폴란드는 러시아 드론에 대해 발사된 폴란드 미사일이 최근 공습 중 주택 피해를 일으킨 원인이라고 판단했다.

루블린주 브워다바군에 위치한 비리키-볼라 마을의 한 주거지에 밤사이(2025년 9월 9~10일) 떨어진 탄체의 성격을 규명하기 위한 조사가 시작되었다. 충격으로 주택 지붕과 인근에 주차된 차량이 손상됐지만, 부상자는 보고되지 않았다.

폴란드 당국은 이제 그 피해가 요격 시도 중 발사된 미사일에 의해 발생했을 가능성이 가장 높다고 밝혔다.

특수서비스 조정관 장관 토마시 셰모냐크는 TVN 24와의 인터뷰에서 “모든 정황은 그것이 우리의 비행기가 폴란드를 방어하고, 조국을 방어하고, 우리 시민을 방어하는 과정에서 발사한 미사일임을 가리킵니다.”라며 “그리고 군은 이러한 손실을 보상하겠다고 밝혔습니다.”라고 말했다.

도날트 투스크 폴란드 총리와 마르크 뤼테 나토 사무총장은 폴란드 공군의 F-16 전투기가 ‘이스트런 오로라’ 작전에 참여했다고 확인했다. 이 방공 임무는 우크라이나에 대한 타격 중 폴란드 영공에 진입한 약 20대의 러시아 드론을 요격하는 것을 목표로 했다. 작전에서 사용된 미사일은 AIM-120 AMRAAM 공대공 미사일이었을 가능성이 높다.

비공개 문건을 둘러싼 논란 비리키 사건은 바르샤바에서, 고위 관리들이 언제 보고를 받았는지와 어떤 정보를 전달받았는지를 둘러싼 정치적 공방을 촉발했다.

대통령 카롤 나브로츠키를 보좌하는 국가안보국(BBN)은, 폴란드 미사일이 해당 주택을 타격했을 수 있다는 내용이 현지 언론에 보도되기 전에 비밀 보고서를 받은 사실을 부인했다. BBN 수장 야체크 시에비에라는 자신도, 대통령도 사전에 포괄적인 설명을 전달받지 않았다고 말했다.

이에 대해 셰모냐크는 상반되는 입장을 밝혔다. 그는 2025년 9월 12일 폴란드 작전사령부에서 작성한 메모가 당시 입수 가능한 모든 지식을 담아 실제로 BBN에 전달되었다고 말했다. 이 타임라인은 특히 민감한 사안인데, 같은 날 마르친 보사츠키 외무부 차관이 유엔 안보리에서 비리키 사건의 책임을 러시아에 돌렸기 때문이다.

투스크는 X에 “비리키 주택 피해에 대한 모든 책임은 드론 도발의 주체인 러시아에 있다.”라고 썼다. “절차가 마무리되면, 관련 기관이 사건의 모든 정황을 대중, 정부, 대통령에게 알릴 것입니다. 폴란드 군인들에게 손대지 마십시오.”

나토, 방공 강화 이번 사건 이후, 폴란드 당국은 일련의 러시아 드론의 동맹 영공 침범에 따라, 나토에 우크라이나 상공 비행 금지구역 설정을 촉구했다.

Poland has determined that a Polish missile fired at a Russian drone was responsible for damage to a house during a recent air raid. 

An investigation was launched to identify the nature of the projectile that struck a residential property in the village of Wyryki-Wola, located in Włodawa County, Lublin Voivodeship, overnight between September 9 and 10, 2025. The impact damaged the roof of the house and a nearby parked car, but no injuries were reported. 

Polish authorities have now indicated that the damage was most likely caused by a missile fired during an interception attempt. 

“Everything indicates that it was a missile fired by our plane in defense of Poland, in defense of the homeland, in defense of our citizens,” said Tomasz Siemoniak, Minister Coordinator of Special Services, in an interview with TVN 24. “And the military has declared that it will cover these losses.” 

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed that F-16 fighter jets from the Polish Air Force were involved in Operation Eastern Aurora, an air defense mission aimed at intercepting around 20 Russian drones that had entered Polish airspace amid strikes on Ukraine. The missile used in the operation was likely an AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missile. 

Dispute over classified note 

The Wyryki incident has triggered a political row in Warsaw over when senior officials were briefed and what information they received.

The National Security Bureau (BBN), which advises President Karol Nawrocki, denied having received a classified report before local media revealed that a Polish missile may have struck the house. BBN head Jacek Siewiera said neither he nor the president had been given a comprehensive account in advance. 

That statement was contradicted by Siemoniak, who said a note from the Polish Operational Command had in fact reached the BBN on September 12, 2025, containing all knowledge available at the time. The timeline is especially sensitive since Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Bosacki addressed the UN Security Council on the same day, blaming Russia for the Wyryki incident. 

“All responsibility for the damage to the house in Wyryki falls on the authors of the drone provocation, that is, Russia,” Tusk said on X. “Once the proceedings are completed, the relevant services will inform the public, the government, and the president about all the circumstances of the incident. Hands off Polish soldiers.” 

NATO bolsters air defenses

Since the incident, Polish authorities have urged NATO to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine following a series of Russian drone incursions into alliance airspace.
