Sunflower says to the Sun

Why always alone in the sky?

Aren't you feeling lonely!

Sunflower says to the Sun

Why don’t you come down here
And play together
And make a living together!!

The Sun answers then
You light up the Earth
I light up the Sky
Will the Whole World be bright!!!

Sunflower responds then
YOU'VE GOT A POINT THERE
Willing to light up the ground every moment

While talking to the Sun every day

Never lowering HER head
Never revealing any pain in HER neck

Appreciation Review

Sunflower consists of “sun + flower'“ in English. In Korean, it should be "sun + baragi," so its meaning is considered to be possibly different, depending on the interpretation of the word ’baragi.’ If you see 'baragi' as 'looking at', it means 'to look at', which can be interpreted as 'to follow.'

Likewise, this verse shows that Sunflower is obeying the words of the Sun. The Sunflower asks the Sun to come down to the ground, so that they can play together and make a living together. But the Sun says he can't. It is because the Sun has to light up the sky; the Sunflower has to light up the ground. So, since the Sunflower has to light up the ground according to the Sun's words, she cannot lower her head even for a moment. Also, even if her neck aches, she cannot stop doing her work. This is because she should follow the Sun's words to light up the ground. I guess that's HER DESTINY.

감상평

해바라기는 영어로 ‘sunflower = sun + flower’ 입니다. 우리말로는 ‘해바라기 = 해 + 바라기’ 이므로 ‘바라기’의 뜻에 따라 그 의미를 달리 볼 수 있습니다. ‘바라기’를 ‘바라보다’의 뜻으로 보면 ‘look at’의 의미가 되고, 이는 ‘follow’의 뜻으로 해석이 가능합니다.

이 시에서도 해바라기는 해님의 뜻에 따라 순종합니다. 해바라기는 해님에게 땅에 내려와서 같이 놀고, 같이 살자고 하지만, 해님은 그럴 수 없다고 말합니다. 해님은 하늘을 밝혀야 하고, 해바라기는 땅을 밝혀야하기 때문입니다. 그래서 해님의 뜻에 따라 땅을 밝혀야 하는 해바라기는 한순간도 고개를 숙일 수가 없습니다. 목이 아파도 고개를 숙일 수가 없습니다. 땅을 밝히라는 해님의 뜻을 따라야하기 때문입니다. 그게 해바라기의 숙명인가 봅니다.

“해님의 뜻을 따르겠습니다.”
