참부모경 - 501. 한국종교협의회와 미국성직자연합 운동

통일교회는 1970년 4월 15일 한국종교협의회에 가입하면서 기성 종단들과 손잡고 종교연합운동에 나섰다. 참부모님께서는 초교파운동과 더불어 여러 종단들이 참여한 종교협의회 활동을 통해 종교를 중심한 내적인 통일 기반을 조성하고, 이를 승공운동을 통한 외적인 통일 기반으로 연결시킴으로써 국가와 세계적 통일의 기틀을 마련하고자 하셨다. 그리고 제2 이스라엘로서의 미국의 기독교 교파가 하나되지 않고서는 세계적인 종교권 통일을 이룰 수 없다고 보고 미국 기독교 성직자들의 규합을 위해 많은 정성을 기울이셨다. 특히 2000년 5월 기독교 성직자 120명을 중심으로 미국성직자지도자연합(ACLC)을 창설하여 미국 기독교가 초종교권을 통해 세계평화 실현에 앞장설 수 있도록 하셨다.
 
9 통일교회는 1970년 4월 15일을 기해서 한국종교협의회에 가입하였습니다. 여기에는 7대 종교가 가입해 있습니다. 이 과정에서 처음에는 3개 종파가 분열되었습니다. 그래도 우리는 반대하겠으면 반대하라는 식으로 쭉 끌고 나오다 보니 반대했던 종파들 전체가 돌아오게 되었습니다. 그래서 7대 종교와 인연을 맺게 되었고 통일교회는 여덟 번째로 들어가게 되었습니다. 우리는 이 협의회를 어떤 일이 있더라도 부각시켜서 이 협의회를 통해 대사회 활동을 전개해 나가야 됩니다.
 
10 우리가 종교협의회라든가 국제승공연합 활동을 하는 이유는 무엇이냐? 종교계에 제일 시급한 문제가 수많은 종단들이 하나되어야 하는 것이고, 나라에 제일 시급한 문제가 반공운동을 하는 것이기 때문입니다. 이 나라를 위해서 반공운동을 통일교회가 하고 있습니다. 이렇게 통일교회가 안팎으로 일하고 있다는 것은 대한민국뿐만 아니라 전 세계 인류도 인정하지 않을 수 없는 사실입니다. 종교를 중심삼은 통일운동도 우리가 할 것입니다. 물론 거기에는 여러 가지 어려움이 따를 것입니다. 물질적 손해와 인적 손해가 있을 것입니다. 그렇지만 우리는 그것을 각오하고 있습니다. 이것은 통일교회만을 위한 것이 아닙니다. 나라를 위한 것이요 세계를 위한 것입니다.
 
11 1970년에 한국종교협의회의 3대 목표를 정할 때 구국을 중심삼고 사상으로 하였습니다. 그 구국의 방향은 무엇이냐? 승공사상으로 무장하자는 것입니다. 그렇게 해서 공산당을 반대하고 싸워 이기자는 것입니다. 이렇게 하면 우리가 지금까지 한국종교협의회를 중심삼고 닦아 나오던 내적인 기반이 각 종단 종교인을 중심삼고 외적인 기반으로 닦아지는 것입니다. 결국은 국제승공연합 기반을 중심한 외적인 국가기준과 종교협의회를 중심한 내적인 교회기준이 서로 일치되면 안팎이 딱 들어맞게 됩니다. 그다음에는 수련을 시키면 사람이 불어나게 됩니다. 우리는 한국종교협의회를 중심삼고 세계적으로 발전해 나갈 것입니다. 지금 기독교가 부흥하는 것 이상 성장할 것입니다. 그래서 내가 지금 국제승공연합 활동을 중심삼고 외적인 활동을 하고, 내적으로는 한국종교협의회를 중심삼고 구국이라는 것을 가르치고 있습니다. 이것은 국민적 소원이요 민족적 숙원인 남북통일을 하자는 것입니다. 남북통일은 종교인들이 나서서 해야 됩니다.
 
