참부모경 - 422. 워싱턴타임스의 창간 배경과 주요 편집 방향

참부모님께서는 1982년 5월 17일 미국 워싱턴DC에서 종합일간신문 워싱턴타임스를 창간하셨다. 워싱턴타임스는 좌경 진보주의의 공세로부터 미국을 보호하는 보수언론을 지향하였다. 워싱턴타임스는 진보언론의 대표격인 워싱턴포스트와 함께 워싱턴 지역의 양대 일간지로서 미국 정부 정책에 대한 논평으로 명성을 얻었으며, 특히 1992년 4월 12일 김일성 주석과 단독 인터뷰를 하는 등 많은 특종으로 주목받았다. 그리고 워싱턴타임스 자매지로 1985년 종합월간지 <월드 앤 아이>와 시사주간지 <인사이트>를 창간하셨다.
 
1 미국이란 나라는 자유세계를 주도하고 있기 때문에 머리입니다. 이 머리가 마비되면 다 죽습니다. 그러니 할 수 없이 아버님은 세계 종말시대가 오면 어떻게 된다는 것을 알았기 때문에 이에 대처하기 위해서 남이 생각하지 않는 준비를 하지 않을 수 없었습니다. 그래서 워싱턴타임스를 만든 것입니다. 워싱턴DC에 있는 단 하나의 신문인 워싱턴포스트가 좌익 사상으로 물들어 있습니다. 그 신문을 매일같이 보는 사람들이 무엇이 되겠느냐는 것입니다. 그래서 5대 재벌들이 이것을 방어하기 위해 연합해서 신문사를 만들었지만 실패하고 말았습니다. 매달 많은 돈을 투입해야 되기 때문입니다. 그러지 않고는 워싱턴DC에서 진보적인 물결을 막을 수 없습니다. 보수적 사상지가 하나도 없다는 것입니다. 그 당시 미국에 1천700여 개의 신문이 있었지만 보수지, 하나님 편에 선 신문은 단 하나 워싱턴타임스밖에 없었습니다. 그러니 동서남북 사방에서 매일같이 새까만 밤중에 세계에 그들만이 서치라이트를 비추는 판국인데, 아닌 밤중에 보수의 등대가 웬 말이냐는 것입니다.
 
2 나를 반대하는 미국을 살리기 위해서 내가 워싱턴타임스를 만들었습니다. 그리고 미국의 앞날을 위해서 정당들을 교육하고 지도자들을 교육한 것입니다. 참사랑은 원수를 사랑하고도 남아야 된다는 것입니다. 그렇기 때문에 이 미국에 건국의 전통을 새롭게 세워야 하고, 이 나라의 국민이 충성하는 것 이상 충성해야 됩니다. 한국 사람인 내가 한국에 대해서 애국하는 이상의 애국심을 이 나라에 심지 않고는 하늘나라의 출범이 안 된다는 것입니다.
 
3 1945년 광복 이후부터 7년 기간에 하늘은 세계를 수습해서 메시아권 세계로 진출해야 되는데 사탄이 세계를 다 망쳐 놓았습니다. 한국을 갈라놓고, 독일을 갈라놓고, 전 세계를 둘로 쫙 갈라놓았습니다. 그래서 사탄 편이 우세해졌다는 것입니다. 그 가운데서 투쟁한 대표자가 아버님입니다. 미국에 들어가서 깃발을 날리고 소련과 위성국가에 제동을 건 것입니다. 소련이 저렇게 무너진 것은 고르바초프 때문이 아닙니다. 하늘의 뜻을 중심삼고 아버님이 워싱턴 타임스를 만들고 반공체제를 강화하여 세계적으로 제동을 가함으로써 소련이 꺾였다는 것입니다.
 
4 워싱턴타임스는 가정 파탄을 방지하고 도의적인 세계를 지향합니다. 그렇기 때문에 신문 편집에서도 ‘가정’이라는 특별 페이지를 만들어 유명해졌습니다. 그리고 통일교회는 워싱턴DC에서 세계적인 축복결혼행사를 거행하게 됩니다. 미국에서 이런 희소식이 어디에 있겠습니까? 외교 무대나 정치 무대에서 이름을 날리고 있는 사람들이 통일교회의 가정운동 앞에는 머리를 숙인다는 것입니다. 빈민은 빈민대로, 상류층은 상류층대로 여기에 관심을 갖고 있습니다. 미국에서 그 바람이 휩쓸어 태풍권 내에 들어가게 된다면 모든 과거사는 다 지나가고 새로운 봄이 찾아와 새싹이 나올 수 있는 시대를 맞는 것입니다. 그런 희망을 가지고 이런 일을 하고 있습니다.
 
