God’s Blessing: Jesus

Matthew 5:3–12

Introduction

Brothers and sisters, today I want to speak about the true blessing of God.

Many people, even Christians, think blessing is money. Or higher status. Or good looks. Or pleasures.

But the Bible says : blessing is not a thing.

Blessing is a Person.

The greatest blessing is Jesus Christ. Amen?

I. What the World Calls Blessing

(First, I want to talk about what people around the world consider a blessing.)

Sociologists once studied the question: “Where do people find happiness?”

People in the world say:

“Blessing is money.”

“Blessing is power.”

“Blessing is beauty.”

“Blessing is pleasure.”

But does money give us peace?

No. Money comes, and money goes.

Does power give us true joy?

No. Power moves from one person to another.

Does beauty last forever?

No. Beauty fades away.

Does pleasure satisfy the soul?

No. After pleasure, the heart is still empty.

When people actually gained these things, they were not truly happy.

So, money, fame, beauty, and pleasure cannot give lasting joy.

Brothers and sisters, the world’s blessing is only for a short time.

But God’s blessing is forever. Hallelujah!

II. What True Blessing Is

(Next, let us hear what God’s Word tells us about real blessing)

Ephesians 1:3 says:
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”

Blessing comes from God.

Blessing is given through Jesus Christ.

Blessing is spiritual, not just material.

Verses 4–6 explain:

God chose us before creation.

God predestined us to be His children through Jesus.

God gives grace so that His glory will be praised.

True blessing is not money, not fame, not outward success.

True blessing is to be chosen by God, to belong to Christ, to be His children.

In Genesis 1:28, God blessed Adam and Eve: “Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth, and rule over it.”

The Hebrew word for blessing is “barak”—it means blessing comes from God’s will, not from human effort.

Even the fish of the sea and the birds of the air were “blessed” (Gen 1:22).

For them, blessing is not money or power. It is simply living as God created them to be.

For us humans, blessing is the same: living in a right relationship with God. A-men!

Jesus Himself Is the Blessing

Acts 4:12 says:
“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Jesus is the only Savior. He is the true blessing.

The English word happiness comes from happen—something that happens by chance. But blessing comes from the cross of Christ, purchased by His blood.

This is not something we earn.

Ephesians 2:8–9 says:
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

How do we receive this blessing?

God showed His love on the cross.

On the cross, Jesus took our sin.

On the cross, Jesus gave us forgiveness.

On the cross, Jesus showed us God’s love.

Then He rose again!

He gave us new life.

He gave us eternal hope.

This is the greatest blessing.

Not money.

Not power.

Not beauty.

But Jesus on the cross for us. Amen?

Jesus died for our sins.

Jesus rose again to give us new life.

This is the true blessing.

Not temporary. Not small. Eternal blessing.

III. The Blessed Life in Jesus

(Matthew 5:3–12)

Thirdly, I want us to think about what a truly blessed life in Christ looks like.

Many people think blessing means money, success, or comfort.

But Jesus shows us that true blessing is found in Him alone.

1. Poor in Spirit (v.3)

Jesus says, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

In Greek, this can be read as:

You are already blessed in Jesus.

Because you are blessed, your heart becomes poor in spirit.

And when your heart is poor in spirit, the kingdom of heaven belongs to you.

This means: we are already blessed in Christ. We don’t add anything to gain more blessings. We already received the greatest blessing — Jesus Christ Himself.

To be poor in spirit means to confess, “I cannot save myself. I need Jesus.”
Peter learned this when he denied Jesus and wept. At that moment, he had no strength left—only the mercy of Christ. That is the blessing of being poor in spirit.

2. Those Who Mourn (v.4)

“Verse 4 tells us: we are blessed, and so we live as people who mourn over sin and the pain of this world.”

3. The Meek (v.5)

Verse 5 teaches us this: since we are already blessed in Christ, we now live as the meek
Meekness is not weakness. Meekness is strength under God’s control.

4. Hungry and Thirsty for Righteousness (v.6)

In verse 6, we are called to live as those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.