12 1960년대는 개인으로 탕감할 때였지만 1970년대는 가정으로 탕감할 때입니다. 가정적 아벨을 세워야 할 때라는 것입니다. 그리하여 가정적 아벨을 중심삼고 종족적 아벨권을 만들려고 하니 가정적 가인권에 있는 기독교를 사랑하라는 것입니다. 그렇기 때문에 내가 남이 모르는 가운데 기독교를 위해 많은 돈을 쓰는 것입니다. 처자식을 먹이지 못하는 한이 있더라도, 통일교인들을 먹이지 못하고 고생시키는 한이 있더라도 그들을 사랑해야 되는 것입니다. 자기가 사랑하는 최고의 것을 주었다는 조건, 자기 생명까지라도 그들을 위해 주었다는 조건을 세우지 않고는 복귀가 안 되기 때문에 이런 일을 해 나오고 있습니다. 그래서 수많은 종교를 규합하여 한국종교협의회 활동을 주도하는 것입니다. 수많은 종교단체를 하나로 규합하려면 어떤 종교보다도 사랑했다는 입장에 서야 합니다. 자기의 제일 귀한 것을 제물 삼아서 줄 수 있는 입장에서 사랑해야 됩니다. 그렇게 사랑하면 천명에 의해 하나되는 것입니다. 끌려오게 되고 굴복하게 되는 것입니다.
 
13 우리는 뜻을 위해 전진해야지 후퇴나 정지를 할 수 없습니다. 전진을 위한 일시적인 정지는 있을 수 있고 정비하기 위한 정지는 있을 수 있지만 정지하기 위한 정지는 있을 수 없습니다. 통일교회는 전진해야 되겠다는 것입니다. 지금 기독교가 통일교회 때문에 죽겠다고 야단치고 있습니다. 그들에게 후퇴하라는 것이 아닙니다. 통일교회 때문에 기독교가 모두 자극을 받아 전진하라는 것입니다. 그런 의미에서 하나님과 기독교 앞에 공헌하고 있다고 자부하고 있습니다. 또 한국종교협의회가 통일교회를 가입시켰기 때문에 사회 문제가 벌어졌다고 하지만, 기독교는 나와 통일교회에 자극받았기 때문에 옛날의 종교보다도 새로운 종교로 전진할 수 있는 것입니다. 그런 의미에서 경제적인 소모는 있었지만 좋은 일을 하고 있다고 생각합니다.
 
14 통일교회는 한국종교협의회나 주간종교를 중심삼고 종교 최고 책임자들을 하나 만들기 위한 작전을 하고 있습니다. 그 풍토가 어느 정도 조성되면 모든 종교단체는 초종파적인 입장에서 종교의 원수인 공산세력의 위협으로부터 국가의 운명을 책임지는 사상적 터전이 될 수 있도록 해야 됩니다. 그러므로 우리가 종파를 초월하고 초종교적인 입장에서 반공자세를 어떻게 확립하느냐 하는 것이 무엇보다도 시급한 문제가 아닐 수 없습니다. 그래서 우리 개개인의 사명도 물론 중요하지만 전체를 책임진 입장에서 이러한 문제를 시급히 해결하지 않으면 안 되겠기에 초교파운동을 하면서 한국종교협의회까지 끌고 나왔고, 또한 그것을 중심삼고 주간종교까지 만들어 놓았습니다.
 
15 주간종교사는 통일교회 주간지를 만들기 위해 세운 것이 아니라 종교 주간지를 만들기 위해 세운 것입니다. 이에 관한 계획이 많습니다. 앞으로 무엇을 하려고 하느냐? 지금 종교계는 자기 종파가 아니면 안 된다고 독불장군 놀음을 하고 있습니다. 그래 가지고는 아무것도 안 됩니다. 휴전선 이북의 공산권과 대치하고 있는 우리 입장에서 볼 때에는 더욱 그러합니다. 신이 싫어하는 공산주의요 인류가 싫어하는 공산주의입니다. 종교인들끼리 합심하여 결판을 지어야 할 제3의 원수, 큰 원수가 남아 있습니다. 그것은 나라 안에 있는 원수보다 더 큰 원수입니다. 그러니 종교인들이 우선 합동작전을 해야 됩니다. 합동작전을 하기 위해서는 누군가 그러한 풍토를 만들어야 합니다.
 
