From P270, minimum wage earners in the Cordillera will now receive a daily wage of P285, depending on their sector classification, through additional cost of living allowance (COLA) effective June 29 this year.
Wage order RB-CAR-17 dated May 14 states that workers in the non-agriculture and retail/service with 11 workers and above in Baguio, La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, and Tuba (BLIST) will receive additional P15 COLA to their current P270 daily pay for a total of P285 while other workers in the same sectors outside the BLIST will receive additional P10 COLA for a total of P265 daily pay.
Those in the agriculture and retail/service sectors with 10 workers and below in BLIST will receive a daily pay of P270 from the current P260 while those outside BLIST will get P255 from the current P245.
Wage Order RB-CAR-17 issued by the Cordillera Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board also stated that effective Jan. 1, 2016, the new daily basic minimum wage levels and structures will be P285 for workers in all industry sectors and within BLIST while P265 for other areas in the region after the integration of the COLA in the basic wage.
Also effective Jan. 1, 2016, microenterprise workers within BLIST will have daily wage of P270 while other areas in the region will have P255.
The wage order stated that all minimum wage earners in the Cordillera are covered regardless of their position, designation, or status and irrespective of the method of their wages are paid.
Not covered by Wage Order RB-CAR-17 are house helpers or domestic workers or persons employed in personal service of another including family drivers and workers in registered barangay micro business enterprises with certificate of authority.
Members of the RTWPB released the new wage order following public consultations in Ifugao and Mountain Province on March 24; Apayao and Kalinga on March 25; Abra on March 31; and Baguio and Benguet on April 7.
“It is the intent of the Board when it issued Wage Order 15 to attain a single floor wage level for the BLIST area and another for the other areas of the region after a certain period of time to enhance the economic welfare of the most vulnerable group of workers, who are the minimum wage earners,” the RTWPB said in the new wage order.
Records show that more than 90 percent or 16,870 of the 18,243 establishments in the Cordillera are in the microenterprises sector.
The RTWPB said there is a need to adjust the minimum wage rates of microenterprise workers since their minimum wage level is the lowest at P268 in BLIST and P247 in other areas of the Cordillera.