5 워싱턴타임스가 미국을 살리는 데에 기수가 되어야 합니다. 언론인들을 비롯해 그 누가 반대하더라도 앞으로 제2의 헌법 개정을 통해 건국사상을 시정해야 됩니다. 헌법을 중심삼고 미국 국민이 하나 안 돼 있습니다. 그것 이상의 새로운 청교도 정신을 중심삼고 천국 백성의 헌법을 만들어야 된다는 것입니다. 기독교사상을 떠나서는 그 일을 할 수 없겠기 때문에 그런 발표를 해야 됩니다.
 
6 <월드 앤 아이>의 내용은 일반 신문기자들이 쓴 내용과 다릅니다. <월드 앤 아이>는 기사를 쓸 경우 미래에 대한 방향을 제시하는 것입니다. 그런데 일반 신문기자는 그런 것을 할 수 없습니다. 학자들의 방대한 지식을 통해서 ‘아시아의 상황은 이렇고, 아프리카의 상황은 이렇고, 미국의 상황은 이렇고, 유럽의 상황은 이러니까 이러한 결과가 된다.’라고 언론계를 미래 추구의 방향으로 몰고 가는 것입니다. 처음에는 그것을 몰랐지만 해가 지남에 따라서 그러한 방향으로 학자들이 의견을 모아 결론을 낸 모든 것이 그대로 되는 것입니다. 그래서 세계의 여러 정책 방면에 지대한 공헌을 해 온 것입니다.
 
7 유명한 학자들이 연구한 것들이 대학 도서관에서 잠자고 있습니다. 그러니 세계 인류 앞에 얼마나 손해입니까? 그것을 즉각적으로 발표해서 모든 지식인들이 활용할 수 있게 해야 됩니다. 세계적인 연구자료는 만민의 것입니다. 특정한 학교의 도서관 구석에만 보관할 것이 아닙니다. 그것을 1985년 11월 국제과학통일회의 때 선포하였습니다. 지금 82개국에 세계평화교수협의회가 편성되어 있어서 수만 명의 학자가 연결되어 있습니다. 그러니 학자들은 3개월에 한 번씩 원고를 보내는 것입니다. 자기가 소속된 전문 분야의 계열에서 연구한 것, 세계문제를 해결하는 데 도움이 될 수 있는 모든 자료들을 즉각 워싱턴타임스의 <월드 앤 아이>편집부로 보내는 것입니다. 이 잡지를 내가 1985년 12월부터 시작하였습니다. 그래서 첨단을 달리는 세계의 모든 석학들이 기고하기 때문에 교육계에서 이를 즉각적으로 가르쳐야 됩니다. 첨단시대에 세계의 석학들을 묶어 방향성을 제시하여 전진하지 않고는 세계가 망합니다. 그것은 미국에 있는 어떤 학자, 어떤 언론인도 꿈에도 생각하지 않은 것입니다.
 
8 내가 미국과 법정투쟁을 하는 테이블 위에서 워싱턴타임스 창간 자금을 결재하였습니다. <인사이트>와 <월드 앤 아이>도 만들었습니다. 미국을 살려 주겠다고 그 일을 한 것입니다. 아버님이 미국을 책임진 자리에 섰다는 것을 알아야 합니다. 미국을 보호하는 자리에 섰다는 것입니다. 아무리 철옹성 같은 비애의 관문이 닥치더라도 그것을 밟고 넘어서기 위한 책임자로서의 사명과 소임을 다하였습니다. 중심존재는 책임을 져야 합니다. 또 보호의 책임이 있습니다. 미국을 보호해야 되고 그다음에는 지도해야 됩니다. 자유세계의 수많은 국가의 운명이 여기에 달려 있기 때문입니다.
 
9 워싱턴타임스는 시사 해설을 통해 미국이 공산주의에 대처할 수 있도록 방향을 잡아 주고, (인사이트)는 매일 국회의원들이 발언하는 것을 백 퍼센트 통계를 내어 발표합니다. 어느 국회의원이 무슨 말을 했다고 하는 것을 매주 소개합니다. 그리하여 국회의원의 좌익 발언과 국가에 해가 되는 발언을 방지하는 것입니다. 그리고 <월드 앤 아이>는 세계 유명 학자들을 중심삼고 분야별로 미래의 방향성을 잡아 주고 미국이 가야 할 방향을 지도해 나오고 있습니다. 이리하여 하나의 세계로 가게끔 노력하고 있습니다.

