The deal, worth an initial sum of $1.2 billion, may yet be in-creased by 40 more orders by United. This would bring the total value of the sale to a figure closer to $3 billion. After a recent deal with the U.S. Air Force that was finalized earlier this year, Brazil-U.S. aero-nautics cooperation was again apparent as the Brazilian Embraer continues to gain relevance in international markets. Embraer expects 200-400 more of its jets with 70-75 seats will be sold to U.S.-based airlines over the next two years, and is await-ing the result of negotiations with three other airlines on deals to be determined by the end of this year.</P></UL></DIV>
