7275 new cases of endometrial cancer were observed in 2012. This is the most common gynecological cancer after breast cancer. But some profiles have more risk of developing endometrial cancer.
Unlike cervical cancer , which affects rather young women, endometrial cancer almost always occurs after menopause in women aged 68 years on average. It touches the upper part of the uterus and more exactly the tissue (endometrium) that lines the inside of the cavity. Most at risk are those women who have a history of polyps in the uterus and those who suffer from obesity and / or diabetes. Both diseases are accompanied by the effect of an increased production of estrogens, hormones that promote the growth of cancer cells. The endometrial cancer also develops more frequently in women treated with tamoxifen , used as hormone therapy to prevent recurrence of some breast cancers .