真の父母様は、一九八二年五月十七日、アメリカのワシントンDCで総合日刊新聞「ワ シントン・タイムズ」を創刊された。「ワシントン・タイムズ」は、左翼系進歩主義の攻勢からアメリカを保護する保守言論を目指した。「ワシントン，タイム ズ」は、進歩派の言論の代表格である「ワシントン・ポスト」と共に、ワシントン地域の二大日刊紙として、アメリカ政府の政策に対する論評により名声を得 た。特に一九九二年四月十二日、金日成主席に単独インタビューを行うなど、多くのスクープによって注目を浴びた。また、「ワシントン・タイムズ」の姉妹誌 として真の父母様は、一九八五年に総合月刊誌「ワールド・アンド・アイ」と時事週刊誌「インサイト」を創刊された。
 
1     アメリカという国は、自由世界を主導しているので頭です。この頭が麻痺すれば、すべて死にます。ですから、仕方なく、お父様は世界の終末時代が来ればどう なるかを知ったので、これに対処するために、ほかの人が考えないような準備をせざるを得ませんでした。それで、「ワシントン・タイムズ」をつくったので す。
ワシントンDCにある、たつた一つの新聞である「ワシントン・ポスト」は、左翼思想に染まっています。その新聞を毎日のように見る人々は、どのよう になるかというのです。それで、五大財閥がこれを防ぐために連合して新聞社を造りましたが、失敗してしまいました。毎月、多くのお金を投入しなければなら ないからです。そのようにしなければ、ワシントンDCで進歩的な波を防ぐことはできません。
保守的な思想の新聞が一つもないというのです。その当時、アメリカに千七百以上の新聞がありましたが、保守紙、神側に立つた新聞は、(ワシントン DCでは)ただ一つ、「ワシントン・タイムズ」しかありませんでした。ですから東西南北の四方で、真っ暗な夜中の世界に、彼らだけが毎日のようにサーチラ イトを照らしている局面なのですが、不意に保守の灯台が現れるとはどういうことかというのです。
 
2     私に反対するアメリカを生かすために、私は「ワシントン・タイムズ」をつくりました。そして、アメリカの将来のために政党を教育し、指導者たちを教育した のです。真の愛は、怨讐を愛して余りあるものでなければならないというのです。ですから、このアメリカに建国の伝統を新たに立てなければならず、この国の 国民が忠誠を尽くす以上に忠誠を尽くさなければなりません。韓国人である私が、韓国を愛する以上の愛国心をこの国に植えなければ、天の国の出帆ができない というのです。
 
3     一九四五年の光復以後から七年間で天が世界を収拾し、メシヤ圏世界に進出しなければならないのですが、(キリスト教の不信により)サタンが世界をすべて滅 ぼしました。韓国を引き裂き、ドイツを引き裂き、全世界を二つに引き裂きました。そうして、サタン側が優勢になったというのです。その中で闘争した代表者 がお父様です。アメリカに行き、旗をなびかせて、ソ連と衛星国家にブレーキをかけたのです。ソ連があのように崩れたのは、ゴルバチョフのゆえではありませ ん。天のみ旨を中心として、お父様が「ワシントン・タイムズ」をつくり、反共体制を強化して世界的にブレーキをかけることによって、ソ連が敗れたというの です。
 
4     「ワシントン・タイムズ」は、家庭破綻を防止し、道義的な世界を目指しています。ですから、新聞の編集でも「家庭」という特別なぺージを設けて有名になり ました。また、統一教会は、ワシントンDCで世界的な祝福結婚の行事を挙行します。アメリカでこのような喜ばしい知らせがどこにあるでしょうか。
外交の舞台や政治の舞台で名声をはせている人々が、統一教会の家庭運動の前には頭を下げるというのです。貧民は貧民なりに、上流層は上流層なりに、 ここに関心をもっています。アメリカでその風が吹き荒れ、台風圏内に入るようになれば、すべての過去の出来事は過ぎ去り、新しい春が訪ねてきて、新芽が出 てくる時代を迎えるのです。そのような希望をもって、このようなことをしているのです。
 
