Bible Reading - Proverbs 17:1~10

17:1 Better a dry crust(빵껍질) with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife.(갈등,문제)

갈등과 함께 풍성한 잔치가 있는 집보다 평화롭고 조용함이 함께하는 빵껍질이 더 낫다.

17:2 A wise servant will rule over a disgraceful son, 지혜로운 종은 부끄러운 아들을 다스릴 것이며

and will share the inheritance as one of the brothers. 형제들 중의 하나로 유산을 상속받을 것이다.

17:3 The crucible(도가니) for silver and the furnace for gold,

은을 위한 도가니와 금을 위한 용광로가 있으나

but the LORD tests the heart.

여호와께서는 마음을 시험하신다.

17:4 A wicked man listens to evil lips; 악한 자는 악한 입술에 귀를 기울인다.

a liar pays attention to a malicious tongue. 거짓말쟁이는 악독한 혀에 주의를 기울인다.

17:5 He who mocks the poor shows contempt(멸시, 경멸) for their Maker; 

가난한 자를 모욕하는 자는 그들의 창조주에 대해 멸시를 보여준다.

whoever gloats(자랑하다) over disaster will not go unpunished.

재난을 자랑하는 자는 벌을 받지 않을 수 없다.

17:6 Children's children are a crown to the aged, 자식의 자식은 노인의 면류관이고

and parents are the pride of their children. 부모는 자녀들의 자랑이다.

17:7 Arrogant lips are unsuited to a fool 교만한 입술은 어리석은 자에게 맞지 않다.

--how much worse lying lips to a ruler! 하물며 얼마나 통치자에게 거짓말하는 입술은 더 나쁜가!

17:8 A bribe is a charm to the one who gives it; 뇌물은 그것을 주는 사람에게 매력적이다.

wherever he turns, he succeeds. 그는 어디를 가든 성공한다.

17:9 He who covers over an offense promotes love, 허물을 덮어주는 자는 사랑을 증진하고,

but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.그런 일을 반복하는 자는 가까운 친구를 갈라놓는다.

17:10 A rebuke impresses(감동을 주다) a man of discernment(분별)

more than a hundred lashes(채찍질) a fool.

분별력 있는 사람에게는 꾸지람이 어리석은 사람에게 매 백 대를 때리는 것보다 더 큰 감동을 끼칩니다.