True righteousness comes only from Jesus Christ.

5. The Merciful (v.7)

In verse 7, we are told that, because we are blessed, we live a life of showing mercy to others.
The most pitiful person is not the poor or the sick, but the one without Jesus.

6. Pure in Heart (v.8)

In verse 8, we are told that we live as those who are pure in heart.
Purity means an undivided heart—living fully for God, not half for Him and half for the world.

7. Peacemakers (v.9)

In verse 9, we are told that, because we are blessed, we live as peacemakers.
True peace is not just agreement. True peace is reconciliation with God through the cross. We become peacemakers when we share the gospel of forgiveness.

8. Persecuted for Righteousness (v.10–12)

In verses 10 to 12, we are told that, because we are blessed, we live as those who suffer for righteousness.
If people insult you or attack you because of Jesus, rejoice!

Your reward in heaven is great. You stand in the same line as the prophets and apostles who suffered for Christ.

The message of the Beatitudes is this: You are already blessed.

Therefore, you live as the poor in spirit,

as those who mourn,

as the meek,

as those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

as the merciful,

as the pure in heart,

as the peacemakers,

and as those who suffer persecution for righteousness.

Brothers and Sisters, many people come to church expecting earthly blessings.

But Jesus tells us: the true blessing is to know Him, to belong to Him, to walk with Him.

If you already believe in Jesus, you already have the greatest blessing. Nothing more is needed.

When you face trials, remember: true blessing is not freedom from suffering, but God’s presence in suffering.

True blessing is eternal life with Christ.

IV. Conclusion

So today, remember this one truth:

The true blessing of God is not money, power, or beauty.

The true blessing of God is Jesus Christ.

If you have Jesus, you are rich.

If you have Jesus, you are strong.

If you have Jesus, you are beautiful before God.

If you have Jesus, you are blessed forever!

So let us say together:

Jesus is my blessing!

Jesus is our blessing!

Amen. Hallelujah!

Let us pray.

Loving Lord, thank You for guiding us to preach about Your true blessing to our brothers and sisters in the Philippines.

Help us not to chase after the blessings of this world, but to live for the blessings of Your kingdom.

Help us to always remember the grace of the cross — the forgiveness of Jesus Christ — and live in that grace each day.

I. 세상이 축복이라고 부르는 것

사회학자들은 한때 "사람들은 어디에서 행복을 찾을까?"라는 질문을 연구했습니다.

세상 사람들은 이렇게 말합니다.

"복은 돈이다."

"복은 권력이다."

"복은 아름다움이다."

"복은 즐거움이다."

하지만 돈이 우리에게 평화를 줄까요?

아닙니다. 돈은 왔다가 갑니다.

권력이 우리에게 진정한 기쁨을 줄까요?

아닙니다. 권력은 한 사람에게서 다른 사람에게로 옮겨갑니다.

아름다움은 영원히 지속됩니까?

아니요. 아름다움은 사라집니다.

쾌락은 영혼을 만족시킵니까?

아니요. 쾌락 후에도 마음은 여전히 ​​공허합니다.

사람들이 실제로 이러한 것들을 얻었을 때, 그들은 진정한 행복을 얻지 못했습니다.

그러므로 돈, 명예, 아름다움, 쾌락은 지속적인 기쁨을 줄 수 없습니다.

형제자매 여러분, 세상의 복은 잠깐일 뿐입니다.

II. 진정한 복이란 무엇인가

에베소서 1장 3절은 이렇게 말합니다. "찬송하리로다 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 하나님 아버지께서 그리스도 안에서 하늘에 속한 모든 신령한 복으로 우리에게 복 주시되"

• 복은 하나님에게서 옵니다.

• 복은 예수 그리스도를 통해 주어집니다.

• 복은 물질적인 것이 아니라 영적인 것입니다.

4-6절은 다음과 같이 설명합니다.

• 하나님은 창조 전에 우리를 택하셨습니다.

• 하나님은 예수님을 통해 우리를 당신의 자녀로 예정하셨습니다.

• 하나님은 당신의 영광이 찬양받도록 은혜를 베푸십니다.

