prologue. We begin with guidance on practicing the 15 stages of the Jesus Prayer I spent a long time reflecting on why God allowed a small person like me to learn the Jesus Prayer practice. In conclusion, I came to realize that the restoration of spirituality that God wants to do is within this grace. After careful consideration, we decided to create a guidebook that would help you practice the 15 stages of the Jesus Prayer. Of course, the starting point of this small booklet was prompted by Professor ‘Oh Bang-sik’ of Presbyterian Theological University requesting that doctoral pastors give ‘lectures for practice.’ At first, I was asked to give three lectures, but as I started researching, I felt that it was not enough. So I created 12 courses, and then completed them with 15 courses as supplements. The Jesus Prayer is very important to Christian (Reformed Church) spirituality. Of course, this spirituality was developed in the East, but it allows us to know the spirituality of the Desert Fathers, which can be said to be the root of the Reformed Church. My personal interest is to learn more deeply about the flow of spirituality leading to the Desert Fathers, Meister Eckhart, Johann Tauler, and Luther. I am convinced that the Jesus Prayer (prayer of the heart) is the first starting point for this experience of knowledge. Therefore, I hope that this book will be used and studied as a small starting point for understanding the essence of reformed church spirituality. And one more thing: If you study and practice according to this book, a world of practical spirituality that we could not even imagine will unfold before you. Of course, my argument still lies in looking at all these things comprehensively within the flow of ‘Jesus Prayer-ConQ.T’. I wish you a happy journey. |