16 서울에는 한국종교협의회에 속해 있는 종단들의 집회소가 많은데 어떻게든지 그 장소를 활용해서 그 종단들이 함께 모일 수 있는 체제를 만들려고 생각하고 있습니다. 그래서 내가 종협 창립 22주년 총회 때 그런 제의를 하였습니다. 그때 자기들이 후원한다고 했기 때문에 종협 의장이 본격적으로 추진하고 있습니다. 불교 포교소에서 기독교인들이 집회를 하고 기독교 집회소에서 스님들이 포교하는 교환 활동을 전개시키려고 합니다. 종교 전체가 연합해서 공산주의를 방어하고 무신론자들을 이끌어야 됩니다.
 
17 지금까지 역사시대에는 국가와 세계는 관계가 없었습니다. 이것이 제2차 세계대전 이후 1960년대를 중심삼고 냉전태세로 들어가면서 세계적인 각축전을 함으로써 블록이 형성되어 근세에 들어왔습니다. 옛날에는 자기 나라를 중심삼고 살면 되었지만 지금은 나라를 넘어서 세계와 더불어 살아야 되는 시대입니다. 이것은 나라를 다스리는 정치가들뿐만 아니라 종교계에서도 문제가 됩니다. 4대 성인으로 인해 세계적인 판도를 갖춘 종교권도 문제가 돼 있습니다. 종교도 자기 종파적 혹은 지역적 문화배경을 중심삼고 나아가서는 안 될 때가 왔기 때문에 종교 간에 화해를 해야 된다고 생각해서 나는 지금까지 수십 년 동안 초교파운동과 한국종교협의회 활동을 해왔습니다. 이제는 세계적으로 종교연합 체제를 구성할 수 있어야 됩니다.
 
18 예수님도 십자가에 돌아가시면서 원수를 사랑하라고 했습니다. 로마가 대원수였는데 사랑하라고 한 것입니다. 그 원수를 사랑하지 않고는 천국에 들어갈 수 없기 때문에 사랑하라는 말을 한 것입니다. 그렇게 함으로써 사탄의 함정을 벗어난 것입니다. 나에게 미국은 원수입니다. 그러나 원수를 갚는 것이 아니라 사랑하는 것입니다. 그래서 하나님은 맞고 빼앗아 옵니다. 그렇게 통일교회는 핍박을 받으면서 발전해 온 것입니다. 나는 망해 가는 미국을 구해주기 위해서 미국에 왔습니다. 그러니 사탄이 나를 참소할 아무런 조건을 갖지 못하는 것입니다. 내가 미국에서 미국자유협회(AFC)와 세계성직자회의(IOC), 통일신학대학원(UTS)을 만들었습니다. 이 미국을 사랑하기 때문에 만든 것입니다.
 
19 우리는 미국에서 교회의 십자가를 떼는 운동을 하고 있습니다. 연합교회를 중심삼고 교회의 십자가를 떼야 예수님이 이스라엘 나라의 구제주 이름으로 돌아갈 수 있는 길이 있습니다. 십자가를 떼면 연합교회로 안 갈 수 없습니다. 교파가 몽땅 십자가를 떼어 보십시오. 십자가를 떼고 연합교회의 간판을 붙이면 미국은 살아납니다.
 
20 미국의 44개 종단에서 중요 책임자 120명이 청평수련소에 가게 됩니다. 청평에 가서 통일적인 연합교회를 모색하는 것입니다. 하나의 교회를 만드는 것입니다. 하나의 교회를 만들면 미국을 살릴 수 있습니다. 분열된 교회를 가지고는 애국을 할 수 없습니다. 나라를 찾을 수 없다는 것입니다. 싸우기 때문에 하나되어야 합니다. 그래서 연합교회 형태를 만드는 것입니다. 이렇게 해서 통일교회의 가인 교회를 만드는 것입니다. 14만4천 교회를 만들기 위한 작전이 출발되는 것입니다.
 
21 미국의 50개 주를 어떻게 찾느냐? 이것을 위해서 120명의 주교급 이상이 한국에 가서 14만4천 연합교회를 만들기 위한 선언을 해놓고 와야 됩니다. 그러지 않고는 교파 싸움 때문에 가정도 잃어버리고 아들딸도 잃어버리고 사회도 잃어버린다는 것입니다. 전부 교파 싸움 때문에 망쳤습니다. 미국이 망하게 되면 교파 싸움 때문에 망했다고 보는 것입니다. 또 종교가 망하는 것이 종교 싸움 때문입니다. 교파 싸움과 종교 싸움 때문에 하나님의 섭리를 파괴시키고 사탄 앞에 재타락시킨 결과가 되었으니 이것을 깨뜨려 버려야 됩니다.
 
