Taking care of FBAR

In the early September I found that I have to submit annual FBAR (Foreign Bank Account Report) to IRS which I have not done for last several years due to my ignorance.

(I have a bank account in Korea for mission support and only knew FATCA which is not applicable for me yet.)

It stressed me so much but eventually took care of the FBAR myself with a couple of very precious assistances from experts for free.

Many thanks to them.

Also realized that having reliable internet connection that I have been using for last couple of years is a necessity nowadays.

Trip to New Jersey in Mid/Latter September

Meeting my own families is always good and thankful.

But travel is stressful certainly.

Four or more hours from home to the boarding gate including parking my pickup truck in the East Economy Long Term Parking Space in Sky Harbor International Airport, Phoenix.

On the way back home, we shopped in Korean market and Costco in Phoenix area.

So, we arrived at home almost midnight, took care of the stuff for an hour, and slept at 2:00am.

The day after- Friday, we did the market ministry.

Having Guests after the Trip Above

Next week Monday, we had a small group of visitors and had time together until their departure on Tuesday morning.

Having visitors is our chance to set up our place and ourselves to be presentable to them out of our own humbling routines.

We physically pretty much isolated most of the time but we found that we are connected spiritually always with those as some visitors commit their time and physical presence up to here to be with us.

I took down the upper bunk bed with their help for their stay and also for my need.

And we had a short but good time together.

Rearranging the Rooms After the Guests

After their departure on Tuesday morning, I switched rooms 2 and 3.

I had to dissemble and assemble a very heavy queen size bed and a very heavy bunk bed set to switch them room to room through the doors.

It was challenging job since they are big and heavy but felt good afterward as much as challenging.

Now my study room- #2 is bigger than #3 without any lose of functionality.

Throw the chairs and metal frame out

The next day, on Wednesday, we took out all those chairs and metal frames, that we had taken out of the bus in the process of converting the bus to our mobile clinic, from the free-rented space in the Presbyterian Church on their request.

It was a big help to have the Tuba City Recycle Station (garbage dump station) in the town free of charge.

(They accept not only regular garbage but also big objects like furniture & etc. and metals free of charge. In other chapters they usually pay for their bags of garbage.)

Thanks to the Chapter for serving community in such a way like this.

Of course it was a challenging labor but I and my wife did it as usual.

Lingering mental stress all gone now after some physical labor.

Submitting Non-Profit Organization Annual Report

On Wednesday afternoon, October 1, I submitted the Non-Profit Organization Annual Report for Christian Life Ministry and First People Youth Academy to the State of Arizona on line.

It is mostly a report of Board Members and Leader's information, mostly confirm‎ing the previous information if no change happened.

But it used to be a very challenging when I didn't have the internet connection.

I had to go to a local non-profit organization office to use their internet to do these similar things with governmental agencies.

It is not complicated except some log in errors which had been taken care of by the help over the phone.

Not to forget the due date and doing it on time might be challenge for a lazy guy like me.

But in the midst of many things, I managed myself to finish it as it is supposed to be done.

Sometimes mundane can be not-mundane anymore if it went wrong.

Bring the stuff from the church space to my back yard

On Thursday, we moved our many kinds of stored stuff in the Presbyterian Church space to my back yard.

(We have back yard, 20X20', and decked and covered half of it where we used to play ping pong there.)

It is our chance to do some inventory to figure out which to keep and get rid of.

It's messy there now but we secured some time to work on it for better future to go on.

Not being able to play ping pong is not a big deal while using the space such a way in needed time.

Yes, we have done it.

Dissembling and Removing storage structure

On Monday, the Korean Harvest Festival; Choo Seok, we dissembled the storage space in the Church: many 2X3, some 2X4, and 8 of 4X8, 1/2" pressed plywoods from 2 sides of 8X12' space.

It was very, the most challenging job of those above for me and my wife, even some dangers involved.

But, Hurray! Thank God and Hallelujah!

After some ordeals, some of them were circus or gymnastic level, we finished and left the space empty eventually.

Yes, little bit of scratch here and there on our arms and legs.

Skin deep scars can't hurt us but say we did a small jobs that given.

Finally Lost Key..

In the midst of demolition and removal as mentioned above, I lost my truck remote key in my back yard but couldn't find.

It bothers me because if we had new one, might cost us a couple of hundred or more dollars.

