대만해협을 통과한 푸젠함

푸젠함이 서태평양에서의 활동을 마치고 하이난다오에 귀항했다가 12월 16일 대만해협을 통과해 북상했네요. 대만 국방부장의 의견으로는 정비를 위해 상하이로 가는 것 같다고 합니다. 

지난 9월에도 대만해협을 통과한 것으로 보이지만 그 때는 대만 국방부가 별도로 언급하지 않았었네요. 데크가 비어있는데 항모비행단은 하이난다오의 기지에 두고 가나 봅니다.

대만 국방부에 따르면, 중국 인민해방군 해군의 최신 항공모함 푸젠함(CNS Fujian, 18번함)이 화요일 대만해협을 통과해 항해했다.
소셜미디어에 게시된 영상에는 푸젠함이 일요일에 하이난섬 싼야에 위치한 위린 해군기지를 출항하는 모습이 담겨 있다. 이 기지는 항공모함 산둥함(CNS Shandong, 17번함)의 모항이기도 하다. 대만 국방부는 푸젠함이 전날 대만해협을 통과하는 것이 관측된 이후인 수요일에 짧은 성명을 발표했다. 국방부는 중화민국 군이 해당 항해를 감시했으며, 비행갑판이 비어 있는 항공모함의 사진을 촬영했다고 밝혔다.
수요일 열린 국회 회의에서 웰링턴 쿠 대만 국방부장은 푸젠함이 정비를 위해 상하이 창싱다오에 위치한 조선소로 복귀하는 것으로 추정된다고 말했다. 쿠 장관은 또한 현재의 관측 결과로 볼 때 푸젠함의 이번 항해에는 군사적 사건이 동반되지 않은 것으로 보인다고 덧붙였다. 대만 국방부는 해당 항공모함에 호위 함정이 동반되었는지는 밝히지 않았다.
이번 화요일의 대만해협 통과는, 푸젠함이 11월 5일 취역한 이후 하이난섬 싼야의 위린 해군기지 모항을 떠난 두 번째 항해다.
국영 장난조선소에서 건조된 푸젠함은 취역을 앞두고 지난 9월 창싱다오를 출항해 하이난섬으로 향했다. 당시 일본은 항공모함이 대만해협에 접근하는 것을 추적했지만, 대만 국방부가 해당 항공모함의 해협 통과에 대해 언급하지 않았기 때문에, 푸젠함은 대만해협 내 중국 영해를 통해 항해한 것으로 여겨진다.
푸젠함이 정비를 위해 추정상 중국 북동부로 향하는 가운데, 이 항공모함은 항공모함 운용과 비행 인증을 위한 인민해방군 해군의 훈련 해역인 보하이만으로 항해할 가능성도 있다.
베이징이 보유한 다른 두 척의 항공모함인 랴오닝함(CNS Liaoning, 16번함)과 산둥함은 최근 12월에 수행한 배치 임무를 마치고 모두 모항으로 복귀했다. 두 항공모함은 올해 광범위하게 운용되었으며, 6월에는 일본 남서부 지역 인근에서 두 항공모함 전단이 동시에 작전하는 사례도 있었다.

