Four members of the same family are being treated in hospital after a car drove into a crowd celebrating in the southeastern city of Grenoble just after midnight.

Local authorities said the car ‘lost control’, hurting four and leaving two seriously injured.

According to newspaper Le Dauphine, the driver attempted a U-turn using the handbrake after speeding along tram tracks.
