine, but your
participation and care can bring about the industrialization of secondhand bookstores a little sooner.
