 Mom's Finish Line 

I have fought the good fight, 

I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 

— 2 Timothy 4:7

나는 선한 싸움을 싸우고 

나의 달려갈 길을 마치고 믿음을 지켰으니 

- 디모데후서 4:7

When Jeff learned that his mother’s health was rapidly declining, 

he immediately caught a plane to be with her.

 He sat at her bedside holding her hand, singing hymns, 

comforting her, and expressing his love for her. 

She passed away, 

and at her funeral many told Jeff what a blessing his mother had been. 

She was gifted in Bible teaching, counseling others, 

and leading prayer groups. T

hese were vital parts of serving Christ until near the end of her life. 

She finished strong for Christ.

To honor his mother’s life, 

Jeff participated in a 26.5 mile race. 

During the race he thanked God for her life and grieved her loss.

 When he crossed the finish line, 

Jeff pointed his index finger toward heaven—“Where Mom is,

” he said. She had honored Christ to the end, 

which reminded him of the words of the apostle Paul:

 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, 

I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, 

which the Lord ... will give to me on that Day”(2 Tim.4:7-8).

We are involved in a “long-distance race.

” Let’s run in such a way that we may obtain the prize of 

“an imperishable crown”(1 Cor.9:25). 

What could be more desirable than to finish strong for Christ

 and to be with Him forever.

제프는 어머니의 건강이 급속도로 악화되고 있다는 사실을 알고 나서, 

어머니의 곁에 있기 위해 곧바로 비행기에 몸을 실었습니다. 

그는 어머니의 침대 곁에서 그녀의 손을 잡고 찬송하며, 

어머니에 대한 사랑을 표현하며 위로했습니다. 어머니가 돌아가시고, 

장례식장에서 많은 사람들이 어머니의 삶은 진정 큰 축복이었다고 제프에게 말해주었습니다. 

그녀는 성경을 가르치는 것과 상담하는 것, 

그리고 기도모임을 이끄는데 은사가 있었습니다.

 이것들은 그녀의 인생이 거의 끝날 때까지 그리스도를 섬기는 중요한 부분들이었습니다. 그녀는 그리스도를 위해서 힘차게 살았던 삶을 마무리 지었습니다.

어머니의 삶을 기리기 위해 제프는 42킬로미터의 장거리 경주에 참가했습니다.

 뛰면서 그는 어머니의 삶에 대해 하나님께 감사하며, 

그녀의 죽음을 슬퍼했습니다. 결승점을 지나며 제프는 하늘을 향해 집게손가락을 들고 말했습니다.

 “저기가 어머니가 계신 곳이네

.” 인생의 마지막까지 그리스도께 영광을 돌렸던 어머니를 생각하며 그는 바울사도의 말을 떠올렸습니다. 

“나는 선한 싸움을 싸우고 나의 달려갈 길을 마치고 믿음을 지켰으니 

이제 후로는 나를 위하여 의의 면류관이 예비되었으므로 

주 곧 의로우신 재판장이 그 날에 내게 주실 것이며”(딤후 4:7-8).

“장거리 경주”에 참가하고 있는 우리는 

“썩지 아니할 관”(고전 9:25)의 상을 얻도록 경주해야 합니다. 

그리스도를 위해 힘차게 인생을 마무리한 후 주님과 영원히 함께 지내는 것보다

 더 바람직한 것이 어디 있을까요?

Run the straight race through God’s good grace,

Lift up your eyes and seek His face;

Life with its way before us lies,

Christ is the path and Christ the prize.

하나님의 선한 은혜를 통해 똑바로 뛰라

눈을 높이 들고 하나님의 얼굴을 찾으라

인생의 길이 우리 앞에 놓여 있으니

그리스도가 길이 되시며 상이 되시네

The Christian’s race is not a sprint

—it’s a marathon.

그리스도인의 경주는 단거리 경주가 아니라 마라톤이다.
