Title: George Washington and his Hatchet
Summary
One day, a
father gave his son a hatchet. The son’s name is George Washington. The hatchet
was bright and shiny. George was happy when he chops many things.
One
day, George saw a small cherry tree in garden. He saw his father shopping trees
and that looked fun. So it did not take long time to chop down the small cherry
tree.
Soon
George’s father came to house and saw his cherry tree lying down on the ground.
George’s father was really angry because the cherry tree was very expensive. George
saw his father angry and he said “I cannot tell a lie. I chopped the tree down
with my hatchet.” Then his father forgot his anger and hugs his son. “George,”
he said, “I am happy that you told me the truth. I would rather lose a tree
than have you tell me a lie.”
Meditation
After
reading this book, at first, when George chops many things, I thought he is
very violent boy and I was wondering the reason why his father gave him a
hatchet. But when George told his father that he is the one who chopped the
cherry tree, I thought that George really loves his father a lot. Because if George
didn’t love his father, he will just ignore his father. I notice that George is
not violent but very honest.
Second, I knew the reason why his father
gave him a hatchet. I think it was part of God’s plan for George and his father
to be much closer than before.
Application
1.
I will always remember that I
always should tell the truth even though I might get some punishment from it.
2.
Like what George’s father has
done to his son, I should think first before I get angry and blame the others.