Not having extra key is too much stress for a man like me who is so much delicate.

So, I dreamt a few times finding the key in my sleep, but realized it can't be those places in my half-awakened mind later.

In the morning I went out to the back yard where I had searched around minimum several times the day before, found the key under some pieces of woods within a minutes as the key intensionally crawled in to there.

Seemed like that the useless dreams which might ruined my good sleep may not be that bad at all.

Now and Later

Our lives continue as He planed which we are ignorant of, but life goes on until His time which will our time; the regular routine.

Neither Success nor Failure, but Obedience Matters!

FBAR 처리

9월 초, 저는 지난 몇 년 동안 제 무지함으로 인해 제출하지 않았던, 매년 IRS에 FBAR(해외 은행 계좌 보고서)를 제출해야 한다는 사실을 알게 되었습니다.

(저는 한국에 선교 지원 목적으로 은행 계좌를 가지고 있었고, 아직 적용되지 않는 FATCA만 알고 있었습니다.)

너무 스트레스 받았지만, 결국 두어 전문가의 귀중한 도움을 받아 FBAR를 직접 처리했습니다.

도움을 주신 전문가들에게 진심으로 감사드립니다.

또한 지난 2년간 사용해 온 안정적인 인터넷 연결이 요즘에는 필수적이라는 것을 다시 한 번 실감합니다.

9월 중하순 뉴저지 나들이

가족들을 만나는 건 언제나 좋고 감사한 일이죠.

하지만 여행은 분명 스트레스가 됩니다.

집에서 탑승 게이트까지, 피닉스 스카이 하버 국제공항의 이스트 이코노미 장기 주차 공간에 픽업트럭을 주차하는 것도 포함하여 4시간 혹은 그 이상 걸렸습니다.

집으로 돌아오는 길에는 피닉스 지역의 한국 마켓과 코스트코에서 쇼핑을 했습니다.

자정 무렵 집에 도착해서 한 시간 동안 짐을 정리하고 새벽 2시에 잠이 들었습니다.

그리고 다음 날 금요일에는 마켓 사역을 했습니다.

위 여행 후 손님 맞이

다음 주 월요일에 소규모 방문객들이 찾아와 화요일 아침 출발할 때까지 함께 시간을 보냈습니다.

방문객을 맞이하는 것은 우리만의 허접한 일상에서 벗어나 우리의 공간과 우리 자신을 그들에게 보여줄 수 있을 만큼 청소하는 시간이기도 합니다.

우리는 대부분의 시간을 물리적으로 고립된 채 지내지만, 방문객들이 우리와 함께하기 위해 여기까지 시간과 물리적 존재로 내방할 때마다 우리는 그들과 항상 영적으로 연결되어 있다는 것을 재차 실감하게 됩니다.

저는 그들의 숙박과 제 필요를 위해 그들의 도움을 받아 위층 침대를 내려놓았습니다.

그리고 우리는 짧지만 즐거운 시간을 함께 보냈습니다.

손님 방문 후 방 정리하기

화요일 아침 손님이 떠난 후, 2번 방과 3번 방을 바꿨습니다.

아주 무거운 퀸 사이즈 침대와 2층 침대 세트를 분해하고 조립한 후 문을 통해 방과 방을 바꿔야 했습니다.

침대가 크고 무거워서 힘든 작업이었지만, 그만큼 작업 후에는 기분도 좋았습니다.

이제 각 방의 기능성은 그대로 유지하면서 제 서재 2번은 이전의 3번 방보다 더 넓어졌습니다.

의자와 금속 프레임 제거

다음 날 수요일, 우리는 버스를 이동 진료소로 개조하는 과정에서 버스에서 떼어냈던 의자와 금속 프레임을 그동안 무료로 사용하던 장로교회 공간에서 교인의 요청으로 모두 치웠습니다.

마을에 있는 투바시티 재활용 센터(쓰레기 처리장)를 무료로 이용할 수 있어서 큰 도움이 되었습니다.

(이곳에서는 일반 쓰레기뿐만 아니라 가구 등 대형 폐기물과 금속류도 무료로 수거합니다. 다른 지부(채프터)에서는 보통 쓰레기봉투 당 얼마간의 값을 지불합니다.)

이렇게 지역 사회에 봉사해 주시는 지부에 감사드립니다.

