The Price of Cicada’s Song

Cicadas singing
The dog beneath the persimmon tree
Lifts his head so sleepily
And listens to their song with glee

Cicadas singing
A dragonfly rests on the line
Shakes off dreams in summer’s shine
And listens to their tune so fine

Cicadas singing
Soon-nam with a book in hand
Stops to hear the buzzing band
Their music ringing through the land

Shi-rong Shi-rong Maem-maem Maem-maem
Yichogang Yichogang
A skill that time has sharpened long
Cicadas' joyful singing

Everyone listens, hearts awake
For songs no coin on earth can make
The summer air is filled along
With cicadas’ joyful, endless song

감나무 아래 졸던

강아지가 졸다 말고 들어주네

매미가 노래하네

빨랫줄에 앉아 졸던

잠자리가 졸다 말고 들어주네

매미가 노래하네

대청마루에 책을 읽던

순남이가 책을 읽다 말고 들어주네

시이롱 시이롱 맴맴 맴맴 이초강 이초강

오래 닦은 그 솜씨

매미가 제 노래를 신나게 들려주네

모두가 열심히 들어주는 것

무엇과도 바꿀 수 없는 노래값