5     「ワシントン・タイムズ」が、アメリカを生かす旗手にならなければなりません。言論人たちをはじめ、誰が反対しても、今後、第二の憲法改正を通して、建国思想を是正しなければならないのです。
憲法を中心として、アメリカ国民が一つになっていません。新しいピューリタン精神を中心として、それ以上の天国の民の憲法をつくらなければならないというのです。キリスト教思想を離れては、それをすることができないので、そのような発表をしなければなりません。
 
6     「ワールド・アンド・アイ」の内容は、一般の新聞記者たちが書いた内容とは異なります。「ワールド・アンド・アイ」は、記事を書く場合、未来に対する方向 を提示するのです。ところが、一般の新聞記者は、そのようなことはできません。学者たちの膨大な知識を通して、「アジアの状況はこうであり、アフリカの状 況はこうであり、アメリカの状況はこうであり、ヨーロッパの状況はこうだから、このような結果になる」と、言論界を未来追求の方向に導いていくのです。
最初はそれが分かりませんでしたが、年がたつにつれて、そのような方向に学者たちが意見を集め、結論を出したすべての内容が、そのまま実現されます。ですから、世界の様々な方面の政策に多大な貢献をしてきたのです。
 
7     有名な学者たちが研究したことが、大学の図書館に埋もれています。ですから、世界の人類にとってどれほど損害でしょうか。それを即刻発表し、すべての知識人たちが活用できるようにしなければなりません。
世界的な研究資料は万民のものです。特定の学校の図書館の隅にのみ保管すべきものではありません。それを一九八五年十一月、「科学の統一に関する国 際会議」の時に宣布しました。今、八十二ヵ国に「世界平和教授アカデミー」が編成されており、数万人の学者が連結されています。ですから、学者たちは、 三ヵ月に一度ずつ原稿を送るのです。自分が所属する専門分野の系列で研究したもの、世界の問題を解決するに当たって役に立ち得るすべての資料を、即刻「ワ シントン・タイムズ」の「ワールド・アンド・アイ」編集部に送るのです。この雑誌を私が一九八五年十二月から始めました。そうして、先頭を走る世界のすべ ての碩学たちが寄稿するので、教育界でこれを即刻、教えなければなりません。時代の先端で、世界の碩学たちを束ねて方向性を提示して前進しなければ、世界 が滅びます。それは、アメリカにいるどの学者、どの言論人も、夢にも考えなかったことです。
 
8     私は、アメリカと法廷闘争をするテーブルの上で、「ワシントン・タイムズ」を創刊する資金の決裁をしました。「インサイト」と「ワールド・アンド・アイ」 もつくりました。アメリカを生かすために、これらのことをしたのです。お父様がアメリカに責任をもつ立場に立ったことを知らなければなりません。アメリカ を保護する立場に立ったというのです。いくら金城鉄壁のような悲哀の関門が迫ってきても、それを踏み越えるための、責任者としての使命と任務を全うしまし た。中心存在は、責任を負わなければなりません。また、保護する責任があります。アメリカを保護しなければならず、その次には、指導しなければなりませ ん。自由世界の数多くの国家の運命が、ここにかかっているからです。
 
9     「ワシントン・タイムズ」は、時事解説を通して、アメリカが共産主義に対処できるように方向を示してあげ、「インサイト」は、国会議員たちが日々発言する 内容に関して一〇〇パーセント、統計を出して発表します。どの国会議員がどのようなことを言ったかを、毎週紹介するのです。そうして、国会議員の左翼的な 発言と国家にとって害になる発言を防止するのです。そして、「ワールド・アンド・アイ」は、世界の有名な学者たちを中心として、分野別に未来の方向性を示 してあげ、アメリカが進むべき方向を指導しています。このようにして、一つの世界に進めるように努力しているのです。

On May 17,1982, True Parents founded The Washington Times, a daily newspaper in Washington, DC. It is a conservative newspaper, striving to protect America from the misguided elements of leftist thought. As one of the two major newspapers in Washington, DC, the other being The Washington Post, which tends to represent the liberal viewpoint, The Washington Times built its reputation through its commentaries on United States government policies, over which it had extensive influence. Also, in 1985, two sister publications of The Washington Times were launched: The World & I, a monthly magazine, and Insight, a weekly newsmagazine.
 
