아브라함의 부활 신앙

아브라함은 이삭을 드릴 때 하나님께서 그를 다시 살리실 수 있음을 믿었다고 합니다.(히11:19) 오늘 본문에 등장하는 아브라함 역시 자신의 몸과 사라의 몸이 죽은 것 같음을 알았다고 합니다. 숨을 쉬고 먹고 자고 살아 있지만 자녀를 얻을 만큼 충분히 젊지 않았습니다. 그러나 하나님은 죽은 태에서 생명을 일으키십니다. 이 경험을 통해 아브라함은 하나님께서 생명의 주관자이시며 무에서 유를 창조하심을 두 눈으로 분명히 보고 마음으로 믿었을 것으로 생각됩니다.

자신의 힘과 노력이 아닌 하나님의 은혜로 얻은 아들을 다시 돌려달라고 하실 때 아브라함은 언제든 원하시면 이삭을 다시 살리실 수 있음을 믿고 담대히 칼을 들었습니다. 살리고 죽이는 능력이 하나님께 있음을 그의 생애를 통해 경험했기에 주저함이나 두려움없이 순종할 수 있었을 것입니다.

21절에서 그는 확신하였다(being fully persuaded)고 합니다. 그는 그의 인생에서 반복된 경험을 통해 하나님의 전능하심과 사람 사랑하심을 잘 알고 있었습니다. 하나님의 신실하심을 자주 경험하면서 결코 약속을 무너뜨리거나 실망시키지 않는 분임을 납득하게 됩니다.

이것이 완벽하게 설득된 상태 곧 확신에 찬 마음입니다. 그래서 의심하지 않고 믿음이 견고해졌다(20절)고 합니다. 반복된 긍정적인 경험은 확신 가운데 서도록 마음을 굳건하게 해줍니다. 그리고 우리를 친구 삼아주신 그 분과의 친밀감은 결코 배신당하지 않는다는 의심없는 믿음을 선물합니다.

여기서 약속을 의심하고 실족하는 사람과 믿음이 견고해져서 영광돌리는 인생의 길이 나누어집니다. 광야에서 하나님의 수 많은 이적을 보고도 마음을 돌이켜 원망하고 불신하여 아버지의 마음을 슬프게 해드린 백성들과 대조가 됩니다. 얼마나 이적을 많이 보았는가가 아니라 하나님에 대한 깊은 신뢰와 애착관계가 인생의 미래를 결정짓는 중요한 포인트입니다.

바울은 23절에서 아브라함이 의롭다함 받은 것은 그 자신만을 위한 것이 아니라 후대의 독자들 곧 우리들을 위한 것임을 강조합니다. 아브라함의 믿음을 전수받아 믿음의 자손된 우리 역시 예수님의 죽으심과 다시 살아나심을 바라보며 하나님을 신뢰합니다.

아브라함과 이삭의 사건을 통해 우리는 죽은 것 같은 자리에서 생명이 꽃피는 기적을 보며, 아버지께 드려진 한 생명이 많은 열매를 맺으며 영광스런 부활의 아침을 맞이함을 보게 됩니다. 이삭이란 한 인격안에서 예수님의 탄생과 죽음과 부활을 바라보는 것입니다.

우리 역시 믿음으로 이 대열에 동참하게 됩니다. 만세 전부터 택함받아 이 세상에 태어나고 그리스도의 죽으심과 부활을 본받아 세상과 자신에 대하여 죽고 하나님께 대하여 다시 사는 우리는 어둠 가운데 비취는 한 줄기 빛과 같이 세상을 밝히는 하나님의 자녀들입니다.

Abraham’s Faith in the Resurrection

When Abraham offered Isaac, Scripture tells us that he believed God was able to raise him from the dead (Hebrews 11:19). In today’s passage, Abraham also acknowledged that his own body, as well as Sarah’s, was as good as dead. Though they still breathed, ate, and lived, they were far too old to bear children. Yet God brings forth life from a barren womb. Through this experience, Abraham came to see with his eyes and believe with his heart that God is the Lord of life, the One who creates something out of nothing.

When God asked for the son given not by human effort but by divine grace, Abraham lifted the knife in faith, convinced that God could restore Isaac to life whenever He willed. Having learned through his life that the power to give and to take away rests in God alone, he obeyed without hesitation or fear.

In verse 21, we read that Abraham was “fully persuaded.” Through repeated experiences, he came to know God’s almighty power and His steadfast love. Having so often witnessed God’s faithfulness, Abraham was persuaded that God never breaks His promises nor disappoints His people.

This is the state of perfect persuasion—a heart filled with conviction. Thus, without wavering, his faith grew strong (v.20). Repeated positive encounters with God gave him a firm foundation of assurance. And the intimacy of being called God’s friend gifted him with a faith unshadowed by suspicion, certain he would never be betrayed.

Here lies the dividing line between those who stumble in doubt and those who live lives that glorify God. It is the contrast between the wilderness generation—who witnessed countless miracles yet turned to grumbling and unbelief, grieving the Father’s heart—and those who, through deep trust and attachment to God, inherit the future He has prepared. The determining factor is not how many wonders one has seen, but how deeply one trusts and clings to God.

Paul emphasizes in verse 23 that Abraham’s righteousness was not written for him alone, but also for us. As heirs of Abraham’s faith, we too trust in God who raised Jesus from the dead.

Through the story of Abraham and Isaac, we see the miracle of life springing forth from places that seemed dead. We see that one life offered to the Father yields much fruit and leads to the glorious dawn of resurrection. In the person of Isaac, we catch a glimpse of Christ’s birth, death, and resurrection.

And by faith, we are called to join this same procession. Chosen before the foundation of the world, born into this life, conformed to Christ in His death and resurrection, we die to the world and to ourselves, and rise again to God. We are children of God—like a single ray of light shining in the darkness, brightening the world with His glory.