22 미국성직자지도자연합(ACLC)과 한국에 갔다 왔던 목사들의 열두 교파를 중심으로 연합해서 14만4천 교회를 만들게 되면 그 목사들을 중심삼고 정치와 교회가 합하여 미국을 구할 수 있습니다. 미국이 다시 살아날 수 있다는 것입니다. 미국이 그런 기반을 닦게 되면 다음으로 미국 기독교가 초종교권을 중심삼고 선도적인 입장에서 세계를 구해 줄 수 있는 준비를 하는 것입니다.

統一教会は、一九七〇年四月十五日、韓国宗教協議会に加入するとともに既成教団と手 を取り合って宗教連合運動に乗りり出した。真の父母様は、超教派運動とともに、多くの教団が参加する宗教協議会の活動を通して、宗教を中心とした内的統一 基盤を造成し、これを、勝共運動を通した外的統一基盤に連結させることにより、国家と世界的統一の土台を整えようとされたのである。また、第二イスラエル であるアメリカのキリスト教の教派が一つにならなければ、世界的な宗教圏の統一は成し遂げられないと考えられ、アメリカのキリスト教聖職者たちの糾合のた めに、多くの精誠を傾けられた。特い、二〇〇〇年五月、キスト教聖職者百二十人を中心に、「米国聖職者指導者会議(ACLC)」を創設し、アメリカのキリ スト教が超宗教圏を通して世界平和実現の先頭に立つようにされた。

9 統一教会は、一九七〇年四月十五日を期して、韓国宗教協議会に加入しました。ここには、七大宗教が加入しています。この過程で、初めは三つの宗派が分裂し ました。それでも私たちは、「反対するなら反対してみなさい」という姿勢を貫いていくと、反対していた宗派がすべて戻ってくるようになりました。そうし て、七大宗教と関係を結ぶようになり、統一教会は八番目として入ることになったのです。
私たちは、この協議会をどのようなことがあっても前面に立て、この協議会を通して対社会活動を展開していかなければなりません。

10 私たちが「宗教協議会」や「国際勝共連合」の活動をする理由とは何でしょうか。宗教界にとって最も緊急な問題が、数多くの教団が一つになることであり、国 にとって最も緊急な問題が、反共運動をすることだからです。この国のために、統一教会が反共運動をしています。
このように、統一教会が内外に活動しているというのは、大韓民国だけでなく、全世界の人類も認めざるを得ない事実です。宗教を中心とした統一運動 も、私たちがしていきます。もちろん、そこには様々な困難が伴うでしょう。物質的損害や人的損害があるでしょう。しかし、私たちはそれを覚悟しています。 これは、統一教会のためだけのことではありません。国のためにすることであり、世界のためにすることなのです。

11 一九七〇年に韓国宗教協議会の三大目標を定めるとき、救国を中心思想にしました。その救国の方向とは何でしょうか。勝共思想で武装しようというのです。そ のようにして、共産党に反対し、闘って勝とうというのです。このようにすれば、私たちが今まで韓国宗教協議会を中心として築いてきた内的な基盤が、各教団 の宗教者を中心に外的な基盤となっていくのです。
結局、「国際勝共連合」の基盤を中心とした外的な国家基準と、宗教協議会を中心とした内的な教会基準が互いに一致すれば、内外がぴったり合うように なります。その次には、修練をさせれば、人が増えるようになります。私たちは、韓国宗教協議会を中心として、世界的に発展していくでしょう。今、キリスト 教が復興している以上に成長するでしょう。
ですから、私は今、「国際勝共連合」の活動を中心として外的な活動を行い、内的には、韓国宗教協議会を中心として救国を教えているのです。これは国 民的な願いであり、民族的宿願である南北統一をしようということです。南北統一は、宗教者たちが立ち上がってしなければなりません。

