OFF-LIMITS  접근금지

열두 살 때 나는 아버지가 제지공장을 퇴직할 때 받으셨던

성경책에 대해 호기심이 많았습니다.

As a 12-year-old,

I was curious about the Bible my dad was given

when he retired from the paper mill.

그것은 성경이라고 찍힌 특별한 삼나무 상자에 들어 있었는데,

나는 그 성경의 “성”을 내가 접근해서는 안 된다는 의미로 이해했습니다.

It came in a special cedar box marked The Holy Bible,

and I assumed that “holy” meant it was off-limits to me.

그런데도 나는 그 안을 자세히 들여다보았습니다.

성경 중간에 예수님이 십자가에 달려 있는 그림이 요한복음 3장 16절 말씀과 더불어 있었습니다.

But still I peered inside.

In the center of the Bible was a picture of Jesus

hanging on the cross, along with the words of John 3:16.

그리고 투명한 빨간 필름이 그 페이지를 덮고 있어서

주님이 피 흘리시고 죽으셨다는 것을 의미하는 것 같았습니다.

There was also a see-through red film covering the page,

which I assumed meant He bled and died.

간혹 아무도 안 볼 때면 책장에서 성스런 책을 조심스럽게 꺼내,

상자를 열고 십자가상의 예수님 그림을 들여다보고 성구를 읽으면서,

이분에 대해서 그리고 이분이 왜 돌아가셨나 궁금했습니다.

Occasionally, when no one else was looking,

I would gently pull the holy Book off the shelf,

open the box, look at the picture of Jesus on the cross,

read the verse, and wonder about this Man and why He died.

 이분의 사랑이 나를 위한 것인지,

 아니면 이것 역시 내가 접근할 수 없는 것이었는지 궁금했습니다.

I wondered if His love was meant for me or

if it too was off-limits.

몇 년이 지난 후 나는 하나님이 어떻게 예수님을 통해

하나님의 사랑으로 가는 길을 제공해주셨는지에 대한 설교를 들었습니다.

Several years later I heard a message

about how God had provided access to His love through Jesus.

로마서 5:1-2는 “우리가 믿음으로 의롭다 하심을 받았으니

우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님과 화평을 누리자...

우리가 믿음으로 서 있는 이 은혜에 들어감을 얻었으며”라고 말합니다.

Romans 5:1-2 tells us:

“We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

through whom also we have access by faith

into this grace in which we stand.”

나는 예수님으로 말미암은, 내 죄로부터의 구원을 믿고 받아들였습니다.

I believed and received Jesus’ salvation from my sin.

성경과 하나님의 사랑이 접근금지가 아니라는 것이 감사하지 않습니까?

Aren’t you thankful that the Bible and God’s love aren’t off-limits?

주님의 용서를 받아들이십시오.

그 용서는 바로 나와 당신처럼 신성하지 않은 사람들을 위한 것입니다.

Receive His forgiveness.

Romans 로마서 5:1-8

[롬] 5:1	Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
[롬] 5:2	through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.
[롬] 5:3	Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;
[롬] 5:4	perseverance, character; and character, hope.
[롬] 5:5	And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
[롬] 5:6	You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
[롬] 5:7	Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.
[롬] 5:8	But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

How precious is God’s holy Word - Its pages every one! They lead us to the Living Word- To Jesus, God’s dear Son. The Bible is God’s love letter to us.

하나님의 성스런 말씀 한 장 한 장 매 페이지가 얼마나 귀한가! 그 말씀이 우리를 살아있는 말씀이신 예수님, 하나님의 사랑하시는 아들에게로 인도한다네 성경은 하나님이 우리에게 쓰신 사랑편지이다.