물론 힘든 노동이었지만 저와 아내는 평소처럼 해냈습니다.

육체노동 후 그동안 오락가락하던 정신적 스트레스는 이제 모두 사라졌습니다.

비영리 단체 연례 보고서 제출

10월 1일 수요일 오후, 저는 크리스천 라이프 사역(Christian Life Ministry)과 퍼스트 피플 유스 아카데미(First People Youth Academy)의 비영리 단체 연례 보고서를 애리조나 주 정부에 온라인으로 제출했습니다.

이 보고서는 주로 이사회 구성원과 임원 정보 보고인데, 특히 변경 사항이 없을 경우 이전 정보를 확인하는 단순한 절차입니다.

하지만 인터넷 연결이 안 되었을 때는 매우 어려웠습니다.

이와 비슷한 업무를 정부기관과 하려면 지역 비영리 단체 사무실에 가서 인터넷을 사용해야 했습니다.

이번에도 전화 상담원이 몇 가지 로그인 오류를 처리해 주었기 때문에 그다지 어렵지 않았습니다.

제때 제출해야 할 마감일을 잊지 않고 제때 제출하는 것은 저처럼 게으른 사람에게는 힘든 일일 수 있습니다.

하지만 여러 가지 일 속에서도 가까스로 제때 처리했습니다.

때로는 평범한 일이 잘못되면 더 이상 평범하지 않게 될 수도 있습니다.

교회 공간에 있는 물건들 뒷마당으로 옮기기

목요일에 장로교회 공간에 보관해 두었던 여러 가지 물건들을 제 뒷마당으로 옮겼습니다.

(20X20피트 크기의 뒷마당이 있는데, 예전에 탁구를 치곤했던 절반을 마루와 그늘막로 덮어 놓았거든요.)

어떤 물건을 남기고 버릴지 정리할 기회입니다.

지금은 지저분하지만, 앞으로 더 나은 미래를 위해 정리할 시간을 확보한 셈입니다.

탁구를 못 치는 건 필요한 시간에 공간을 활용해서 쓸 수 있는 것에 비하면 전혀 문제가 되지 않지요.

네, 이 문제도 정리됐습니다.

창고 구조물 분해 및 제거

월요일, 추석 명절에, 우리는 교회의 창고 공간을 분해했는데 여러 개의 2X3, 2X4 각목들, 그리고 8X12피트 공간의 두 면에서 1/2인치 4X8피트 압축합판 8개가 나왔습니다.

저와 아내에게 이 작업은 위에서 언급한 작업 중 가장 힘든 작업이었고, 때론 위험하기도 했습니다.

하지만 만세! 하나님께 감사드립니다. 할렐루야!

서커스나 체조 수준의 몇 가지 고난도 작업 끝에 우리는 결국 작업을 마치고 빈 공간을 남겨두었습니다.

네, 팔과 다리에 여기저기 작은 긁힌 자국이 있습니다.

피부 깊이의 흉터는 우리를 괴롭히지는 않지만, 우리가 작은 작업을 했다는 사실을 말해주는 듯합니다.

마침내 열쇠를 잃어버렸..

위에서 말씀드린 것처럼 철거 및 철거 작업 중에 뒷마당에서 트럭 리모컨 키를 잃어버렸는데 찾을 수가 없었습니다.

새 키를 주문하게 되면 수백 달러 이상 들었을지도 모른다는 생각에 마음이 아팠습니다.

여분의 키가 없다는 건 저처럼 예민한 사람에게는 너무 큰 스트레스입니다.

그래서인지 잠결에 꿈에서 열쇠를 찾는 꿈을 세 번이나 꿨는데, 나중에야 반쯤 깨어난 제 생각에 그런 곳에서는 찾을 수 없다는 생각이 들었습니다.

아침이 되어 이미 어제 몇 번은 뒤져본 뒷마당으로 나가서 다시 찾노라니 일부러 나무 조각들 사이로 기어들어 간 듯한 열쇠를 불과 일이 분 안에 찾고 말았습니다.

잠을 깨웠을지도 모르는 쓸데없는 간밤의 꿈이 그렇게 나쁘지만은 않은 것 같군요.

지금과 나중

우리의 삶은 우리가 알지 못하는 사이에 그분께서 계획하신 대로 계속되느니만치 그분의 시간, 곧 우리의 일상은 계속될 것입니다.
