오늘의 영어 표현은: To be on the fence입니다.
 
With new devices and smartphones coming out every day in the mobile market it can be difficult deciding whether to upgrade or purchase a new phone.  
요즘 기술이 계속 좋아지면서 새로운 손전화 들이 많이  나오고 있는데요. 덕분에 고객들은 여러 가지 제품 가운데 뭘 사야 할지 고민하기도합니다. 마이크는 새로운 손전화를 살까말까 고민하고 있답니다. 새제품을 갖고는 싶은데 지금 쓰는게 아무런 문제가 없기 때문이라는 거죠.

그럼 먼저 Mike와 나눈 대화를 들어보시겠습니다.

Today’s phrase is to be on the fence. Listen carefully!
 
To be on the fence
Mike: Have you seen the new iPhone 5?
Jen: No.
Mike: I am on the fence about it. I have an iPhone 4 and part of me wants to upgrade but the other half is like…I have a phone, it works just fine.
Jen: Well, I say… you don’t need to be on the fence…just get what I have…the Samsung Galaxy Note.
Mike: Get the Samsung?
 
Mike는 제게 Have you seen the new iPhone 5? 라고 했습니다. 새로 나온 아이폰5를 봤냐는 거죠

그러면서 마이크는 그걸 살까말까 고민스럽다며  “I am on the fence about it”이라고 말하더라고요  왜냐하면 Mike가 지금 쓰고 있는 iPhone4도 작동이 잘되고 있으니까요.

저는 그 얘기를 듣고  마이크에게 고민하지 말라는 뜻으로 “You don’t need to be on the fence” 라고 말했습니다 그러면서 제가 쓰고 있는 손전화를 추천해줬죠.
 
오늘의 영어 표현 ‘To be on the fence’ 인데요 To be on the fence means that you are not able to decide something.

Fence / F E N C E / fence는 울타리죠? 그래서. On / O N / on the fence, on the fence는 ‘울타리 사이에서 선택하기 힘들다 / 아직 결정하지 못했다’는 뜻입니다.
그럼 여기서 오늘의 대화를 다시 한번 들어보시겠습니다. Listen carefully.

Now let me give you an example in Korean, try saying it in English.

그렇죠! She was on the fence about buying a new car.
