맛있는 모닝단어- run after, take after, name after
1. run after : (붙잡으려고) ~을 뒤쫓다 (chase, follow) |
1. run after
To run after, of course, when we see the word 'after',
we know that there might be some delay or some behind that
the feeling of next. Well, to run is also a very busy action.
To run after someone, then, is to follow behind, taking care of them
and making sure you pick up after them and just following behind.
2. take after
Ah, to take after. Well, in this expression, unfortunately the word 'take'
really does mean much about putting something in your hand and
walking away. To take after really means to resemble.
Either in appearance or in character and style.
▶ take after 이 표현에서 불행히도 take는 어떤 것을 네 손에 넣고
3. name after
Ah, to name after. I remember this is a verb. So to name someone or
something is to give a name, too. Well we'll get the name.
Perhaps we know someone else with same name so we copy it.
Copy a name, name after.
RECAP
And I’m named after my father whose name is John. He is named after his father whose name is John. And he is named after his father whose name is John. So I think I’m named after my great-grandfather. It’s just succession of name. In fact, I do take after my father not only in appearance but also in character. He’s a very intelligent wise kind fantastic great and handsome guy. That’s why I take after him. And the truth is he’s busy too. He’s always done his best to run after me and I run after my kids too. It’s just the way we are.
*great-grandfather 증조부 *succession 연속, 잇따름, 승계, 계승 *not only A but also : A뿐만 아니라 B도 역시
