Son shines in 100th match to lead S. Korea past Chile in pre-World Cup tuneup

SEOUL, June 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korea blanked undermanned Chile 2-0 in their pre-World Cup friendly match at home Monday, with their biggest star coming through with a late goal to mark a personal milestone.

Captain Son Heung-min, the Tottenham Hotspur scoring star and Premier League Golden Boot winner, celebrated his entry into the FIFA Century Club with an injury-time free kick goal, his 32nd score in his 100th international match.

Hwang Hee-chan of Wolverhampton Wanderers, the other Premier League from South Korea, put the hosts on the board in the 12th minute at Daejeon World Cup Stadium in Daejeon, some 160 kilometers south of Seoul, and South Korea earned their first win over Chile in three meetings.

Chile took a page out of Brazil's playbook and applied high pressure on South Korea in the opening minutes. Chilean forwards formed the first line of defense as they tried to win back possession deep in the South Korean zone, and it caused some early turnovers.

But South Korea soon regained their composure and established their presence in the attacking zone.

Winger Hwang Hee-chan then opened the scoring in the 12th minute. After taking the pass from Jeong Woo-yeong on the left flank, Hwang cut to the middle and fired a right-footed shot into the top right corner. It was Hwang's first international goal since November last year.

Chile started pushing back, with Marcelino Nunez in the 36th minute and Diego Valencia two minutes later each missing the net to the right from close range.

Benjamin Brereton Diaz came within inches of leveling the score for Chile in the 44th minute, after picking off a mediocre South Korean pass in midfield and rolling his subsequent shot just wide of the left post.

South Korea gained a man advantage just seven minutes into the second half, when Chilean defender Alex Ibacache was sent off with his second yellow card.

But Chile wouldn't go down without a fight. Brereton Diaz thought he'd headed home the equalizer at the hour mark, only to see an offside call wipe out his goal.

South Korea nearly doubled their lead, courtesy of Son, in the 66th minute after a nifty give-and-go with Jeong Woo-yeong. But Son's left-footed shot from the left side of the box skipped just outside the far post.

Brereton Diaz threatened to score again some seven minutes later as he sped into the box past the napping defense but couldn't put his low shot past goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu.

Son finally found the back of the net with the clocking ticking down, scoring a gorgeous free kick goal from just outside the box to round out the scoring.

This was the second of four friendly matches that South Korea have scheduled for June, as part of their preparation for the FIFA World Cup in November.

South Korea had lost to Brazil 5-1 last Thursday in Seoul. They will next host Paraguay on Friday in Suwon, some 45 kilometers south of the capital. The final match will be on June 14 against Egypt in Seoul.

6일 칠레와의 친선 경기가 열린 대전월드컵경기장. 1-0으로 앞선 후반 44분 황희찬(울버햄프턴)이 손흥민(토트넘)과 페널티 아크 정면 부근에서 패스를 주고받으며 돌파하다 수비에 걸려 넘어지면서 프리킥이 주어졌다. 이날 A매치(국가대항전) 100경기째 출전한 손흥민이 키커로 나섰다. 손흥민은 오른발로 감아 차 골문 오른쪽 구석에 꽂히는 그림 같은 골을 터뜨렸다. 자신의 센추리 클럽(A매치 100경기 출전) 가입을 기념하는 축포를 터뜨린 손흥민은 경기장을 가득 메운 4만여 명의 팬 앞에서 특유의 ‘카메라 세리머니’를 선보이며 환하게 웃었다. 골을 넣고 고승범(상무)과 교체된 손흥민은 팬들의 박수를 받으며 벤치로 들어왔다.

파울루 벤투 감독이 이끄는 한국 축구 대표팀(FIFA 랭킹 29위)이 황희찬과 손흥민의 골을 앞세워 칠레(FIFA 랭킹 28위)를 2대0으로 꺾었다. 지난 2일 세계 최강 브라질에 당한 1대5 패배를 딛고 일어나 오는 11월 열리는 카타르월드컵 조별리그 상대인 우루과이를 대비한 ‘모의고사’에서 기분 좋은 승리를 거뒀다. 한국은 칠레와의 역대 전적에서도 1승1무1패로 균형을 이뤘다.

손흥민은 이날 최전방 공격수로 선발 출전하면서 한국 남자 선수로는 열여섯 번째로 센추리 클럽에 가입했다. 2010년 12월 시리아와의 친선 경기에서 18세 나이로 A매치 데뷔전을 치른 지 12년 만이다. 100경기 중 83경기를 선발로 뛰었고, 주장 완장을 차고는 31경기에 나섰다. 손흥민은 A매치 세 번째 경기였던 2011년 1월 아시안컵 조별리그 인도전에서 A매치 데뷔골을 넣은 후 이날 칠레전 쐐기골까지 100경기에서 32골을 넣었다. 차범근(58골), 황선홍(50골), 박이천(36골), 김재한, 이동국(이상 33골)에 이어 역대 한국 남자 선수 중 6위다. 32골 중 왼발로 10골, 오른발로 20골, 헤딩으로 2골이다. 전반전 득점이 9골, 후반전이 23골로 경기 막바지에 더 집중력을 발휘했다. 그가 18세 194일의 나이에 넣은 A매치 데뷔골은 고종수(18세 87일)에 이어 역대 한국 선수 A매치 최연소 득점 2위 기록이다. 손흥민은 경기 후 “브라질전 패배 후 선수들이 한마음으로 뭉쳐 경기를 잘한 것 같다. 100번째 경기를 자축할 수 있어서 감사하게 생각한다”며 “매 순간 열심히 뛰다 보니 100경기가 된 것 같다. 최대한 노력해 팬들의 사랑에 보답하겠다”고 말했다.

