We are very close friends, and most of all we are spiritual friends that have been practicing and supporting each other for 16 years. We have come to ShweOo Min three and four times respectively.
Earlier Vipassana practice has been a good ground and when meeting Sayadaw U Tejaniya we both experienced how the understanding deepened.
Sayadaw’s way of teaching the Dharma has made it possible for the practice to be integrated into all aspects of life.
His emphasis on the importance of cultivating wisdom through continuous awareness (sati) has taken practice and understanding further, beyond what we thought available for us.
Sayadaw’steaching style and clarity has made it possible to think that there is a living path to liberation for everyone that embarks on the journey.
2. Florian Chapon
I tried different techniques with different teachers and had really good experiences. But at the end of a retreat I always found it difficult to apply what I learned. It seems like there were two worlds: the meditation center and ‘real life.’ So when I heard of a teacher who had developed and used a meditation technique while living as a lay person in ‘real life,’ I thought I should give it a try. I’ve been practicing here for 8 weeks and learned more here than anywhere else. The emphasis is on developing awareness moment-to-moment without focusing. Constantly checking the mind and the awareness has allowed me to quickly recognize these old patterns that have haunted me for so long. Also, the fact that there is no schedule and that we practice talking meditation makes it harder to develop samadhi, but when samadhiis established it feels more stable and natural than a samadhi developed in a strict and silent environment. It is the kind of samadhi that we could take home with us.
I cannot see myself living without awareness anymore. Every day I learn a little bit more about my mind.
3. Chris Santos, Joanne Chittenden, Eliot
Chris has been coming to ShweOo Min for ten years but this was the first family visit. The community was very welcoming and Eliot had his uncle and two other friends to play with. He also received lots of sweets and cake from nuns and other practitioners.
Practice was divided between being with Eliot, time with AshinTejaniya, and the Dhamma Hall. It worked very well and we all benefitted.
4. SISTER KOVIDA
is a senior solitary nun in the Thai forest tradition of Ajahn
Chah. She was resident at Amaravati and Chithurst monasteries for 18 Years, and has been teaching for seven years. She has also spent extended periods of time with the Burmese teacher Sayadaw U Tejaniya.
Awareness is seeing the nature of body and mind. Rather than judging and trying to fix our minds, it is witnessing mental states, thoughts, perceptions, and emotional reactions and seeing how these perpetuate each other. By not rejecting or being drawn in we experience how awareness deepens and direct understanding of the nature of our minds arises.

After about 12 years of meditation practice as a layperson, I have finally stepped into monkhood since two months now. How is it different to practice as a monk, a friend asked me?
In general, I find it acts as a high grade fuel for the practice. Once you get passed the awkward phase of learning how to wear the robes(without them falling off!) and getting familiar with the monastic code of conduct(227 rules), then this lifestyle is very conducive to deepen the practice. For one, you feel closer to the Buddha: living in a similar way he and his disciples did two and half millinea ago. This gives a significant boost of inspiration and energy. Also, the rules help to protect your conduct and keep the mindfulness in gear. But the most touching and humbling experience for me is going on ''alms round'' to collect food offerings in the village every morning. Why? It's simply amazing to receive so much support from the villagers. Most offer rice, some curries or sweets while others stand with joined hands or offer bows at every passing monk. From the old crimple to the barely walking toddler, all join in this beautiful expression/celebration of generosity, faith and mutual respect. As renunciates, we cannot offer much in return on a materialistic level but we can give ourselves wholeheartedly to this practice of meditation, purifying and cultivating the mind to it's highest potential. This precious gift or ''map to liberation'' handed down from the Buddha and from generation to generation is truly a priceless teaching.
In this context it is easy to see how feelings of gratitude naturaly arise in the mind and the desire to practice is strong and healthy. So for the next 10 months(maybe more), I will practice here at ShweOo Min and other affiliate centers in Burma. Beyond this, the practice will certainly go on. Like our teacher (U tejaniya) says: ''this is a marathon, not a sprint race''. With this attitude in mind, I will keep walking(not running) on this path of understanding, liberation and true happiness.
May you all be happy :)
and experience this wonderful land of Dhamma (Burma)!

I am a long term practitioner who has struggled with alcoholism, drug addiction, eating disorders, depression, and social anxiety. 12 step programs, counseling, workshops, friends and family have been a great help over the years. Though these have allowed me to succeed in a conventional sense, on their own they were not quite enough. I found that only after adding a deep and sustained meditation practice to these other important elements that I have been able to make progress in my inner world as well and find relief from depression and anxiety.
My time at ShweOo Min has been a valuable part of that journey. One of the greatest challenges I’ve faced was not just feeling the feelings themselves but dealing with my overwhelming fears about my feelings and thoughts, the obsessive desire to change myself into the self I thought I should be, and a pervasive sense of confusion about what is real and wholesome in myself and the world around me. These factors have always lead me to retreat from the world or to try or to live in a world of ideas rather than being with things from the truth of experience. The practice at ShweOo Min of opening my eyes to the world with the understanding that this life experience is a series of interconnected life processes, being present to my actual experience as it unfold, and cultivating the stability needed to investigate what is happening has allowed me untangle, heal, and find a greater degree of peace and freedom.