12 一九六〇年代は、個人で蕩減する時でしたが、一九七〇年代は家庭で蕩減する時です。家庭的アベルを立てるべき時だというのです。そうして、家庭的アベルを 中心として氏族的アベル圏をつくろうとするので、家庭的カイン圏にある既成教会を愛しなさいというのです。
ですから、私は、他の人が知らないところで、キリスト教のためにたくさんのお金を使うのです。妻子に食べさせることができなくても、統一教会員たち を養えずに苦労させたとしても、彼らを愛さなければなりません。自分が愛する最高のものをすべて与えたという条件、自分の生命までも彼らのために与えたと いう条件を立てなければ復帰ができないので、このようなことをしてきているのです。
それで、数多くの宗教を糾合し、韓国宗教協議会の活動を主導するのです。数多くの宗教団体を一つに糾合しようとすれば、どんな宗教よりも愛したとい う立場に立たなければなりません。自分の最も貴いものを祭物にして与えることのできる立場で、愛さなければなりません。そのように愛すれば、天命によって 一つになるのです。引っ張られてくるようになるのであり、屈服するようになるのです。

13 私たちは、み旨のために前進しなければならないのであって、後退や停止をすることはできません。前進のための一時的な停止や整備するための停止はあり得ま すが、停止するための停止はあり得ません。統一教会は前進しなければならないというのです。
今、キリスト教が、統一教会のために大変なことになっていると大騒ぎしています。彼らに対して「後退せよ」と言っているのではありません。統一教会 によって、キリスト教がすべて刺激を受けて前進しなさいというのです。そのような意味で、神様とキリスト教に貢献していると自負しています。
また、韓国宗教協議会が統一教会を加入させたので、社会問題になったと言いますが、キリスト教は私と統一教会に刺激を受けたので、昔の宗教よりも、新たな宗教として前進することができるのです。
そのような意味で、経済的な消耗はありましたが、良いことをしていると考えているのです。

14 統一教会は、韓国宗教協議会や「週刊宗教」を中心として、宗教の最高責任者たちを一つにするための作戦を行っています。その風土がある程度造成されれば、 すべての宗教団体は超宗派的な立場で、宗教の怨讐である共産勢力の脅威から国家の運命(を守ること)に責任をもつ思想的基盤になり得るようにしなければな りません。
ですから、私たちが宗派を超越し、超宗教的な立場で反共の姿勢をどのように確立するかが、何よりも緊急な問題とならざるを得ないのです。
それゆえ、私たち個々人の使命ももちろん重要ですが、全体に責任をもった立場で、このような問題を急いで解決しなければならないので、超教派運動をしながら韓国宗教協議会まで導いてきたのであり、また、それを中心として「週刊宗教」までつくっておいたのです。

15 週刊宗教社は、統一教会の週刊紙を作るために設立したのではなく、宗教の週刊紙を作るために設立したのです。これに関するたくさんの計画があります。今後、何をしようとしているのでしょうか。
今、宗教界は、自分の宗派でなければならないと言って、「独不将軍（トクプルチャングン）」(何でも自分の考えどおりに一人 でする人)の振る舞いをしています。そのようにしていては、何もできません。休戦ラインで北の共産圏と対峙している韓国の立場から見れば、なおさらそうで す。神様が嫌う共産主義であり、人類が嫌う共産主義です。宗教者同士で心を合わせ、決着をつけなければならない第三の怨讐であり、大きな怨讐が残っていま す。それは、国内にいる怨讐より、さらに大きな怨讐です。
ですから、宗教者たちがまず合同作戦を行わなければなりません。合同作戦を行うためには、誰かがそのような風土をつくらなければならないのです。

16 ソウルには、韓国宗教協議会に属している教団の集会所がたくさんあるのですが、何としてでもその場所を活用して、それらの教団が一緒に集まることのできる 体制をつくろうと考えています。ですから、私が韓国宗教協議会の創立二十二周年の総会の際に、そのような提議をしました。その時、「自分たちが後援する」 と言ったので、韓国宗教協議会の議長が本格的に推進しています。仏教の布教所でキリスト教徒たちが集会をし、キリスト教の集会所で僧侶たちが布教する、交 換活動を展開させようと思います。宗教全体が連合して共産主義を防ぎ、無神論者たちを導かなければなりません。

