THE MOON

In paddies where the rice is new,
At night, the Moon comes shining through.

She tiptoes down with gentle grace,
To check each field, each planted place.

She peers into the water's gleam,
As if she’s walking through a dream.

She softly asks the glistening ground,
Are all the seedlings safe and sound?

The frogs come leaping with delight,
They hop upon her face so bright.

She’s mine She’s mine they loudly cry,
And croak and croak beneath the sky.

The Moon just smiles, so calm, so wide,
I don’t belong to one she sighed.
I shine for all, both near and far,
For frogs, and fields, and every star.

Then off she floats, so smooth, so high,
Across the fields and through the sky.

The frogs all croak in sad dismay,
Where did she go? She slipped away!

CROAK CROAK CROAK — they call once more,
Still dreaming of the Moon they adore.

모내기 끝낸 논

밤에 달이 논물 속으로 내려앉아

모내기가 잘되었는지

벼 포기를 만져 보면서 꼼꼼히 살펴보는데

개구리들이 서로

달을 올라타고 앉아

내 거다 내 차지다 하며

개굴개굴 개굴개굴

어림도 없지

나는 어느 누구의 것도 아니고

모두의 것이지 하며

달은 얼른 자리를 옮긴다

달이 논마다 다 살펴보고 돌아가면

개구리들이 모두

달이 어디로 갔는지 몰라 답답해하며

개굴개굴 개굴개굴
