악을 미워하는 자를 야훼께서 사랑하시고
당신을 믿는 자의 목숨을 지켜주시어
악인들의 손에서 건져주신다.

악은 불가사의한 실재요 실체다. 하느님의 선하신 세계 창조의 의지와, 사람들의 자유한 의지 사이에 있다. 악은, 하느님의 바라시는 바는 아니며 사람들의 선택과 의지에서 비롯된다. 사람의 몸과 정신을 통과하면서 구체화한다. 사람들 세계에 커다란 파장만을 불러일으키는 것만은 아미다. 일상의 사소한 틈을 비집고 오기도 한다.

하느님을 대체할 능력있는 신의 모습을 띠기도 한다. 더러는 '나' 또는 '자화상'의 모습으로 나타나 하느님의 사람들이 지녀야 할 참 모습을 왜곡한다. 많은 경우 물리력을 동원하여 사람들을 을러서 악은 제 의지를 관철시킨다. 더러 사람들에게 신박한 것들을 가져다 주는 것처럼 스스로를 드러내 보이며 그 마각을 숨긴다. 더러는 사람들의 문제를 해소해주는, 따뜻한 해결사의 모습을 띠기도 한다. 자극적이고 단말마적인 쾌감을 사람들에게 선사하기도 한다. 악을 사람들이 미워할 수만은 없는 까닭이다.  

그러나 악은 하느님의 존엄을 침해한다. 하느님의 위엄을 우습게 여긴다. 하느님이 내신 생명들을 파괴한다. 하느님의 정의와 평화를 해친다. 하느님의 사람들을 무지와 어둠 속에 머물게 한다.

하느님의 빛을 가리며 하느님이 역사 속에 개입하신 사건들을 사람들이 기억하지 못하게 한다.

야훼를 믿는다는 건 크고 작은 모든 악과,  악인들과 '나'란 주체가 불러오거나 생겨나게 하는 모든 악과 싸워가는 일일 것이다.  
 
Hate evil, you who love the Lord,
Who watches over the souls of His godly ones;
He saves them from the hand of the wicked.

Evil is a mysterious reality and entity. It exists between God's good will to create the world and the free will of humanity. Evil is not God's will, but arises from human choices and will. It materializes as it passes through the human body and mind. It rarely causes great ripples in the human world. It sometimes sneaks into the smallest cracks of everyday life. It sometimes takes the form of a powerful deity, capable of replacing God. Sometimes it appears as an "I" or a "self-portrait," distorting the true nature of God's people. In many cases, evil uses physical force to intimidate people to enforce its will. Sometimes it reveals itself as if it is offering new things to people, while concealing its true nature. Sometimes, they take on the appearance of a warm problem solver, solving people's problems. Others offer a stimulating and even agonizing pleasure. People cannot simply hate evil. However, evil violates God's dignity. It mocks His majesty. It destroys the lives God has given. It undermines God's justice and peace. It keeps God's people in ignorance and darkness. It obscures God's light and prevents people from remembering the events in which God intervened in history. To believe in Yahweh is to fight against all evil, great and small, against all evil brought about or created by wicked people and the subject of "me."