17 今まで、歴史時代において、国家と世界は関係がありませんでした。これが第二次世界大戦以降、一九六〇年代を中心として冷戦体制に入って世界的な角逐戦をすることによりブロックが形成されて今の時代に入りました。
昔は、自分の国を中心として生きればよかったのですが、今は国を越え、世界と共に生きなければならない時代です。このことは、国を治める政治家だけでなく、宗教界でも問題になります。
四大聖人によって世界的な版図を備えた宗教圏でも、問題になっているのです。宗教も、自分の宗派的、あるいは地域的な文化背景を中心として進んでは いけない時代になったので、宗教間において和解をしなければならないと考え、私は今まで数十年間、超教派運動と韓国宗教協議会の活動をしてきました。今 や、世界的に宗教連合体制を構成することができなければなりません。

18 イエス様も、十字架で亡くなるとき怨讐を愛されました。ローマは大怨讐でしたが、彼らを愛されたのです。その怨讐を愛さなければ、天国に入ることができな いので、「愛しなさい」と言いました。そのようにすることによって、サタンの計略から抜け出したのです。私にとって、アメリカは怨讐です。しかし、あだを 討つのではなく、愛するのです。ですから、神様は打たれて奪ってきます。そのように、統一教会は迫害を受けながら、発展してきたのです。私は、滅びゆくア メリカを救うためにアメリカに来ました。ですから、サタンが私を讒訴する何の条件ももち得ないのです。私はアメリカで、「アメリカ自由協会(AFC)」と 「世界聖職者会議(ICC)」、「統一神学大学院(UTS)」をつくりました。このアメリカを愛するがゆえに、つくったのです。

19 私たちはアメリカで、教会の十字架を外す運動をしています。連合教会を中心として、教会の十字架を外してこそ、イエス様がイスラエルの国の救世主の名で帰 ることができる道があります。十字架を外せば、連合教会へと進まざるを得ません。教派が根こそぎ十字架を外してみてください。十字架を外して連合教会の看 板を付ければ、アメリカはよみがえるのです。

20 アメリカの四十四の教団から、重要責任者百二十人が清平修練所に行きます。清平に行って、統一的な連合教会を模索するのです。教会を一つにするのです。教会を一つにすれば、アメリカを生かすことができます。
分裂した教会では、国を愛することができません。国を探して立てることはできないというのです。争っているので、一つにならなければなりません。で すから、連合教会の形態をつくるのです。このようにして、統一教会のカイン教会をつくります。十四万四千の教会をつくるための作戦が出発するのです。

21 アメリカの五十州をどのように取り戻すのでしょうか。このために、司教(主教)クラス以上の百二十人の人々が韓国に行って、十四万四千の連合教会をつくる ための宣言をしてこなければなりません。そのようにしなければ、教派の争いゆえに、家庭も失い、息子、娘も失い、社会も失ってしまうというのです。すべ て、教派の争いのために台無しにしてしまいました。
アメリカが滅びるようになれば、教派の争いゆえに滅びたと考えるのです。また、宗教が滅びるのは、宗教の争いゆえです。教派の争いと宗教の争いゆえに、神様の摂理を破壊し、サタンの前に再堕落させた結果となったので、これを砕いてしまわなければなりません。

22 「米国聖職者指導者会議(ACLC)」と、韓国に行ってきた牧師たちの十二教派を中心に連合して、十四万四千の教会をつくれば、その牧師たちを中心として 政治と教会が一つになって、アメリカを救うことができます。アメリカが再びよみがえることができるというのです。アメリカがそのような基盤を築けば、次 は、アメリカのキリスト教が超宗教圏を中心として、先導的な立場で世界を救うことのできる準備をするのです。

Chambumo Gyeong - 501. Korea and America

On April 15, 1970, the Unification Church joined the Association of Religions in Korea, linking hands with Korea's established religious denominations. True Parents formed the International Religious Foundation (IRF) to create a united internal foundation with the interdenominational movement. By connecting this internal foundation to the united external foundation through the Victory Over Communism movement, True Parents began to prepare a united national and global foundation.

True Parents realized that if Christian denominations in America, the Second Israel, do not become one, the unification of religions worldwide will be impossible. Therefore, they devoted enormous effort to bring together American Christian clergymen, and established the American Clergy Leadership Conference (ACLC) in May, 2000. This is an ecumenical organization that creates a realm through which American Christianity can take the lead to realize world peace.

