[Sept. 9] A district of Gwangju demand ‘relocation of a military airport,’ upon the falling incident of T-50 (a supersonic advanced trainer and light attack jet) on Aug. 28

The Voice of People reports on Sept. 9:
The Gwansan-gu of the Gwangju (district chief, Min Hyung-Bae) demanded the relocation of a military airport for the safety of citizens and pilot, in relation to the falling incident of T-50 that crushed in the vicinity of the military airport in Gwangju on Aug. 28.
The district stated in its ‘statement on the position on crush of T-50,’ that, “the accident this time made realize the point that hundreds of thousands of citizens daily bear the risk of large size tragic death… the [military airport] should be promptly relocated[..]

The T-50 belonging to the 1st combat fight unit of the ROK air force, crushed in the rice field in the vicinity of the ROK air force base in Seochang-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju city, around 2 pm, Aug. 28
By the accident, a squadron leader (34) and captain(35) died. They are known to be the instructors, and veteran pilots with more than 10 years’ career. It is known that the T-50 training plane has landed on around 1 pm for short-term maneuver training but got accident an hour later.
The T-50 is the next generation advanced training plane, co-developed by the Korea Aerospace Industries and Lockheed Martin with 2 trillion won [..] In the Aug. 28 incident, the trainer crushed on the rice field only 1 km distant from residential houses and close to large size building site zone, which could bring a giant incident.

Korea's first export of trainer jets
A pair of South Korean-made trainer jets the T-50i take off from an Air Force base in Sacheon, 437 kilometers south of Seoul, on Sept. 10, 2013 on their way to Indonesia as the country's first export of the supersonic aircraft. The Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. (KAI), the manufacturer of the jets, had signed a US$400 million contract with Indonesia in 2011 to export 16 of them.
