Princess!
Human desire for domination is strong enough to want to be
God on its own. This is because the sense of omnipotence from
power makes them mistake themselves for God. However, power
without God is nothing but a monster that swallows humans,
destroying itself and others. What is Abimelech's lesson?
-
Gideon was the son of a concubine. Compared to the 70 brothers
born by Mrs. Jeongsil, it is disadvantageous to occupy power and
wealth. So he goes to his mother's hometown of Shechem and
persuades her why she should be king, but maliciously
exaggerates the disadvantages they will face if they do not.
-
He distorted his 70 brothers as if they were already king, and even
called his father's name "Yeorub Babel (the one who quarreled with
Baal) to stimulate the Baal worshipers, the Segem relatives. Not
only did he not recognize God, the only king, but he was also a
man who tried to become a king by falsely inciting him.
-
Shechem agrees with Abimelech's persuasion. They were not
conscious of God, who was king of Israel, and only thought of the
discriminatory benefits that returned to them when relatives became
king. It was not done only by either impulse. Each other's desires
were united.
-
I don't care that God doesn't want the king to be built.
He expressed his intention to support the Temple of Baalbrit with
70 silver pieces, and Abimelek buys a prodigal and frivolous
mercenary with it. It is clear that those who do not know God.
What he believed was 'power'. Armed with mercenaries, Abimelek
goes to his father's house and kills 70 brothers.
-
No matter how many half brothers they are, aren't they brothers?
He is a perennial water that has abandoned humanity for the
military power God has not allowed. Isn't it cruel? There was no
need for God's approval. He believed in his own power. They live
like people who think no one can evaluate themselves.
-
It was believed that the winner made history. But in the meantime,
one out of 70 people lived Yodam. Abimelek won, but not all of
them. He wouldn't have known what one thing he couldn't win would
mean in his life. You wouldn't have known that the gaps and cracks
were room for God to work beyond all human strength and wisdom.
-
Do you know the reason Abimelech slaughtered
70 brothers was to become king?
What is my selfish ambition?
Don't you ever want to be a king yourself?
Have you ever bought frivolous milk to keep me?
Do I know the importance of what I'm entrusted with?
Are you making God and people into a movie?

If power is well used, it saves the people from oppression and
leads them to peace, but uncontrolled power reveals violence
and drives the community into crisis. Lord, please exclude
Abimelech from my heart and rule over me. May God's rule
disappear from this land and protect us from becoming our
own kingdom.