9 The Unification Church joined the Association of Religions in Korea on April 15, 1970. The seven leading religions of the world are members. At first, three Christian denominations opposed us strongly and pulled out from the council, motivated by their dogmatism. But eventually they all returned. We formed relationships with these seven great religions, and the Unification Church ended up joining the council as the eighth great faith tradition. We must participate in whatever social activities the council carries out. (031-082, 1970/04/19)

10 We are conducting activities through the Association of Religions in Korea and the International Federation for Victory Over Communism because the most urgent issue in the religious world is the need for all world religious groups to unite, and the most urgent issue in the nation is the need for anti-communist work. The Unification Church does anti-communist work not only for the sake of Korea, but for the world. All people should acknowledge that the Unification Church is working both in religion and society in this way. We will encounter many difficulties, including material loss and human suffering, but we are prepared for that. Our efforts are not just for the Unification Church, but for the nation and the world. 11 We are setting three objectives for the Association of Religions in Korea in the 1970s, making national salvation the central theme. What is the essence of national salvation? It is empowering ourselves with Victory Over Communism thought. We must stand up to the Communist Party, fight against them and win. If we do this, the internal foundation, which we prepared based on the Association of Religions in Korea, will complete an external foundation with members from every religious group. Ultimately, if the internal standard of the church, centered on the Association of Religions, and the external national standard, centered on the International Federation for Victory Over Communism, become one with each other, the internal and external will be in perfect alignment.

Next, as we train more people, our numbers will increase. Over time, we will develop globally in cooperation with the Association of Religions in Korea. Our growth will be far greater than the revival of Christianity currently taking place. At this time I am engaged in the external activities of the International Federation for Victory Over Communism, while internally I am teaching national salvation from the perspective of the Association of Religions in Korea. We must achieve the reunification of North and South Korea, which is our national hope and the peo-ples long-cherished desire. Religious leaders must stand up for the reunification of Korea. 12 The 1960s were a time to pay indemnity individually, lput the 1970s are the time we will pay indemnity as families. It means that this is the time when we must establish a family-level Abel. After that, once we establish the tribal-level Abel realm centering on the family-level Abel, we must love Christianity, which exists in the family-level Cain realm.

Most people do not know, but because of this I am spending a lot of money for the sake of Christianity. Even if I cannot feed my wife and children, and even if I cause the Unification Church members to suffer and cannot feed them, I must love Christianity. Restoration will not take place unless there are conditions of giving up that which I love the most. I am doing this work because restoration will not happen unless I am ready to give even my life.

We gathered together many religions and are leading the activities of the Association of Religions in Korea. If we are going to gather numerous religious groups into one, we must stand in the position where we love each of them more than anyone else loves them. We must love them from a position of giving our most precious things as offerings. If we love to that degree, we will become one based on God's Will. People will be drawn to us and will join in our work. (034-280, 1970/09/13)

13 Since we must advance for the sake of the Will, we are not able to halt or retreat. A temporary pause is possible for the sake of pushing ahead later, but we cannot halt permanently. The Unification Church has to advance. Christians are saying that we are impeding their work. But this is not to say we must back down before them. Because of the Unification Church, all Christians are being stimulated to advance. In this sense, I am confident that I am making a contribution to Christianity and to God's Will.

Of course, some people are saying that because the Association of Religions in Korea allowed the Unification Church to join, social problems have developed. However, because I and the Unification Church provide a stimulus to Christianity, it is able to advance more as a new religion than as a traditional faith. In this sense, although there was a cost to us economically, I think we are doing good work. (036-131, 1970/11/22)

14 The Unification Church is engaged in activities to bring the highest religious leaders into unity through the Association of Religions in Korea and the periodical, Weekly Religion. In creating a climate for this unity to develop, we must make an ideological foundation on which all the religious groups, from an ecumenical position, take responsibility to protect Korea from the threat of the communist powers, which are the enemy of religion. Therefore, there is nothing more urgent than establishing an anti-communist stance from an ecumenical position that transcends denomination. Of course, our individual missions are important, but we are taking responsibility for the whole. Thus, we have to solve the most difficult problems associated with this ecumenical work. Therefore, we are pulling even the Association of Religions in Korea along with us, and have created the Weekly Religion periodical. (046-127, 1971/08/13)

15 Weekly Religion was not established as a weekly magazine only about the Unification Church. It was created as a periodical about religion in general. I have many plans for it. Religious groups today are being self-righteous, saying there is no way to heaven except through their own denomination. If they keep doing that, nothing can be accomplished.

