Businesses should hire employees for their entire lives. Do you agree or disagree? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
- This system can cause drastic decrease of business's efficiency.
- It is too much burden on companies to adapt to the fast changing economy.
The suggestion has been made that businesses should hire employees for their entire lives. I do not agree with this viewpoint because that the business’s efficiency would drastically decrease. Furthermore, lifetime employees would put too much of a strain on businesses that are already under constant pressure to keep up with a fast-paced economy.
First of all, hiring employees for their entire lives would greatly reduce the efficiency of both the company and its employees. With little or no risk of losing their jobs, employees tend to become lazy and the quality of their work output goes down. Also, the monotonous routine of the same job in the same company will discourage employees’ self-development, making them less competent.
Furthermore, lifetime employees would be too much of a burden on companies that are under pressure to adjust in order to survive the fast changing economy. A company may need to downsize through layoffs in order to avoid going bankrupt. Also, in order to stay competitive, businesses are in constant need of new, creative ideas and approaches to business, which new employees bring into the work field.
In conclusion, I do not believe it is a good or smart idea for businesses to hire employees for their entire lives. Promises of lifetime employment would decrease the motivation of employees and it would be unhealthy for the company. Furthermore, it would put far too much of a strain on businesses that must keep up with a fast-paced, continually fluctuating economy. The worst thing for a business to do is to stay stagnant, which would happen if they hired lifetime employees.