진정한 축복은 돈이나 명예, 외적인 성공이 아닙니다.

진정한 축복은 하나님께 택함을 받아 그리스도께 속하고 그분의 자녀가 되는 것입니다.

창세기 1장 28절에서 하나님은 아담과 하와에게 축복하셨습니다. "생육하고 번성하여 땅에 충만하라, 땅을 다스리라."

복에 해당하는 히브리어 단어는 "바라크"입니다. 이는 축복이 인간의 노력이 아니라 하나님의 뜻에서 온다는 것을 의미합니다.

바다의 물고기와 공중의 새들조차도 "복을 받았습니다"(창세기 1장 22절).

그들에게 축복은 돈이나 권력이 아닙니다. 그것은 단지 하나님께서 창조하신 모습 그대로 살아가는 것입니다.

우리 인간에게도 축복은 마찬가지입니다. 하나님과 올바른 관계를 맺고 사는 것입니다. 아멘!

예수님 자신이 축복이십니다

사도행전 4장 12절은 이렇게 말합니다. "다른 이로써는 구원을 얻을 수 없나니 천하 사람 중에 구원을 받을 만한 다른 이름을 우리에게 주신 일이 없음이니라."

예수님은 유일한 구원자이십니다. 그분이 진정한 축복이십니다.

영어 단어 '행복'은 우연히 일어나는 일에서 유래합니다. 하지만 축복은 그리스도의 십자가에서, 그분의 피로 사신 바 된 일에서 옵니다.

이것은 우리가 얻을 수 있는 것이 아닙니다.

에베소서 2장 8-9절은 이렇게 말합니다. "너희는 그 은혜에 의하여 믿음으로 구원을 얻었나니 이것은 너희에게서 난 것이 아니요 하나님의 선물이라 행위에서 난 것이 아니니 이는 누구든지 자랑하지 못하게 함이니라."

우리는 어떻게 이 축복을 받을 수 있을까요?

하나님은 십자가에서 당신의 사랑을 나타내셨습니다.

십자가에서 예수님은 우리의 죄를 담당하셨습니다.

십자가에서 예수님은 우리에게 용서를 주셨습니다.

십자가에서 예수님은 우리에게 하나님의 사랑을 보여 주셨습니다.

그리고 부활하셨습니다!

그분은 우리에게 새 생명을 주셨습니다.

그분은 우리에게 영원한 소망을 주셨습니다.

이것이 가장 큰 축복입니다.

돈도 아니고,

권력도 아니고,

아름다움도 아닙니다.

하지만 예수님께서 우리를 위해 십자가에 달리셨습니다. 아멘?

예수님은 우리 죄를 위해 죽으셨습니다.

예수님은 우리에게 새 생명을 주시기 위해 부활하셨습니다.

이것이 진정한 축복입니다.

일시적인 축복도 아니고, 작은 축복도 아닙니다. 영원한 축복입니다.

III. 예수님 안에서의 복된 삶

(마태복음 5:3-12)

셋째, 그리스도 안에서 진정으로 복된 삶이 어떤 모습인지 생각해 보시기 바랍니다.

많은 사람들은 축복이 돈, 성공, 또는 안락함을 의미한다고 생각합니다.

하지만 예수님은 진정한 축복은 오직 그분 안에서만 찾을 수 있음을 보여주십니다.

1. 심령이 가난한 자(3절)

예수님은 “심령이 가난한 자는 복이 있나니 천국이 그들의 것임이요”라고 말씀하셨습니다.

헬라어로는 다음과 같이 읽을 수 있습니다.

당신은 이미 예수님 안에서 복 받았습니다.

당신이 복받았기 때문에 당신의 마음은 심령이 가난해집니다.

그리고 당신의 마음이 심령이 가난할 때, 천국은 당신의 것입니다.

이것은 우리가 이미 그리스도 안에서 축복받았다는 것을 의미합니다. 더 많은 축복을 얻기 위해 아무것도 더할 필요가 없습니다. 우리는 이미 가장 큰 축복, 곧 예수 그리스도를 받았습니다.

