Control of Respiration |

1. Respiratory centers |
| |
- |
in the brain stem |
- |
관련 center들의 rhythmical 조절
1) Medullary respiratory center |
① Rostral ventromedial medulla |
② Dorsal respiratory group (DRG) |
| |
- |
③ Ventral respiratory group (VRG) |
- |
2) Pons repiratory center |
- |
fine-tunning (normal, smooth inspiration and expiration) |
- |
check-and-balance system
① Pneumotaxic center |
- |
inspiratory neurons의 'switch off'을 돕는다. |
- |
the pneumotaxic center is dominant over the apneustic center
② Apneustic center |
- |
pneumotaxic center와는 반대로 inspiratory neurons의 'switch off'을 막는다.
2. Hering-Breuer reflex |
- |
negative feedback |
- |
tidal volume의 증가로 lung이 늘어나면, smooth muscle of airway 내부의 pulmonary stretch receptor가 작동하게 되고, 이것은 medulla center에 신호를 전달해서 inspiration neuron을 inhibition.
- |
3. Regulation of the magnitude of ventilation |
1) Arterial PO2
| |
① Peripheral chemoreceptor |
<carotid bodies and aortic bodies> |
- |
not senstive |
- |
② Central chemoreceptor |
- |
more important in linking changes in arterial PCO2 to compensatory adjustments in ventilation |
- |
located in the medulla in the vicinity of the respiratory center |
- |
monitor not CO2 itself but change of CO2-induced H+concentration in the brain extracellular fluid (ECF) that bathes them (BBB에 의해서 다른 source에서 만들어진 H+는 brain에 들어갈 수 없고 비극성인 CO2가 brain에 들어가서 H+를 만들어 낼 수 있기 때문이다.)
4. 조절 Mechanism |
Effect of increased arterial PCO2 on ventilation |
| |
Effect of increased arterial non-carbonic-acid-generated hydrogen ion on ventilation |

♣ Clinic :
- |
- |
apnea (무호흡증) : subconsciously transient cessation of ventilation with the expectation that breathing will resume spontaneously. |
- |
sleep apnea (수면 무호흡증) : during sleep, victims of sleep apnea stop breathing for a few seconds or up to one or two minutes. |
- |
