  참 나는 ?  

몸이란 무었이며  어떤 것인가 생각하라 .

그에 의지해서 편함을 구하는 것은 가소로운 일이다 .

갖가지 망상과 질병 투성이 ,

이 모두가 참(眞)이 아님을 알아야 한다 .(법구경)

(見身形範  埼以爲安  多想致病 豈知非眞 )

    Who am I  ?

Look at this dressed-up lamp ,

covered with wounds ,

joined together .

sickly .

full of many thoughts .

which has no strength .

no hold !   (Dammapada)

 타인이 지니고 있는 고귀함을 보려고 하지 않는 인간은 타인의 표면적인 것에 불과한 천박함을 그만큼  더 예리하게  잡아낸다 .  그리고 그것으로 자기정체를 폭로한다.      -니이체

      ** 마음의 진정한 본질 - (수능엄경 )

 모든 사람은  본질적으로 청순한 마음을 지녔지만 각자가 처한 주변상황에서  생긴 욕망때문에 먼지와 부정물(不淨物) 처럼 더러워진다 .  이렇게 부정해진 심성은 그 사람의 본질적인 마음의 주인이 아니고 , 집에 찼안든 불청객이나 침입자 같은 것이다 .

      **True natural of  mind .

Fundamentally ,everyone  has a pure clean mind , but  it is usually covered by the defilement and dust of worldly desires whith have arisen from one's circumstances .

This defiled mind is not of the essence of one's nature : something has been added ,

like an intruder or even a guest in a home ,  but not its host

 구름은  자주 달을 가리지만 달을 움직이지 못하고  그 순수성을 훼손하지도 못한다 .  그러므로 사람은 부정해진 마음을 사람의 본성(本性)으로 차각하지 말아야 한다.

 The moon is often hidden by  clouds , but it is not moved by them and its purity  remains untarnished .  therefore , people must not be deluded into  thinking  that this defiled mind is their own true mind .

 사람은 언제나 이 사실을 잊지 말고 계속 노력해서 변치않는 순정(純情)을 일깨워 깨달음을 얻어야 한다 .  그렇게 하지 않으면 항상 변덕스럽고 부정한 마음에 사로잡히고 , 빛나간 생각의 현혹해 망상의 세계에서 방황한다 .

 They must continually remind themselves  of this fact by striving to awaken within themselves  the pure and unchang-ing fundamental mind of Enlightenment .  Being caught by a changing , defiled mind and being deluded by their own per-verted ideas,

they wander about in a world of delusion.

 불안하고 부정한 마음은 자신의 탐욕과 변덕스러운 주변상황에서 생긴다 .

 The disturbances and defilements of the human mind are aroused by greed as well as by its reactions to the changing circumstances .

 어떤 상황에서도 순수성과 평온을 유지하는 본성은 진정한 마음의 주체이다 .

The mind that is disturbed  by things as they occur, that remains pure and tranquil under all circumstances, is the true mind and should be the master .

 나그네가 없어졌다고 여인숙이 없어지지 않듯이 ,변하는 상황에서 생긴 부정한 마음이 사라진다고  참된 자아(自我)마저 없어지는 것이 아니다 .  상황에 따라 변하는 것은 마음의 본질이 아니기 때문이다 .

 We cannot say that an inn disappears just because the guest is out of sight ; neither can we say that the true self has disappeared when the defiled mind which has been aroused by the changing circumstances of life has disappeared.  That  which changes with  changing conditions is not the true nature of mind .    - suramgama-sutra.

** Karma

Karma is what you do and what you reap as a result .   If you stand tall and straight in the sunshine, then your shadow will be tall and straight .  If you slouch, then your shadow will

slouch .  If you create noble karma, then you will have a noble life but you create twisted karma, you ,ll lead a twisted life .
