The Curse of the Bambino         As the curse of the Bambino had been known to lots of people in America, I think there are not enough people in Korea to know about this Curse. The Curse of the Bambino is for the Major League Baseball team Boston Redsox's numerous tragedydefeat in the post seasons, world serious, or at the end of the regular seasons and their hated rival New York Yankees grabbing 26 world champions, while Redsox with no world champions in the last 86 years before they finally reverses the Curse in year 2004. However the phrase the curse of the Bambino came out after Boston Redsox blew the world serious against Mets in 1986, which is to be known these days, one of the biggest choke in the sports history, the curse started out in 1918. Before 1918, Redsox was the dynasty in the Major League winning 5 world champions while Yankees have none. During those years, Redsox had the one of the greatest player in the history of the Baseball Babe Ruth. Following the 1919 season in which the team failed to make the Series but one in which Ruth hit an astounding (for that era) 29 home runs, Red Sox owner Harry Frazee sold the Babe to the New York Yankees for $100,000 cash and a $300,000 mortgage on Fenway Park. The Yankees went on to dominate the game of baseball, not just during the Ruth era but for decades afterwards, winning a total of 26 World Series since. The Red Sox, who had won five of the first 15 World Series ever played, have never won another since, instead subjecting their fans to years of blown leads, bone headed base running, and booted grounder. I consider this curse of the Bambino rather amusing, but for Redsox's fan it was getting their neck stomped every year.         I am not old enough to know and watched the Redsox fallen apart in the playoffs, but I know the recent tragedy and the most notorious tragedyloss for Redsox in the world serious in 1986. The Redsox have made into the world serious in 1986 and to face New York Mets. The first two games that played in Mets stadium, the Redsox won both games and commanded 2-0 lead and heading to their home town Boston. Every Redsox fan thought this is the year of finally winning the title; however, the curse has struck the Redsox since game 3. Shockingly, Mets have came away with the victory in game 3 and 4 which tied the serious two games apiece, but Redsox managed to win game 5 and they were on game away from reaching the promise land. Roger Clemens'brilliant performance in Game 6 for the Redsox, through 7th inning theyhad 3-2 lead; however Redsox committing the most devastating errors in the history caused Mets to climb back in to 3-3 in the 9th inning. But the Redsox was able to manage themselves and scored 2 runs in the 10th inning and it looked the serious was over. The Redsox's pitcher Calvin Schiraldi was able to put 2 batters out and one out away from the title; however the disasters started and Mets hitters suddenly got fired and Buckner's crucial error dropping the easy ball have led Mets to score scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 10th inning and Mets have just even this serious. The final game of the world serious again Redsox scored the first 3 runs, but unbelievably Mets scored 8 runs in 6th, 7th, and 8th inning and Redsox loosing the game 5-8 and it looked like Redsox have just gave their title to the Mets.         The tragedy continued in year 2003 in the American League championship game against their rival New York Yankees. Both teams were very evenly matched, which led up to game 7 the final deciding game to go to the world serious. The pitcher for Boston was Pedro Martinez who won couple of Cy Young awards in the past. Pedro's brilliantperformance, which just gave up 2 runs in 7th inning and Boston, was up 5-2. Redsox's manager Grady Little kept Pedro in 8th and 9thinning in the ball game. With just 5 outs left for Redsox to go to world serious Yankees batters have came alive because of exhausted pitcher Pedro Martinez and tied the score 5-5. It was too late for Redsox to pull Pedro out and in the 10th inning Yankees batter Aaron Boone hit the solo home run to win it for the Yankees and left Redsox another tragedydefeat. And the Curse of the Bambino came after this world serious like I said the beginning.These are only 2 of many losses in Redsox's history for 86 years.         After the year they lost to the Yankees Redsox fan like every year got onto the ban wagon and rooted for the Redsox to beat the Yankees. Redsox and Yankees have met in the American League Championship game once again, but it looked first Yankees were about to sweep the Redsox winning the first 3 games. This time, Redsox was able pull it out game 4 and 5 by scoring tying run in 9th inning against Mariano Rivera who is one of greatest closers and got the winning runs in the 12th and 14th inning. Curt Schilling who injured his ankle in earlier in the post season stitched his ankle and able to perform great in game 6 which Redsox won 4-2. No body had ever came back from 3-0 deflectin the MLB history. Redsox hitter Johnny Damon who struggle in game 1-6 hit grand slam and another 2 run homeruns which helped Redsox to finally beating the Yankees and wrote their history in the MLB coming back 3-0 and winning game 7 10-3. After the 19-8 loss to the Yankees in game 3 in the ALC, Redsox never looked back andthe brilliant performance by their starting pitching staffs, Redsox swept the Cardinals in the world serious and finally broke the Curse of the Bambino and won their first title since 1918.Redsox drew 3.2 millions of people in Boston in parade to celebrate their title, which they have waited for their whole life.         After I saw the Redsox winning the world serious, one side, I was disappointed by Cardinals and one side, if Redsox can do it then Philadelphia the city that I live which never won any of the title since 1983 can do it and it gave me some hope. Some of the Redsox fan said, "I will have no regret if I die right now."
