The efficiency of meditation and the adverse effects.
More than a decade ago, Time, a leading U.S. news magazine, published a cover story titled "The Science of Meditation," It dealt with the craze for meditation in the U.S., its scientific rationale, and its easy-to-follow meditation methods.
According to a study published by the researchers at the University of Winsconsin in the United States in the journal Psychotherapy, the energy of the brain waves during meditation is responsible for the brain's activity of strengthening immunity and controlling positive emotions. Depending on the emotional state of the human body, the immune system's response also changes, affecting our health.
According to the book "The Guide to Stress Reduction, in the meditation, the psychological state of the mind is changed and the energy of natural healing power is amplified. Western psychologists report that meditation practice corrects antisocial mentality.
But there have been no successive articles on meditation since then. I don't know the reason, but I guess the report on the adverse effect of meditation played a part.
The definition on meditation in dictionary is to close your eyes quietly like a quiet night and think deeply about a subject. Such meditation is doing meditation mentioned earlier.
Again, the difference between doing (Liu Yu有爲) and non-doing or doing by itself(Mu Yu無爲) is same as the difference between hypnosis and the Holy Spirit. hypnosis is the act of blurring the consciousness and following the words of the therapist. What is important is not performing the meditation but how to perform the meditation.
Meditation is said to relax the mind and to rest the soul. The word "soul" may mean something supernatural. Such a supernatural world may mean not only the comfort and peace of mind but also the devil enticing us with a black trap. Therefore it should be recognized that false meditation may have the adverse effect of mental disability.
As the old saying goes, "go for wool and come home shorn " I want to warn you that while trying to be healthy through meditation, your spirituality can be compromised. A professor has the eight-year yoga meditation "Who am I?" and a company staff has been devouring and meditating mental books for years. the scripture of the Anapanasati sutta(安般守意經).
When the Buddha was in Cammasit Damma, the capitol of Kurusu, in the old days, he preached how his attendants should observe his mind.
"I see this body with my heart's eyes.
When you breathe in and out long, you know it's long.
Take a short breath and know it's short.
When I go somewhere, I know I am going somewhere.
When you stay, you know how to stay.
When I sit down, I know I'm sitting down.
When you lie down, you see rightly you're lying down.
Try not to disperse out from the actions of this body.
And when you're having fun, you know you're having fun.
When you feel pain, you know it.
You also have to know that when you're not bothered or happy.“
In Buddhist scriptures Anapanasati sutta(安般守意經), there are a number of situations that can reach the transition of enlightenment through a way of seeing it with the mind's eye.
They argue that the method of breathing, which is a way of seeing numbers and breathing with the eyes of the mind, is a practice that the Buddha has learned.
In modern terms, the method of seeing with the eyes of the mind is only a form of concentration that is obtained by closely concentrating the consciousness with great precision. However, in the methodology of performance, the mobilization and utilization of consciousness are not recommended, because it might lead to the undesirable situation.
Similar to "Wifaxana," whose subject is how to see with the eyes of the mind, "The Zen question(話頭)" also sticks to the mobilization of consciousness. The beginning of the drama was introduced to the Song Dynasty after the collapse of the Tang Dynasty, and even the sixth great Buddhist ‘Hye Neung’ (the Song Dynasty) did not know it, and the frist great Buddhist ‘Darl Ma’ didn't have known.
It is certainly a matter of second thought that the learner blindly believes in and follows the Buddhist scripture.
A monk asked Hye Chung, state-approved monk teacher, "Isn't it the reason I left the house to become a monk is to want to become a Buddha? then how can I use my mind to become a Buddha soon?
Hye Chung said, "It is Buddha that has no mind.“
The monk asked again, "If you don't have mind, who becomes a Buddha?“
Hye Chung said "If there is no mind, then there is no Buddha, either.“
Hye Chung's answer is as follow. Only when he has no mind, can he become Buddha. Achieving enlightenment by not using the mind is doing by itself(無爲Muyu).
Numberal counting breathing method
The energy of nature (氣Chi) is the source of life. And it is the source of all the driving forces in universe. Meditation is the energy of happiness achieved through the concentration.
If you immerse yourself in the natural energy (氣Chi), which is the flow of nature, through meditation, you can achieve cleanliness to the soul as well as the health of the body.
Once considered as something non-scientific and a kind of shamanism just because it is not scientifically proven, the Oriental mystery is now recognized as 'science with infinite effect' and the West also marvels at it.
There are many ways we can get the energy of nature. Among the ways of meditation, India's Yoga, China's Gigong and Korea's Dantian breathing are popular meditation method among Westerners.
The fundamental principle of Chinese medicine is the cycle of Chi. The relationship between life and energy is so close. But do not play Chi performance in meditation. If you create a object called Chi, you cannot escape the limits of doing method. Moreover, Chi's performance must bring about a disability that is spiritual.
About 30 to 40 years ago, the Chi performance craze invaded Korea. I have also experienced the adverse reaction since I have been fully satisfied with my Chi's performance for 15 years. and I am fortunate to be able to talk about the spiritual disabilities and deaths of attendants of the Chi performances.
It's not that easy to concentrate your mind. It is impossible for anyone to stop thinking for a moment. a minimum of measures are needed to get out of the abyss of thought. Anyway, there should be a way to focus, but what about self hypnosis of "I can do it!" or what about self-hypnosis of Chinese Chi-performance?
Hypnotism, in particular, must be hex, whether self-hypnosis or others. “Not to ask or rely on or worship God.” This maxim is the roar of the lions of the Buddhist masters of the thousands of years.
If you use consciousness, it's doing method. But if you don't have it at all, you'll be a 'stupid spanking' or a stupid meditation. What is not the 'intentional' and the 'unintentional' meditation method? wouldn't Catholic arrowheads praying or Buddhist sorcery be all right?
The temple's term "flower red, willow green and fish spring up" is a warning of pieces of rising thought. The warning is that when you think of flowers, red comes to mind, blue comes to mind when you think of a willow tree, and a fluttering gesture comes to mind when you think of a fish.
In my experience, numbers and abdominal breathing are the only ways to concentrate your mind.
The respiration through which Buddha has gained enlightenment is famous as the wat of enlightenment. However, as a theory for theory, it is meaningless like a serpent's leg. Then, is there any unconscious abdominal breathing method that counts?
At first, you have to use consciousness to count. Focus on the mind, speculating about numbers and breathing. Firstly, leans comfortably, secondly, count your breaths from one to ten. Then come back to one and count to ten. you don't count eleven or twelve etc., because you has to put the numbers down in the future.
