David BECKHAM (ENG)
We are happy. We did our job and it doesn't matter if we play against Portugal or the Netherlands in the quarter-final. Today we haven't shown our full potential.
Wayne ROONEY (ENG)
We know that we are not far away from the Final, but I think this is where the competition gets really tough and we will have to be at our very best. We’ve had four games with three wins and a draw and I don’t think the performances have been too bad. I think it’s been alright and we have got the results we needed.
Frank LAMPARD (ENG)
I think the system worked and it was important to have an extra man in the middle of the field. Nevertheless we didn't stretch them enough in the first half. In the second half it was better because we put them under more pressure. The big teams are determined to win the World Cup, but you have to play very hard to win it.
Rio FERDINAND (ENG)
Everyone can see there are ups and downs. We created enough chances to win the game.
Ashley COLE (ENG)
We trained hard and the system worked. I'm 100 per cent fit and I’m feeling good. Our defence played better than against Sweden.
Joe COLE (ENG)
We should have got more goals in the second half. We can pack our bags tomorrow if we don’t pay attention and for me personally it was a tough match playing in this position.
Paul ROBINSON (ENG)
We were very pleased with the result. The victory was a struggle. I wouldn’t say we were particularly pleased with how we played.
Steven GERRARD (ENG)
We are in the last eight and we passed the ball a lot better in the second half.
Owen HARGREAVES (ENG)
We won 1-0 so we did the better job and we had quite a few chances to score.
Michael CARRICK (ENG)
I feel comfortable with the different system we played. It makes us more dangerous. Now we’ve got a few days' rest and then we will prepare for the next game. I'm enjoying the whole tournament and being part of it.
Luis VALENCIA (ECU)
We gave our all on the pitch and I'm happy with the work of all the team. We had a little bit of bad luck today. I think that England could play more offensively.
Agustin DELGADO (ECU)
We showed to the world today that Ecuador have a very good team. We worked step by step in this World Cup but I'm very sad because this is our last game. We were happy here and we enjoyed it.
Sven-Goran ERIKSSON (ENG)
I think it was about time that we got a bit of luck in a game. Yes, we could have scored more goals, but in the end we had to rely on (David) Beckham. He's a player who always attracts criticism, but he showed again today that he's capable of deciding a match.
We played much better in the second half, and so I’m confident about what’s to come. The team is getting better and Wayne Rooney is improving with every game. Why did I stop the (Peter) Crouch substitution? Because after the goal I thought that it was better to reinforce the midfield. That was the reason.
We’ve been improving in every game. We’re very happy to have got to this point. Now we’ve got six days to recover after what was a very hard game.
Luis Fernando SUAREZ (ECU)
It was an intense game, very nervy for both teams and it was only ever going to be resolved by a stroke of genius, such as Beckham's - it was impossible to save that free-kick. There is a lot of respect between the two teams, and above all that’s down to what the England coach now thinks of us.
I’m very proud of my players. I don’t know what would have happened if (Carlos) Tenorio had taken that chance, but without doubt the situation would have changed. I was sorry that he didn’t score, but it’s a matter of luck. Our performance in the tournament was very good. Our first aim was to get past the group stage, and we did that. We then wanted to go on and achieve more, because we were playing with spirit and confidence, but we couldn’t.
However, we’re happy because of what we’ve achieved. Ecuador won over (people watching) the World Cup and also won over the sceptics. People said that we could only win at altitude in Quito, but that view has changed.
