Ch'ongmyong, Kog-u
Ch'ongmyong, the third lunar subdivision, falls on the fifth or sixth of April by the solar
calendar, and Kog-u, the fifteenth day of the third lunar month, falls around April 20. On
Ch'ongmyong, farmers work their rice paddies by hoeing, mending paddy banks, plowing, and
starting seedlings. They also weed barley fields, sow vegetables, and spread manure and
compost. This is the time to prepare the year's supply of soy sauce and bean paste, breed
silkworms, and plant cotton. Fishermen are busy fishing for croaker in the Yellow Sea. Croaker
are particularly tender and juicy during this period.
