(67)4/15 Itinerary: Pedraza and Sepulveda: Towns that still retain the breath of the filter
We left the church of Vera Cruz on the outskirts of Segovia at 12:40 PM (8,700 km), and arrived at the medieval city of Pedraza an hour later (8,750 km). We came here on the recommendation of a Spanish tour guide we met at a Segovia café. Founded around 400 BC, the town developed into a nobleman's villa district after the expulsion of Muslim forces around 1400. Upon arrival, we found the town's stone houses, weathered by the passage of time, but still considered one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Spain.

Pedreza is in the province of Segovia, and is just one hours drive away from Madrid. Although clay pots found buried in the area suggest that people lived in clusters in the area as early as 400 B.C., it was not until the Spaniards reconquered Castilla from Arab occupation in the Fourteenth Century that the village began to grow, and dukes and nobles built residences there. The village is full of large houses where nobles lived during the middle ages. Until recently, many were derilict, but in the past 25 years houses, streets and the castle itself have been restored and as you stroll through the streets, you feel that the local inhabitants are very proud of their village.

Hidden within the impressive canyons in 'Las Hoces del Río Duratón' National Park, Sepúlveda is one of the prettiest villages in the province of Segovia with just one thousand inhabitants. The village has narrow streets, restaurants, local crafts shops and museum.
Sepúlveda is an ideal location to spend a day or even a weekend. There are a number of accommodation possibilities from small hotels to rural houses (casas rurales). The village still retains its authenticity and so far remains unaffected by tourism.
Sepúlveda is home to the largest colony of vultures in Europe. Almost 600 pairs of these birds have found a home in its rocky canyons which provide an ideal habitat for them to build their nests in. The birds form part of the attractive panoramic views and can be seen flying over the village.
The valley beautiful.
It was located on a high place in the village, so the view of the valley was nice.
