31형 호위함 초도함 HMS Venturer, 첫 착수

공식 진수는 아닌 것 같고 건조 중 뭔가의 이유로 물에 띄운 것 같습니다. 

HMS Venturer, 최초로 물 위에 띄워지다

이 포토 에세이는 영국 해군 최초의 31형 프리깃함인 HMS Venturer가 처음으로 물 위에 떠 있는 모습을 보여준다. Venturer는 어제 리스(Leith)에서 잠수 바지선을 이용해 띄워진 뒤 다시 강을 따라 로사이스(Rosyth)로 옮겨졌다.

작업은 월요일에 시작되었으며, Venturer를 실은 바지선이 로사이스를 출발해 포스 만(Firth of Forth)을 따라 11마일을 예인되어 리스에 도착했다. Babcock팀은 선박을 정확하게 띄우기에 충분한 수심을 확보하기 위해 하구에서 적절한 조수 시간을 기다려야 했다.

2021년 9월 첫 강판 절단 이후로 함정 작업에 참여해온 Babcock의 일부 조선공과 엔지니어들이 선상에 있었고, 예비 승조원들도 계약업체와 협력해 부상 작업이 순조롭게 진행될 수 있도록 했다.

예인선이 연결된 후, 프리깃함은 ‘처녀 항해’로 다시 강을 거슬러 올라갔으며, Venturer의 선임 해군 장교인 크리스 코즌스 중령이 탑승했다. 이는 그가 다른 보직으로 이동하기 전 마지막 주요 임무 중 하나였다.

Venturer는 다시 도크 내로 옮겨졌으며, 곧 3번 건조 도크에 들어가 장비 탑재 및 마무리 단계에 들어갈 예정이다. Babcock사는 이 복잡한 작업을 1년 내에 완료할 수 있을 것으로 자신하고 있다.

HMS Venturer afloat for the first time

This photo essay shows the Royal Navy’s first Type 31 Frigate afloat for the first time. HMS Venturer was floated off the submersible barge in Leith yesterday ad taken back up river to Rosyth.

The operation began on Monday, when the barge carrying Venturer left Rosyth and was towed the 11 miles down the Firth of Forth to Leith. The Babcock team then had to wait for a suitable tidal window in the estuary to provide enough depth of water to allow the ship to be precisely floated off.

Some of the shipwrights and engineers from Babcock who have worked on the ship since the first steel was cut in September 2021, were on board and members of the nascent ship’s company worked with the contractors to ensure the float off went smoothly.

Once tugs were attached the frigate was towed back up river on her ‘maiden voyage’ with Venturer’s Senior Naval Officer, Commander Chris Cozens, on board, one of his final acts before he moves on to another appointment.

Venturer was taken back into the basin and will shortly go into number 3 dry dock for the fitting out phase. Babcock are confident this complex task can be completed with a year.
