<Morning Words>   End of year stress! You know in the United States, they say that the stress between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law is probably ranked no. 1 among the list of end of year stress problems. Here in Korea people say that by the end of the year, they sometimes feel stress because they feel like during the whole year what did I do?   Strike up: the word strike itself had many different meanings, however to ‘strike up’ too means actually start or to create something, start > (대화, 관계 등) 시작하다   Chalk up: in the old days in the classroom has a black board, later the green board, and if you wanted to write something on the board, for example keep score, you’d use a piece of chalk, you’d make a simple line on the board and that would be to make a mark showing score, so ‘to chalk up something’ is to make a mark or to record something, keep a score > 점수를 얻다, 따다   Botch up: kind of a negative word, ‘to botch up something’ is to ruin it, to break it or to make a mistake, mess up > (서투른 솜씨로) 망치다   Ex)   Jonathan can strike up a conversation with anybody > Jonathan은 누구와도 대화를 시작할 수 있어 Giving her flowers might chalk up some points > 그녀에게 꽃을 주면 점수를 좀 딸 수 있을 거야   If they botch up my order, I’m not paying > 그 사람들이 내가 주문한 걸 또 망쳐버리면 난 돈 안 낼 거야   <More Expressions>   Go on strike: quit working intentionally > 파업하다 Chalk out: outline, explain the main point > 윤곽을 그리다, 개요를 설명하다 Make a botch of something: mess up with something > ~을 망치다   Ex) If we don’t have a contract by tomorrow, we’ll go on strike > 내일까지 계약이 체결되지 않으면 파업을 하겠어   She chalked out the details of the plan > 그녀가 계획의 구체적인 내용을 대략 설명했어 The rain made a botch of the picnic > 비 때문에 소풍을 망쳤어 <John’s Recapitulations>   Funny Story!