When we look from our current position, standing face to face with communist North Korea across the Demilitarized Zone, we need interreligious unity more than ever. We see in the North the communism that both God and all people deplore. Religious people need to cooperate in harmony with each other and deal with this larger enemy, the giant enemy that remains. North Korean communism is an enemy much bigger than any other faced by our nation. Therefore, religious people must work in a focused, concerted manner, and someone must create the climate in which this can happen. (045-275, 1971/07/04)

16 In Seoul, there are many places used for missionary work by groups belonging to the Association of Religions in Korea. I am thinking of creating a system to make practical use of those places. I made a proposal along these lines at the 22nd anniversary meeting of the founding of the Association of Religions in Korea. Because I asked for the organizations support, the chairman of the Association generously promoted it. They are going to develop exchange activities where Christians will assemble at Buddhist sites to do Buddhist missionary work. Also, Buddhist teachers will do Christian missionary work at Christian sites. After all religions coalesce, they must defend against communism and provide leadership and direction for atheists. 17 Down through history until recent times, there was no sense within any nation that its people are world citizens. However, after the Second World War, worldwide blocs of nations formed as the East and West squared off against each other in the Cold War. We entered the contemporary era through an intense worldwide contest. In past eras, it was sufficient to live with only a national or even local consciousness, but now is the age when one must go beyond the nation and live as a citizen of the world.

Nonetheless, tribalism has become a problem today, not only for political leaders, but also for religious leaders. The same problem plagued religions that were blessed to expand to the world level due to the pioneering work of the four great saints. The time has come when we must not advance while holding a regional, cultural consciousness or a narrow, denominational consciousness. Because I realized that we must bring about reconciliation between the religions, I have been conducting activities with the Association of Religions in Korea as an interfaith movement for many years. 18 Even as Jesus died on the cross, he said we must love our enemies. Rome was the great enemy of Israel in his day, but Jesus said you must love the Romans anyway. He knew that no one can enter the kingdom of heaven without loving their enemies. By doing so, he escaped Satan's trap.

America has declared itself to be my enemy. However, instead of seeking vengeance, I love America. When God allows Himself to be struck, He is then in a position to take back what is His. The Unification Church lives according to this principle, absorbing persecution and then developing and progressing. I came to America to save the country from perishing. Therefore, Satan has no condition to slander me. I created the American Freedom Coalition (AFC), the Interdenominational Conferences for Clergy (ICC), and the Unification Theological Seminary (UTS) in the United States. 19 We are carrying out a campaign in America that encourages Christian ministers to take down the cross in their churches. If we do that in the name of the American Clergy Leadership Conference, a path will open through which Jesus will be able to enter Israel as its Savior. We will be able to proceed as the ACLC. I am asking the Christian denominations to take down the cross. If we do that and hoist the banner of the American Clergy Leadership Conference, America will revive. (399-336, 2002/12/26)

20 To work toward creating the American Clergy Leadership Conference, 120 high-ranking leaders from 44 religious groups in America went to Cheongpyeong Training Center. We are creating one united body of Christ. If we make one body, we will be able to revive America. If we let the churches stay divided, we are not loving the nation. Fighting does not lead to oneness. We must become one, and so we are establishing this church association. By doing this, we will form a Cain-type body in relation to the Unification Church. We have initiated a strategy to create this association of 144,000. (322-190, 2000/05/11)

21 How will we redeem the 50 states of America? To do this, after the 120 religious leaders go to Korea, I must come and declare that I will create the American Clergy Leadership Conference of 144,000. If this is not done, denominational fighting will lead to the complete loss of the family, our sons and daughters, and all of society. Our sons and daughters will perish because religions are fighting. If America perishes, we will see that it did so because the Christian denominations were warring with each other. The conflict among Christian denominations and among religions has hindered the providence of God and repeated the Fall in front of Satan. We must end this disunity. (323-108, 2000/05/31)

22 If we establish an association consisting of 12 Christian denominations centering on the pastors who visited Korea with the American Clergy Leadership Conference, and then create an ecumenical assembly of 144,000 around those pastors, the politicians will be able to stand up for God-centered values and save America. If America prepares such a foundation, it will take a position of leadership transcending denomination and religion. If it accomplishes that, America will be able to save the world.
