부정관사 (Indefinite Article)의 용법
※ 관사란? : 일종의 형용사로 명사 앞에서 그 명사를 수식하거나 보조하는 역할을 한다.
※ 관사의 종류 : 1. 부정관사 a (an) - 특정하지 않은 하나를 가리키는 명사 앞에
2. 정관사 the - 특정한 것, 정해진 것을 가리키는 명사 앞에 쓴다.
 
부정관사 (Indenfinite Article)의 용법
1) one (하나)의 약한 뜻 : 막연히 어떤 하나를 가리키며 우리말로 해석하지 않는다.
He is an Ameican student.
This is a desk and that is a chair.
2)one (하나)의 뜻
A week has seven days.
Rome was not but in a day.
the same (같은)의 뜻
We are of an age.
They are all of a size.
any (어떠한 ~라도, ~라는 것)의 뜻
A dog is a faithful animals. * 이때 a dog은 모든 종류의 개를 가리킨다. (종족대표)
(= Dogs are faithful animals)
A horse is a useful animal.
per (~마다, ~당)의 뜻
We play tennis once a week.
Take this medicine three times a day.

정관사 (Definite Article)의 용법
A. 앞에 나온 명사가 다시 반복될 때
I bought a book. The book is very interesting.
B. 서로 잘 알고 있는 명사 앞에
Would you open the window?
Will you pass me the salt, please?
C. 형용사구(절)에 의해 수식을 받는 명사 앞에
Seoul is the capital of Korea. * of korea는 capital을 꾸며준다.
The man at the bus stop is my father.

D. 종류전체(종족대표)를 나타낼 때
The dog is useful animal.
=__________________dog is a useful animal.
=__________________ are useful animals.
E. 형용사의 최상급이나 서수 앞에 * 서수 : 순서를 나타내는 말
He is the fastest runner in my school
It is on the second floor.
F. 유일한 자연물 앞에
A bird is flying in the sky.
The earth moves round the sun.
          3. 관사의 생략 (관사를 쓰지 않는 경우)
호격 (Vocative) : 부르는 말
Doctor, I have a headache
Waiter, bring me a cup of coffee.
자기 가족을 가리킬 때
Father is at home, but mother isn’t.
관직, 직위를 나타내는 말이 보어로 쓰일 때
They elected him mayor of their city.
He was appointed chairman.
식사, 운동경기, 학과목 이름 앞에
Let’s play tennis, * Let’s play the piano. (악기 이름 앞에는 the를 붙인다.)
We had breakfast at seven.
We have an examination in mathematics today.
건물이 본래의 목적으로 사용되는 경우
We go to church on Sundays. * go to the church : 다른 볼일로 교회에 가다.
I go to school at eight. * go to the church : 다른 볼일로 학교에 가다.
They were at table.
by + 교통수단을 나타내는 명사 앞에
She goes to school by bus.
They went there by plane.
2개의 명사가 대구를 이루는 경우
arm in arm
side by side
day and night
