잠수함 북한의 SSB 공개

9월 6일 북한의 SSB가 공개됐습니다. 함번은 841이고, 구닥다리 R급을 개조했는데, 세일을 잡아늘려 확보된 공간에 탄도미사일용으로 추정되는 발사관 4개와 그보다 작은, 순항미사일용으로 추정되는 발사관 6개가 달려있네요.

발사관 직경이 궁금해지네요. 어느 정도 크기의 미사일들이 실릴 수 있을 지.. 북극성 계열 탄도미사일은 길이 9.7m~10.6m, 직경은 1.5~1.8m라고 합니다.

North Korea’s New Submarine Carries 10 Nuclear Missiles

North Korea has revealed it's latest submarine, a "tactical nuclear attack submarine". The new submarine has been named "Hero Kim Gun-ok" and given the hull number 841. Our analysis indicates that it will be armed with ten missiles.

Kim Jong Un was present for the launch of the North Korean Navy’s (KPN) latest submarine on September 6. The new submarine is actually a rebuilt Soviet-designed Romeo Class boat, but radically modernized. It has been named “Hero Kim Gun-ok” (김군옥영웅) and given the hull number 841.

Significantly, the submarine has a missile compartment added with 10 missile tubes. Given the Hermit Kingdom’s investment in ballistic missiles, it is likely that these are nuclear capable.

Romeo-Mod Submarine

The modification to the Romeo class submarine is so extensive that it almost appears to be a new boat. The new missile compartment, with two rows of five missile hatches, is in a section built into the sail. The bow has been shortened, reshaped and the diving planes moved to the sail.

We can speculate that the missiles are the Pukguksong family of submarine launched ballistic missiles. These are between 9.7 and 10.6 meters long and 1.5 and 1.8 meters in diameter depending on the exact version. The missile hatches however appear smaller, either for a shorter ranged ballistic missile first seen in October 2021, or for a cruise missile. North Korea has recently shown the ‘Hwasal-2′ cruise missile which approximates the U.S. Navy’s famous Tomahawk weapon.

From an initial analysis of the available imagery, it is also possible that the leading four missile tubes are a larger diameter than the rear six. This would imply a mixed load of four Pukguksong missiles and six of a smaller type.

Because of the way that the submarine has been reshaped it is possible that it lacks any torpedo tubes in the bow. If there are torpedo tubes, they will be at the expensive of the crew spaces.

The aft section of the diesel submarine remains unchanged. Although it is likely nuclear armed, it is not a ‘nuclear submarine’ which refers to the propulsion.

This submarine may the same one which was shown being rebuilt in July 2019. That submarine, termed Sinpo-C, was at the time the under construction at the same shipyard where this boat was launched. However the new boat is significantly different from that one. So it may either represent an extensive redesign, or a different conversion. One hypothesis is that the first Romeo submarine conversion, armed with three Pukguksong missiles, was not successful. And that this boat represents the latest thinking, emphasizing more yet smaller missiles.

It is too soon to complete a full analysis. Naval News will be watching this space carefully to determine the full capabilities of this new submarine.

이렇게 생긴 녀석이네요. 골프처럼 함교에 발사관 세 개가 들어있네요.

아마도 큰 발사관 4개는 북극성, 작은 발사관 6개는 순항보다는 이스칸데르 수중발사했던 소형 SLBM이 들어갈 듯 합니다. 순항미사일은 어차피 어뢰 발사관 쓰면 되서. : )

북극성 직경이 1.5~1.8m라고 하는데, 골프급은 저거보다 직경이 같거나 작은 R-21을 한 줄로 함교에 세 발 넣는게 고작이었죠. 저걸 두 줄로 넣었다면 로미오를 굉장히 대형화시켰다는 얘긴데, 사람들과 크기를 비교해보면 그렇게 커진 것 같진 않고.. 어떤 미사일이 들어갈 지가 정말 궁금해집니다.