산둥 항공모함 전단은 4월에 “해협 천둥 2025A(Strait Thunder 2025A)” 훈련의 일환으로 전개되었는데, 이는 인민해방군이 대만을 위협하기 위해 이틀간 실시한 훈련이었다.
랴오닝 항공모함 전단은 금요일에 일본 남서부 도서 주변에서 실시한 6일간의 순찰을 마무리했으며, 현재 산둥성 칭다오에 위치한 모항으로 복귀했다. 해당 순찰 기간 동안 랴오닝함은 탑재된 전투기와 헬리콥터를 총 260회 출격시켰다. 이 과정에서 일본은 랴오닝함의 J-15 전투기들이 인민해방군 해군 항공모함의 작전을 감시하던 일본 항공자위대(JASDF) F-15 전투기에 레이더를 조사했다며 항의했다.
중국은 임무부대를 추적하던 일본 구축함에 대해 비행 작전이 수행될 것이라는 통보가 이루어졌으며, 랴오닝함의 전투기들은 탐색 레이더만 사용했다고 주장했다. 또한 일본 항공기가 랴오닝함 전투기들이 훈련 중이던 공역에 진입해 훈련에 방해를 초래했다고 일본을 비난했다.
한편, 중국 공산당 기관지인 인민일보에 따르면 산둥 항공모함 전단은 남중국해에서 훈련을 실시했다. 이 관영 매체는 X에 산둥함이 올해 마지막 해상 훈련 임무를 완료하고 모항으로 복귀했다고 게시했다. 인민해방군 해군의 공식 소셜미디어 계정 역시 산둥함의 최신 훈련 영상이라고 밝힌 영상을 게시했다.
수요일은 산둥함 취역 6주년이 되는 날이었으며, 인민해방군 공식 소셜미디어 계정인 차이나 밀리터리 버글(China Military Bugle)은 이를 기념하는 영상을 게시했다.

New Chinese Carrier Fujian Sails Through the Taiwan Strait

The People’s Liberation Army Navy newest aircraft carrier CNS Fujian (18) sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Tuesday, according to Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense.

Videos posted to social media show Fujian departing Sunday from Yulin Naval Base, which is also the homeport of aircraft carrier CNS Shandong (17). Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense issued a short statement on Wednesday after Fujian was observed transiting the Taiwan Strait the previous day. The Republic of China Armed Forces monitored the transit, the ministry said and captured a photo of the carrier with an empty flight deck.

In a parliamentary session on Wednesday, Taiwan Defense Minister Wellington Koo said it was presumed that Fujian is returning to the shipyard at Changxing Island, Shanghai, for maintenance. Koo added that current observations suggest Fujian’s transit had no military event. Taiwan’s defense ministry did not say if the carrier was accompanied by escorting ships.

Tuesday’s Taiwan Strait transit marks the second time the carrier sailed out from its homeport of Yulin Naval Base, Sanya, Hainan Island, since its Nov. 5 commissioning.

Having been built by state-owned Jiangnan Shipyard, Fujian departed Changxing Island in September to head to Hainan Island for its eventual commissioning. At the time, Japan tracked the carrier approaching the Taiwan Strait but because Taiwan’s defense ministry made no mention of the carrier transiting the strait, it is believed Fujian transited through China’s territorial waters in the Taiwan Strait.

As Fujian heads to northeast China, presumably for maintenance, the carrier could also sail to Bohai Bay, which is a PLAN training area for carrier operations and flight certifications.

Beijing’s two other carriers, CNS Liaoning (16) and Shandong both recently returned to their homeports after conducting deployments in December. The two carriers were extensively deployed this year, including both carrier strike groups operating simultaneously around Japan’s southwest region in June.

The Shandong CSG deployed in April as part of exercise “Strait Thunder 2025A,” a two-day intimidation of Taiwan drill by the PLA.

The Liaoning CSG wrapped up a six-day patrol around Japan’s southwest islands on Friday and the carrier is now back at its homeport in Qingdao, Shandong province. During the patrol, Liaoning carried out a total of 260 sorties of its embarked fighters and helicopters with Japan protesting Liaoning’s J-15 fighters locking radar on Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) F-15s that were monitoring the PLAN carrier’s operations.

China argued that a Japanese destroyer shadowing the task group was notified that flight operations would be conducted and Liaoning’s fighter aircraft only utilized search radar. Beijing also accused the Japanese aircraft of entering the area where Liaoning’s fighters were training, causing disruption to the training.

Meanwhile, the Shandong CSG carried out training in the South China Sea, according to The People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party. The state media outlet posted on X that Shandong had completed its final sea training mission for the year and had returned to its homeport. The PLAN’s official social media account also posted a video of what it said to be the latest training footage of Shandong.

Wednesday marked the sixth anniversary of Shandong’s commissioning, and the PLA’s official social media account, China Military Bugle, posted a commemorative video for the anniversary.
