John 3
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
"For God did not send the Son into the world
to judge the world,
but that the world might be saved through Him.
"He who believes in Him is not judged
he who does not believe has been judged already,
because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world,
and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.
"For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light
for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
"But he who practices the truth comes to the Light,
so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God."
The Best Life of a Believer
Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, "Do not imagine that you in the king's palace can escape any more than all the Jews. "For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?" Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, "Go, assemble all the Jews who are found in Susa, and fast for me; do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maidens also will fast in the same way. And thus I will go in to the king, which is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish." Esther 4:13-16
There are two books named after a woman among the 66 books in the Bible. One is Ruth and the other is Esther. If you find a phrase to remember in Ruth, it's probably next.
But Ruth said, "Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God. "Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. Thus may the LORD do to me, and worse, if anything but death parts you and me.“ Ruth 1:16-17
Esther records the reign of Ahasuerus of Persia. Esther, who was taken prisoner of the Jews, becomes the queen of King Ahasuerus. King Ahasuerus is the Persian king Xerxes who appeared in the movie 300. Esther is selected the king's queen because she is outstanding among the 127 provinces. And Mordecai was her cousin. Conflicts arise between Mordecai and King’s officer Hamann.
This conflict has its roots deeper. As I said, Mordecai was a Jew taken prisoner, Haman was the descendant of Agagite, and Agag was the king of Amalekites, who was the king of God's wrath because King Saul did not kill him. Amalekites has been between Israel and the enemy for generations because they targeted the people of Israel who were exhausted and left behind at the time of their Exodus. God said to destroy Amalekites in the world.
Haman, the supreme minister of King Ahasuerus, plans to exterminate the Jews. He said to the king, "There are people living like parasites in the world, so it would be good to destroy them at once." With the king's permission, he set a date to put it into practice. This news was a bolt out of the blue for the Jews all over Persia and Mordecai meets Esther. And we're going to talk about the same thing as the text today's scripture.
King Ahazuerus had one rule. If anyone step in front of the king without a call, he or she will live if the king raise the golden scepter, otherwise he or she will be killed on the spot. Esther, who was well aware of this, comes to the king with the mind of "if I perish, I perish." For the sake of the life of the Jews. After all, upon learning the truth, King Ahazuerus changed his order and destroyed Harman and all Amalekites on the day Haman tried to exterminate the Jews.
It is said that those who selected this book of Esther were worried about whether to include it in the cannon. The reason is that there is no mention of God in Esther's book and no religious appearance. At the same time, however, we agree that Esther's theme is 'God's sovereignty'. Like Esther, God does not reveal himself in our lives today. And it seems like we're only living our lives on our own without being taken away by certain acts of faith.
That's what Mordecai says. God eventually saves his people in some way, but how do you know that you are there because of this situation today? We also do not know in advance where God's will lies in the situation of life God gave us. And even if He has decided so, it is our desirable appearance to do our best to achieve God's will in the circumstances He has given me. Even if it's a case where you have to be prepared to die.