1 America is like the head because it leads the free world. If the head becomes dysfunctional, everything will die. Since I knew what would happen to the world in the Last Days and had to deal with it, I had no choice but to make preparations that no one else had thought about. That is why I founded The Washington Times. The Washington Post, which was the only newspaper in Washington, DC, was contaminated by leftist ideology. What becomes of people who read this newspaper every day? In order to ameliorate that, five conglomerates came together and tried to establish a new newspaper, but they failed. This is because a lot of money has to be invested into it every month.

Without a conservative paper, there was no way to mitigate the liberal wave in Washington, DC. There was no newspaper there that presented a God-centered conservative viewpoint. At that time, there were 1,700 newspapers in America, but The Washington Times came to be the only newspaper standing on God's side. Therefore, The Washington Times was the only one to shine a searchlight to the north, south, east and west into a world lost in the dark of night. 2 I founded The Washington Times in order to save America, the very nation that has been opposing me. Furthermore, I guided political parties and leaders for the sake of America's future. True love involves loving your enemy and still having more love to give. Therefore, the founding traditions of America have to be established anew, and we need to show even greater loyalty to this nation than its own citizens do. 3 During the seven-year period after Korea's independence in 1945, heaven was supposed to gather together the world and advance into the messianic realm, but instead Satan destroyed the entire world. He divided Korea, Germany, and the whole world into two. That is how Satan's side became dominant. I am a representative who battled that world. I came to America, raised a flag and put a stop to the Soviet Union and the communist bloc. Gorbachev was not the one who made the Soviet Union collapse the way it did. 4 The Washington Times strives to prevent the breakdown of families and aims for a moral world. That is why we have become famous for publishing a special "Family" section in the newspaper. The Unification Church hosted the International Holy Marriage Blessing in Washington, DC. Where else in America can you hear such good news? Those who have made a name for themselves on the stage of international relations or politics will hold great respect for the Unification Church's family movement. Both rich and poor are interested in this movement in their own ways. If this wind sweeps across America and reaches the level of a typhoon, all of history will pass away, a new spring will come, and new buds will bloom. Holding on to this hope, I carry out this work. 5 The Washington Times must become a standard-bearer in America's revival. Even if we receive opposition, including from journalists, we have to perfect the founding ideology through a constitutional amendment. The constitution has not yet brought Americans into a perfect union. Centering on a new Puritan spirit even greater than the first, we must create a constitution for the people of the kingdom of heaven. 6 The articles found in The World & I are different from those written by regular newspaper journalists. When The World & I publishes an article, it makes suggestions for the future direction we should take, and regular newspaper journalists are unable to do this. Through the vast knowledge of the contributing scholars, we say, "This is Asia's situation, this is Africa's situation, this is Americas situation, this is Europe's situation; therefore, here are the results that are going to come." Thus, The World & I steers the media in the direction of the future. We did not necessarily expect this, but as the years went by, all the predictions and results envisioned by these scholars came to pass. 7 The research done by famous scholars is sleeping in university libraries. This is such a loss for humankind. These research papers should be presented immediately, so that they can be accessed by all educated people. These research materials belong to all humankind. They are not just to be stored in certain university libraries. I declared this at the ICUS in November, 1985. As of now, the PWPA has been established in 82 nations, so many scholars belong to this organization. These scholars send in manuscripts every three months. They immediately send their research in various fields and all the materials that can help resolve the world's problems to the editorial department of The World & I magazine.

I started that magazine in December 1985. Because many great scholars from throughout the developed world are contributing to it, educational institutions need to teach this content. Without gathering the world's great scholars as a vanguard, having them propose a new direction, and then moving forward, the world will come to ruin. 8 In the midst of my legal battle with the American government, I approved the funds necessary to launch The Washington Times. I also created Insight and The World & I magazines. I did that in order to revive America. You need to know that I stood in the position to take responsibility for America and to protect America. Even though I faced a barrier of sorrow like an impenetrable fortress, I accomplished my mission and duty to step forward and go over that barrier. The central figure has to take responsibility and protect the nation. I stood in the position to protect America and lead America. Insight magazine publishes 100 percent of the votes cast by all members of the US Congress each day on proposed legislation. Every week we publish exactly how the senators and representatives voted, exposing their positions regarding proposals that are leftist or otherwise harmful to the nation. Lastly, based on contributions by the world's eminent scholars, The World & I is guiding the future direction people need to take in different fields, as well as the direction that America needs to take.
