Dear Dr Hwang,
I am saddened that you are relinquishing some of your official positions. You have provided hope to my family and me, and now that hope is diminished. Please hear our pleas and reconsider your decision. Remember, you have been doing your research to cure us paralyzed people. Therefore, it feels like you partially 'belong' to us. We are your extended family. Even though I am far away, in California, I can empathize with you. When I woke up in the hospital paralyzed, I thought my life was not worth continuing, especially since my injury was my fault. But I persevered and accomplished much, even though I continue to be humbled on a daily basis. Perhaps the shock of recent events has had a similar effect on you. I hope you will persevere, because if I didn't, and quit, my family would have fallen apart. The paralyzed family needs you. Yours fondly, ip California Last edited by ip : Yesterday at 02:29 PM. |

Dear Dr. Hwang Woo-Suk, You have given people like myself with SCI hope that a treatment will be available in the future. The research community cannot afford to lose scientists like yourself if there is ever going to be a cure for SCI. For myself and thousands of other SCI patients please continue your research efforts. Hope is all we have, please do not take it away. Robert Sagherian SCI T-10 Complete Unionville, CT. USA |

Dear Woo-Suk,
Your decision to step aside as leader of the World Stem Cell Hub speaks well of your character and integrity as both a person and a leader. Trust your heart. You did what you thought was best for your team and the world. If you feel your actions require you to stop your research, I understand. Please do not let the unethical actions of others persuade you from leaving the field of research. Their actions are their disgrace. Not yours. 감사합니다. Best wishes, Steven __________________

Dr. Hwang, Your actions in this matter have only proved to me that you are a man of high ethical standards and extreme honor. I am convinced that your work has and will continue to revolutionize science and medicine. As a current medical student and future physician, I implore you to continue your research work. Your efforts are clearly needed and undoubtedly appreciated. Thank you, Monique |

Dear Dr. Hwang Woo-Suk As a C7 quadraplegic, watching your efforts to advance science has given me great hope. Please reconsider your decision to resign from your work. While I appreciate the humility of such an act, your vision and compassion are desperately needed in the fight to cure the sick and disabled. Sincerely Noah Smith San Diego, USA |

Dr Hwang Woo-Suk, Your research and recent groundbreaking work has brought hope to many, many SCIs like myself. Today's news of your resignation is a great blow. You seem indeed to be an honorable and loyal man and you have acted as such, but sadly the result feels to be an enormous loss. As others here have written, please continue. You have all our support and gratitude. Barbara T4, France |

Dear Dr Hwang, I read with much disappointment news about your resignation and your decision not to continue with the research. You were the only hope to see our son walking one day. He is hardly 2 years old and suffers from Spinal Muscular atrophy. We thoroughly understand your reasons for taking the decision but consider the millions of patients suffering and their families who are hoping on your research... We kindly request to you to reconsider your decision. The world needs you Dr Hwang Kavitha New Jersey |

Dear Dr. Hwang Woo-Suk, Our son, Jacob, is a young man of great heart and mind, whose injury has put his life on hold for over two years now. I fervently hope that you will continue your work. An unintended mistake can be forgiven and honor restored by the good that is yet to come. Thank you for your immense accomplishment so far! Tana Golden Washington State |

Dear Dr. Hwang, please ignore the bad things that have been sad lately about the ethical problem, just focus on how many people can benefit from your research. Please reconsider your decision and go on with ESC research. Best regards, Paolo Cipolla Italy |

Dear Dr. Hwang, I can only echo all the thoughts and pleas conveyed so passionately here by the CC community. The world has clearly spoken, and the outpouring of support for your behavior in this recent and oh so tragic incident is truly stunning. Under these most unfortunate circumstances, it is so very clear that you have conducted yourself with matchless dignity and professionalism. And now, the world implores you to reconsider your decision to withdraw from this incredibly valuable research. We in the SCI community have come to regard you as among the tiny handful of people alive today to be thought of as titans in this noble, but so difficult, battle to restore life, hope, and freedom from so many hideous diseases for so many hundreds of thousands of humanity forced to suffer so horribly. I realize your feelings must be quite complex and conflicted. However, should you somehow feel that your announced withdrawal fulfills some needed act of contrition on your part, what better way to achieve such an objective then to go forward with your crusade to bring joy and light to all the world? |
