Over the weekend, the White House announced the nomination of my good friend Sung Kim to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Korea.
I think President Obama made a great choice. I’ve worked with Sung for years and I know him to be a talented diplomat who will work tirelessly to strengthen the U.S.-ROK relationship.

Many Koreans already know a lot about Ambassador Kim. As the U.S. Special Envoy to the Six-Party Talks, he’s come to Korea a number of times in the past few years. He also served as a diplomat at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul. Nevertheless, I hope Koreans will have the chance to get to know him better in the coming years.
Now, President Obama’s nomination will go to the U.S. Senate for confirmation. I look forward to a smooth confirmation process for Ambassador Kim.