심령이 가난하다는 것은 "나는 스스로를 구원할 수 없다. 나는 예수님이 필요하다"라고 고백하는 것을 의미합니다. 베드로는 예수님을 부인하고 울면서 이 사실을 깨달았습니다. 그 순간 그에게는 더 이상 힘이 남아 있지 않았고, 오직 그리스도의 자비만이 남았습니다. 이것이 바로 심령이 가난하다는 것의 축복입니다.

2. 애통하는 자들(4절)

“4절은 우리가 복이 있으므로 죄와 이 세상의 고통을 애통해하며 살아간다고 말합니다.”

3. 온유한 자(5절)

5절은 우리가 이미 그리스도 안에서 복이 있으므로 이제 온유한 자로 살아간다고 가르칩니다. 온유는 약함이 아닙니다. 온유는 하나님의 다스림 아래 있는 힘입니다.

4. 의에 주리고 목마른 자(6절)

6절에서 우리는 의에 주리고 목마른 자로 살도록 부름받습니다.

참된 의는 오직 예수 그리스도에게서 옵니다.

5. 자비로운 자(7절)

7절에서 우리는 복이 있으므로 다른 사람들에게 자비를 베푸는 삶을 산다고 말합니다. 가장 불쌍한 사람은 가난하거나 병든 사람이 아니라 예수님이 없는 사람입니다.

6. 마음이 청결함(8절)

8절에서 우리는 마음이 청결한 자들처럼 살아야 한다고 말씀합니다. 청결함은 나뉘지 않은 마음을 의미합니다. 즉, 반은 하나님을 위해, 반은 세상을 위해 사는 것이 아니라 온전히 하나님을 위해 사는 것입니다.

7. 화평하게 하는 자(9절)

9절에서 우리는 축복받았기에 화평하게 하는 자들처럼 살아야 한다고 말씀합니다. 진정한 평화는 단순한 합의가 아닙니다. 진정한 평화는 십자가를 통해 하나님과 화해하는 것입니다. 우리는 용서의 복음을 전할 때 화평하게 하는 자가 됩니다.

8. 의를 위해 박해받음(10-12절)

10절에서 12절까지 우리는 축복받았기에 의를 위해 고난받는 자들처럼 살아야 한다고 말씀합니다. 예수님 때문에 사람들이 당신을 모욕하거나 공격하더라도 기뻐하십시오!

하늘에서 당신의 상이 큽니다. 당신은 그리스도를 위해 고난받은 선지자들과 사도들과 같은 대열에 서 있습니다.

팔복의 메시지는 이것입니다. 당신은 이미 축복받았습니다.

그러므로 여러분은 심령이 가난한 자로서,

애통하는 자로서,

온유한 자로서,

의에 주리고 목마른 자로서,

긍휼히 여기는 자로서,

마음이 청결한 자로서,

형제자매 여러분, 많은 사람들이 세상적인 축복을 기대하며 교회에 옵니다.

하지만 예수님은 우리에게 이렇게 말씀하십니다. 진정한 축복은 그분을 알고, 그분께 속하고, 그분과 함께 걷는 것입니다.

만약 여러분이 이미 예수님을 믿는다면, 여러분은 이미 가장 큰 축복을 받은 것입니다. 더 이상 아무것도 필요하지 않습니다.

시련에 직면할 때, 기억하십시오. 진정한 축복은 고통으로부터의 자유가 아니라, 고통 속에 하나님의 임재입니다.

진정한 축복은 그리스도와 함께하는 영원한 생명입니다.

4. 결론

그러니 오늘 이 한 가지 진리를 기억하십시오.

하나님의 진정한 축복은 돈이나 권력이나 아름다움이 아닙니다.

하나님의 진정한 축복은 예수 그리스도입니다.

예수님이 계시면 여러분은 부유합니다.

예수님이 계시면 여러분은 강합니다.

예수님이 계시다면 당신은 하나님 앞에 아름답습니다.

예수님이 계시다면 당신은 영원히 축복받았습니다!
