Birds, Birds
by D.J. YOON
I
A bird that cries squeak-squeak
Please call its name as it cries
It cries squeak-squeak
That's why I call it a squeak owl
A bird that cries cuckoo-cuckoo
Please call its name as it cries
It cries cuckoo-cuckoo
That's why I call it a cuckoo bird
A bird that cries cackle-cackle
Please call its name as it cries
It cries cackle-cacle
That's why I call it a cackle bird
The bird that cries thump-thump
Please call its name as it cries
It cries thump-thump
So I call it a thump bird
II
A bird goes squeak, squeak in the tree,
So Squeak Owl is the name for me.
A bird goes cuckoo in the wood,
So Cuckoo Bird sounds just as good.
A bird goes cackle loud and clear,
So Cackle Bird is what I hear.
A bird goes thump upon the ground,
So Thump Bird is the name I found.

Appreciation Review 感想
"Birds birds" is a charming and whimsical poem that captures the joy of language and sound through playful repetition and onomatopoeia.
Each stanza follows a consistent and musical pattern, making it feel almost like a nursery rhyme, which gives the poem a sense of rhythm and predictability that young readers or listeners can delight in.
The poet cleverly assigns each bird a name based on the sound it makes, highlighting the connection between identity and voice.
This simplicity is not a flaw but a strength, as it invites imagination, encourages phonetic awareness, and celebrates the natural world in an accessible and endearing way.