한국은 전반 12분 황희찬의 선제골로 앞섰다. 황희찬은 페널티박스 왼쪽 모서리 부근까지 치고 들어간 후 오른발로 감아 차 골망을 갈랐다. 황희찬의 A매치 8호 골. 2018년 자카르타·팔렘방 아시안게임 금메달 멤버인 황희찬은 칠레전을 마치고 기초 군사 훈련을 받기 위해 훈련소에 들어간다. 최근 소속 팀에서 부진했던 황희찬은 입소 전 마지막 경기에서 골 맛을 보며 기분 좋게 군사 훈련에 임할 수 있게 됐다. 한국은 후반 7분 칠레 수비수 알렉스 이바카체가 경고 누적으로 퇴장당하면서 수적 우위에 섰고 계속 밀어붙인 끝에 손흥민의 추가골까지 더해 칠레전 첫 승리를 따냈다.

벤투 감독은 브라질전과 달리 수비형 미드필더를 두 명 배치하면서 안정감을 줬다. 공격형 미드필더로 나선 정우영(프라이부르크)은 왕성한 활동량으로 전방 압박에 나서면서 한국이 경기 주도권을 잡는 데 큰 역할을 했다. 벤투 감독은 “지난 경기를 치르고 보완한 부분이 균형이 잡히면서 승리를 거뒀다”며 “대표팀에서 항상 좋은 경기력을 보여주는 손흥민을 보면 기쁘다”고 말했다.

전반 6분 북쪽 스탠드에선 ‘기억해 YOU’라는 문구로 카드 섹션이 펼쳐졌다. 작년 암으로 세상을 떠난 유상철 전 인천 유나이티드 감독의 사망 1주기가 7일인데, 현역 시절 등번호 6번을 달고 뛰었던 유 전 감독을 기리기 위해서다. 한편, 브라질은 이날 일본과의 원정에서 네이마르의 페널티킥 결승골을 앞세워 1대0으로 이겼다.

지킬 박사와 하이드씨(Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde)


1. 지킬 박사와 하이드씨(Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) / 스티븐슨(R.L. Stevenson)
 
1. 《지킬 박사와 하이드 씨(Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde)》(원제는 《지킬 박사와 하이드 씨의 이상한 사건(Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde)》이지만 한국에는 줄인 제목으로만 알려져 있다. 영미권에서도 종종 줄여서 부른다.)는 로버트 루이스 스티븐슨이 쓴 단편소설이다. 그 내용은 변호사인 찰스 어터슨이 그의 오랜 친구인 헨리 지킬 박사와 사람을 혐오하는 사람인 에드워드 하이드의 괴상한 관계의 조사에 관한 것이다. 이 책은 1886년에 처음 출간되었다. (출간될 당시에는 정관사 "The"가 붙어있지 않았다.)
이 책이 환각제의 영향하에 쓰였다는 주장이 있다. 집필 당시에, 스티븐슨은 지역 병원에서 버섯류인 맥각으로 치료받고 있었다. 맥각이 LSD 성분을 포함하지 않는다는 일부의 소문과는 반대로, 맥각은 예측할 수 없는 양의 비슷한 물질을 포함하고 있다. LSD가 합성된 것도 바로 맥각류의 파생 종으로부터 인데, 그것은 맥각의 활성 성분의 순수한 형태를 만들어내기 위한 노력에서 나온 것이다. 따라서 이 책이 자아와의 싸움을 주제로 한 것과, 이것이 그에게 통제 불능의 느낌을 준 우연한 마약 복용 경험에 의해 발생한 것이라는 것일 수도 있다
 
Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a Gothic novella by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, first published in 1886. The work is also known as The Strange Case of Jekyll Hyde, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, or simply Jekyll and Hyde. It is about a London legal practitioner named Gabriel John Utterson who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and the evil Edward Hyde. The novella's impact is such that it has become a part of the language, with the vernacular phrase "Jekyll and Hyde" referring to people with an unpredictably dual nature: outwardly good, but sometimes shockingly evil.


2. 지킬 박사와 하이드씨(Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) 줄거리
 
어주미의 어터슨은 걱정할 필요가 없다고 한 지킬 박사의 보장에도 불구하고 이 조사는 그저 호기심과 걱정에서 시작되었다. 그 조사는 하이드가 명망있는 국회의원의 잔인한 살인사건 현장에서 발견되었을 때 양상이 바뀐다. 어터슨이 그 범죄 수사를 돕게 되자, 지킬은 점점 더 은둔적이고 우울해지고, 어터슨은 지킬 박사가 하이드씨를 돕고 있다고 믿게 된다.


