The South Korean won fell sharply against the U.S. dollar Friday, dipping to its lowest level in more than five months, weighed down by uncertainties stemming from a government shutdown in the United States and ongoing tariff negotiations with Washington.
금요일 한국 원화는 미국 정부 셧다운과 미국과의 관세 협상 진행으로 인한 불확실성으로 인해 미국 달러 대비 급락하여 5개월 만에 최저 수준으로 떨어졌다.
 
The won was quoted at 1,421 against the greenback as of 3:30 p.m., down 21 won from the previous session. It marked the weakest level since April 30, when it also closed at 1,421 won.
오후 3시 30분 현재 원화는 전 세션보다 21원 하락한 1,421원에 거래되고 있다. 역시 1,421원으로 마감한 4월 30일 이후 가장 약한 수준이다.
 
The currency slipped past the psychologically important level of 1,400 won on Sept. 25 and extended its losses, as follow-up trade talks with the U.S. showed little progress.
환율은 9월 25일 심리적으로 중요한 수준인 1,400원을 넘어서며 하락세를 이어갔다. 이는 미국과의 후속 무역 협상이 별다른 진전을 보이지 않았기 때문이다.
 
In late July, Seoul pledged to invest $350 billion in the U.S. as part of a package deal related to President Donald Trump's new tariff scheme, but the two sides have yet to finalize details of the bilateral agreement.
7월 말, 한국은 도널드 트럼프 대통령의 새로운 관세 체계와 관련된 패키지 협상의 일환으로 미국에 3,500억 달러를 투자하겠다고 약속했지만, 양측은 아직 양자 협정의 세부 사항을 확정하지 못했다.
 
Trump has insisted that South Korea provide the investment funds "up front." Seoul says doing so without securing an unlimited currency swap line as a safeguard could trigger a financial crisis.
트럼프 대통령은 한국이 투자 자금을 "미리" 제공해야 한다고 주장해 왔다. 한국은 무제한 통화 스와프 라인을 확보하지 않으면 금융 위기가 촉발될 수 있다고 말한다.
 
In a meeting held earlier in the day, Bank of Korea's Deputy Gov. Ryoo Sang-dai said the central bank will closely monitor the market, citing lingering global risk factors, such as Washington's tariff policies, a prolonged U.S. government shutdown and concerns over the fiscal soundness of other economies.
이날 오전 열린 회의에서 류상대 한국은행 부총재는 미국의 관세 정책, 미국 정부의 장기적인 셧다운, 다른 경제의 재정 건전성 우려 등 글로벌 리스크 요인이 지속되고 있다며 중앙은행이 시장을 면밀히 모니터링할 것이라고 말했다.
