UAE presidents orders release of 263 prisoners

The UAE president has ordered the release of 263 inmates, both UAE nationals and expatriates, and the paying off of the their debts.

The Abu Dhabi Tawteen Council is to find proper jobs for the released nationals while expatriates are to be deported from the UAE.

The gesture is part of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's  interest in granting inmates the "opportunity to have a new start and mitigate the suffering of their families", news agency WAM reported.

The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution has received orders to immediately start procedures to release the inmates, WAM added.

Advisor Yousuf Saeed Al-Abri, Abu Dhabi's Acting Public Prosecutor, said: "In the UAE, the rule of law prevails on all those who live in it. The judicial system never hesitates to punish whoever is tempted to endanger the security of the country and citizens."