결국, 지킬은 아무도 이해할 수 없다는 정신적 부담에 사로잡힌 채 그의 실험실에 그 자신을 고립시킨다. 어터슨의 다른 친구인 래니언이, 지킬이 연루된 것으로 보이는 끔찍한 정신적 충격으로 갑작스레 죽는다. 결국, 지킬의 집사가 어떻게 해서 지킬의 잠긴 실험실에 들어와서 지킬을 죽인 낯선 사람을 처리하는 것을 도와달라고 요청하러 어터슨에게 온다. 그들은 함께 실험실에 있는 낯선 사람은 하이드라는 것을 알아내고, 그들은 문을 부수고 들어가지만 자살로 죽은 하이드의 시체를 찾아낼 뿐이었고 지킬은 어디에서도 발견되지 않는다.


마침내, 어터슨은 그의 죽은 친구가 그에게 남긴 두 통의 편지를 읽는다. 첫 번째 것은 래니언으로부터 받은 것이고 그 편지는 하이드는 지킬의 연구로 만든 약물에 의해 지킬이 육체적으로 다른 자아로 변형된 것이나 다름없다는 것을 래니언이 직접 목격했다고 밝힌다.

Gabriel John Utterson and his cousin Richard Enfield reach the door of a large house on their weekly walk. Enfield tells Utterson that months ago, he saw a sinister-looking man named Edward Hyde trample a young girl after accidentally bumping into her. Enfield forced Hyde to pay her family £100 to avoid a scandal. Hyde brought Enfield to this door and gave him a cheque signed by a reputable gentleman later revealed to be Doctor Henry Jekyll, Utterson's friend, and client. Utterson fears Hyde is blackmailing Jekyll, as Jekyll recently changed his will to make Hyde the sole beneficiary. When Utterson tries to discuss Hyde with Jekyll, Jekyll tells Utterson he can get rid of Hyde when he wants and asks him to drop the matter.


One night in October, a servant sees Hyde beat Sir Danvers Carew, another one of Utterson's clients, to death and leave behind half a broken cane. The police contact Utterson, who leads officers to Hyde's apartment. Hyde has vanished, but they find the other half of the broken cane. Utterson recognizes the cane as one he had given to Jekyll. Utterson visits Jekyll, who shows Utterson a note, allegedly written to Jekyll by Hyde, apologizing for the trouble that he has caused. However, Hyde's handwriting is similar to Jekyll's own, leading Utterson to conclude that Jekyll forged the note to protect Hyde.


For two months, Jekyll reverts to his former sociable manner, but in early January, he starts refusing visitors. Dr. Hastie Lanyon, a mutual acquaintance of Jekyll and Utterson, dies of shock after receiving information relating to Jekyll. Before his death, Lanyon gives Utterson a letter to be opened after Jekyll's death or disappearance. In late February, during another walk with Enfield, Utterson starts a conversation with Jekyll at his laboratory window. Jekyll suddenly slams the window shut and disappears, shocking and concerning Utterson.


In early March, Jekyll's butler, Mr. Poole, visits Utterson and says Jekyll has secluded himself in his laboratory for weeks. Utterson and Poole break into the laboratory, where they find Hyde's body wearing Jekyll's clothes, apparently having killed himself. They find a letter from Jekyll to Utterson. Utterson reads Lanyon's letter, then Jekyll's. Lanyon's letter reveals his deterioration resulted from the shock of seeing Hyde drink a serum that turned him into Jekyll. Jekyll's letter explains he had indulged in unstated vices and feared discovery. He found a way to transform himself and thereby indulge his vices without fear of detection. Jekyll's transformed body, Hyde, was evil, self-indulgent, and uncaring to anyone but himself. Initially, Jekyll controlled the transformations with the serum, but one night in August, he became Hyde involuntarily in his sleep.


Jekyll resolved to cease becoming Hyde. Despite this, one night he had a moment of weakness and drank the serum. Hyde, his desires having been caged for so long, killed Carew. Horrified, Jekyll tried more adamantly to stop the transformations. Then, in early January, he transformed involuntarily while awake. Far from his laboratory and hunted by the police as a murderer, Hyde needed help to avoid capture. He wrote to Lanyon in Jekyll's hand, asking his friend to bring chemicals from his laboratory. In Lanyon's presence, Hyde mixed the chemicals, drank the serum, and transformed into Jekyll. The shock of the sight instigated Lanyon's deterioration and death. Meanwhile, Jekyll's involuntary transformations increased in frequency and required ever larger doses of the serum to reverse. It was one of these transformations that caused Jekyll to slam his window shut on Enfield and Utterson.


Eventually, one of the chemicals used in the serum ran low, and subsequent batches prepared from new stocks failed to work. Jekyll speculated that one of the original ingredients must have had some unknown impurity that made it work. Realizing that he would stay transformed as Hyde, Jekyll wrote out a full account of the events and locked himself in his laboratory with the intent to keep Hyde imprisoned and, as Poole and Utterson smashed down the door to the laboratory, committed suicide by poison.
