Empty and Marvelous, Sramana (사문) 26-3

[眞如華]

     26-3.

     원효스님은 이어서 출가의 정의도 간단명료하게 내리고 있다. 세속을 그리워하지 않아야 출가인 이라고 할 수 있다고 하였다. 세속을 그리워한다는 말은 세속적인 모든 일을 그리워하여 미련을 갖거나 세속적인 일을 즐거워하여, 그것에 빠지고 집착한 나머지 그런 일들을 전업으로 삼으면 그것은 출가라고 할 수 없다는 것이다.

     Master Wonhyo is just as pithy about renunciation: only when one no longer misses anything of the secular world, one can be said to have truly renounced it. If one still has regrets over things one claims to have set aside, and still finds pleasure in and is attached to and fascinated with secular things to the point of spending their days indulging in them, one is not a renunciant.

                                    ; 이어서 출가의 정의도 간단명료하게 내리고 있다

                         only when one no longer misses

                                    ; 더 이상 그리워하지 않아야

                         anything of the secular world; 세속을

                         one can be said to have truly renounced it

                                    ; 출가인 이라고 할 수 있다고 하였다

                         If one still has regrets over things; 그리워하여 미련을 갖거나

                         one claims to have set aside; 세속적인 모든 일을

                         still finds pleasure in; 여전히 즐거움을 찾고

                         is attached to; 그것에 집착하고

                         fascinated with secular things; 세속적인 일에 빠지고

                         indulging in them; 탐닉하여

                         to the point of spending their days

                                    ; 그런 일들을 전업으로 삼으면

                         one is not a renunciant; 그는 출가인 이라고 할 수 없다
